If the conference is going to return to respectability It's important for UCLA to be a strong program along with the Huskies (I hate to print that).

Some may not like it, but if the conference is going to regain respectability it's important to have a significant number of teams have good seasons.

And I hate to see it printed, mrspenney, but you are correct.  Seattle represents the largest market in the North.

I just can’t see the Heiney-sniffers doing better than 3rd in the north, and 4th is more likely.

winning by 1 point in a slugfest is not as much fun as watching Oregon destroy Jamis Winston's Florida State team in the 2014-15 Rose Bowl.

Truer words are seldom spoken!  THAT was a fun game to watch!  The third quarter was absolutely EPIC!

Thanks David, for reminding me, I will watch it a couple more times waiting for late August.

I would suggest for a very Oregon Coast fishing experience that you find a charter in Pacific City on a dory. They launch off the beach on the leeward side of Cape Kiwanda.

As a guy who fished commercially off Cape Kiwanda in the late 70’s and early 80’s, I gotta agree with Jon here!

You will find no better experience than launching off the beach, limiting out with bottom fish and salmon, then riding the boat through the surf and onto the beach.  It’s about 3 hours north and west of Eugene, but we’ll worth the trip.

Welcome to our little slice of heaven!

  4. Fear No Team.  Respect is fine for the teams that earn it.

The undisciplined spoiled children deserve no more and no less than our complete and total attention the week they play The Ducks.

The butt sniffers to the north would deserve our pity if they weren’t such a pathetic bunch of sniveling curs.  As such, we should give them no more and no less than a monumental beat down every time they dare to step on the field with us.

  5. Great article Sir Charles, thank you for getting our juice flowing and our Ducks in a line!

OK,  many Duck fans think Chip was the greatest Duck coach of all time, and his W/L ratio speaks for itself.  Was he a salesman? CEO? Recruiter? Leader?  I think we’d be hard pressed to give CK an A in all of the above.

This is admittedly looking at the world through green and yellow glasses, but I don’t see DL as the next NS, but rather I see him as the guy who replaces NS as the GOAT of CFB.

  6. Brown might have been more formidable if his receivers were that wide-open that often.

In addition to having wide-open team-mates to throw at (I saw wide open guys have to make some wicked adjustments), Bo is good playmaker, and one I’d be happy with if he wins the job, but wouldn’t it be cool if he was the 2nd best QB on the team!

The bottom line is....whatever you can sell….

Meanwhile Oregon Track can certainly sell "tradition," and it should.

Tracktown USA definitely has a long and well earned tradition! And now they have brand new Crown Jewel to spruce up and freshen the tradition!

DL needs to use it to bring in some world class speedsters!

Charles, another terrific 'Lanning take.' Thank you.

I always had a disconnect with Mario. The players insisted that Mullens hire Mario but then, where was the love? The on-field play was bafflingly inconsistent for a group of guys who supposedly loved their coach and loved the 'family atmosphere.'

Ditto on the terrific Lanning take!

If my memory serves Jon, weren’t the leaders on the team that insisted on MC the same players who got to watch Helfrich run the Ferrari into the wall, then got to experience WT drive it off the road and into the mud?

To them, MC, with his promises to turn them into a Mack truck must have seemed like Nirvana!  No wonder they fell for it.

I am so looking forward to the Lanning Era!

  9. Our culture is simply “how we do things here.”  It is important for Dan’s or Dan’ players to buy in, support, and to a large degree, drive the culture.  At the end of the day, a team’s culture is what will keep them together or wedge them apart.

That is why it is important for the coach to get players to buy in to the culture he or she wants for the team.

Hayward nailed it with his post!

… and Charles, we who visit your site regularly appreciate what you have created and share with us.  A safe haven for Duck fans to learn more about OBD.

Well done sir, well done indeed.

  11. Mom grew up in Eugene/Springfield area and raised me to love green and yellow.  Loved the title of Tracktown USA and got to see Pre in action.

Was lucky enough to watch some great games in Autzen, starting with the win over BYU when Detmer got sacked by Marcus Woods for a safety right in front of me!

Back in the early 2000’s, I got to drive a quad pulling band equipment onto the field when the GPHS Marching Band played the halftime show, 4 years in a row.

These days I try to bring the Grandkids to at least one game each year.  Enjoy watching the Ducks play football, MBB, WBB, softball, baseball, Tumbling & Acrobatics, Track & Field, etc.

  12. I think we come out of the pre-season allowing 24-28 points per game while scoring 28-34 points per game.  Of course the first game will skew the numbers a little, but the is my (way too early) prediction for the pre-season.

We should hit full stride early in the regular season scoring 35-40 PPG while holding opponents to 17-21 PPG.  Holding the tail slappers and the butt sniffers to single digits will be the frosting on the cake!
