Should the Traitorus/Realistic 10 Decline NCAA Invites?
JB89 replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think you are probably kidding. But, No, it would not be great. I am enjoying this years MBB team very much and I am looking forward to them reaching the Big Dance. We seem to have a special group of players that are playing very well together. I will not hope for mediocracy just to keep money from the PAC2. -
I was giving examples of other heated rivalries were they do not relish in the success of their hated rival. I am disappointed so many Oregon fans can find joy in watching the Huskies have so much success. I agree that east coast bias is real. Washington winning a national championship will not change east coast bias. Washington winning a national championship will have an immediate negative impact on Oregon's ability to recruit against the Huskies. A Washington National Championship will bring bragging rights for many many years to the Huskies. I am not willing to cheer for Washington Husky success to try and piggy back on their success. I want Oregon to be the best team on the west coast and in the nation. I am willing to wait for OBD to earn a national championship on their own. In my opinion Washington success does not help Oregon attain their goals. There is no way of knowing, if Oregon would have made the four team playoff this year with a win in the Pac12 Championship game. It's fine to state an opinion but it is not a fact. Oregon could have absolutely made the playoffs, if they had finally beaten the huskies in the PAC12 Championship game. If OBD had been kept out the playoffs, pro SEC bias not anti west coast bias would have been the reason. ESPN and pro SEC bias is the reason FSU was kept out of the playoffs and it why Penix did not win the Heisman. ESPN controls the SEC bias and Washington winning on Monday night will not change it. The move to the B1G greatly reduces the chance of west coast bias keeping the west coast teams out of the expanded playoffs. We are now part of the two chosen conferences. We do not need a Washington National Championship for Oregon to achieve their goals. Thus, why in the heck would any duck fan want to see their hated rival win a national championship? GO DUCKS, Go Michigan

OBD football use to be worse than what OSU and WSU are currently. I have been a Duck fan long enough, 50+ years, that I can remember opening up the local newspaper and seeing OBD being in the Bottom 10 rankings along with Oregon State every week. My State of Oregon pride would cause me to root for any win by Oregon or Oregon State. I have entered Autzen Stadium to see both endzones covered in purple. It was sickening to see that much purple inside Autzen and their disrespect towards Oregon made it even worse. I was at the Seattle Bowl and witnessed Husky fans confronting the Ngata family prior to the opening kick off. Yes, husky fans paid for tickets just to be able to talk crap to Duck fans. During the great Jody Runge era the Husky coach couldn't beat the Ducks on the court so she falsely accused Duck fans of spitting on her throughout the game. These are some of the reasons I will never hope for Husky success. Some Duck fans are willing to forgive and forget but not me. GO DUCKS, Go Michigan

Obviously, you are free to root for any team you like. But, I completely disagree with your theory that Washington success helps Oregon. The east coast people do not equate Washington wins to mean Oregon is good. They do not spend any energy or time thinking about such things. Thus, the only thing that helps Oregon is for Oregon to beat Washington, Ohio State and Michigan. Our ability to be the best program in the west and nation is not helped by having the Huskies win a national title. Do you not realize that winning a national title makes Washington the best team on the west coast and the nation. This is exactly what OBD is striving to accomplish. I will not root for the Huskies to accomplish our goals just because some duck fans feel better if we loose to the eventual national champions. My dislike of the Huskies did not occur overnight. The Huskies have earned my dislike of them over the past five decades of their arrogance towards all things Oregon. Maybe you and other duck fans can ignore the arrogance and hatred that the majority of Washington fans have for Oregon but I cannot. I will be cheering for Michigan to destroy that hated team from the north. Do you think Auburn fans cheer for an Alabama national title? Will Ohio State be cheering for Michigan? Did South Carolina fans feel like the football world gave them credit when Clemson won their national titles? I am a Duck fan that refuses to live vicariously thru the success of the Washington Husky football program. GO DUCKS and on Monday night Go Michigan!

I respect Deboer and this years Husky team but I hope Michigan stomps on them and gets a blowout victory. No, I do not want to be battling the Huskies every year. I want OBD to not only be the dominant team on the west coast but in the B1G and nation. Husky success does nothing to help Oregon. Continued Husky success will start to hurt OBD in recruiting west coast talent. My two favorite teams are Oregon and whoever is playing Washington. Go Michigan.

Sugar Bowl Thread: Washington vs. Texas
JB89 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Texas fans must be pissed at those final 4 plays. The last play has to be catchable in the endzone. I was so excited to think that the Husky fans were going to have a gut wrenching last second loss but it wasn't meant to be. Oh well. Go Michigan! -
Confirmed: Jim Leavitt Does Not Like Mario
JB89 replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Who is Coach Mastro calling a clown? I'm no expert on the platform X formerly known as Twitter. My thought is he is calling Leavitt a clown. If he agreed with the Leavitt post would he not post a or . A friend asked me and I'm not sure. Maybe Mastro thinks both are clowns. -

Wow, fire one third of OBD athletic staff. This is one life long Duck fan and proud Alumnus that strongly disagrees with that idea. I understand that Rob is evidently fair game but to attack the hard working members of the Oregon athletic department seems wrong to me. These people have helped to make Oregon one of the nations premier athletic programs. Firing one third of the staff would not only have a negative impact on OBD but would also be devasting for the employees and their families.

With the CFB Playoffs expanding to twelve teams, OBD should not play thirteen regular season games in 2024. Oregon's goal is to play in the B1G Championship game and then in the expanded playoffs. It will be difficult to stay healthy for those late season games even without the extra game in Hawaii. Having an experienced QB in Gabriel, is another reason why OBD should only play three non conference games in 2024. If OBD was starting a young QB then it could be argued that the risks of an extra game could be offset by the game experience that the young QB would gain by playing. Considering the late season goals of OBD, I have been worried about the short and long term additional injury risks associated with playing the game in Hawaii. I will be pleased if the game is removed from OBD 2024 schedule. I do feel bad for the Duck fans that have been planning on attending the game.

What If...the Huskies Make Oregon Look GOOD?
JB89 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oregon can look good by beating Liberty. I never want to ride the coat tails of the Washington Huskies. If Oregon needs to rely on the Huskies winning a game to make OBD look better then that is just pitiful. The thought of the Huskies winning any game is a disgusting idea to me. I did not want to see an undefeated Husky team in the PAC12 Championship game because I did not want the Huskies in the playoffs. I absolutely do not want the Huskies to win a national championship. Do you really think that the Huskies want Oregon to have any success? I hope Texas destroys them. In the early 90's my friends and I had sweatshirts made that said 'My two favorite teams are Oregon and whoever is playing Washington" We wore the sweatshirts to the Oregon game at Husky Stadium. Thirty plus years later and I still feel the same way. -

Yes, we want him because Coach Lanning has decided to recruit him. No, do not boo Oregon players. For a die hard duck fan these are pretty easy answers.

I fully understand the benefits of the move to the B1G. Oregon will be a Junior Partner for 6 years since the current contract expires after the 2029-30 season. Six years is a long time. The $30 million plus discounted rate versus value over six years is at least $180 million that FOX will get to pocket in those six years. Same thing is happening to Washington. The combined $360 million was a big reason for FOX to not offer the PAC12 their true market value. OSU and WSU are trying to save the PAC12 and make their situation as good as possible. I will not get upset with them for doing what is best for their two universities. Just like, I do not think they should be upset with OBD for doing what was best for Oregon when we left for the B1G. In negotiations, I would think you get more money when you have the upper hand. You do not win by giving up your advantage.
-
Doesn't the litigation help to strengthen their negotiating position? Why would they drop something that helps them? The so called market placed is also costing Oregon tens of millions of dollars every year due to FOX taking advantage of Oregon's situation and only offering a 50% share. It is obvious that OBD brings much more benefit than the 50% share that FOX is paying.

The conference has not dissolved. Oregon and the other departing universities could have worked together to dissolve the conference before leaving but they chose not to. The ten remaining universities took away the voting rights of USC and UCLA when they gave notice of departure. Thus, Oregon had to know that their voting rights would be gone once they told the conference of their decision to leave for the B1G.
-
Sorry, but I cannot get upset about this whole situation. When USC and UCLA left for the B1G, the remaining ten teams told USC and UCLA that they had lost their voting rights. At that time, I agreed with that decision by the ten remaining teams. Once eight of the remaining ten teams decided to leave that left the PAC2. I like to stay consistent in my belief of what is right and wrong. Thus, I believe that OSU and WSU deserve to control the PAC2. I'm not going to change my opinion of what is right just because it would help OBD. The courts will decide on how the money will be dispersed. The court decision can take months or even years, so I will continue to enjoy OBD without worrying about the courts future decisions. OSU and WSU are doing exactly what any other university would do given their circumstances. Thus, I hold no ill will towards the Beavers in this matter. I am looking forward to the Civil War games in all sports. I appreciate this forum for allowing the posting of opposing opinions. Go Ducks!

Schedule Adjustments Include Home-and-Home With OSU
JB89 replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
As a season ticket holder there are several things that I like about the changes. 1- 7 home games in both 2024 and 2025 instead of 8 in 2024 and 6 in 2025. 2- Getting rid of the road game at Boise State in 2025 and replacing it with a home game. Also the series with Boise State will only be two home games and no return trip to Boise. 3- Keeping the Civil War alive for the next two years. I enjoy the Civil War and look forward to the next two years. I also think it was smart to only schedule it for two years. This gives both schools time to decide if it is in the best interest of both schools to continue the game even longer. Nice work by Rob Mullens to get this put together for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. -
Ducks WBB: ‘Is the System Blinking Red?’
JB89 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm with those of you that think it is time for a coaching change for our WBB team. I agree that the loss of Coach Campbell was huge. I expected this type of season once Pao Pao, Rodgers and Prince decided to transfer and Graves could not find players of equal talent in the portal. When Graves announced his non league schedule, I knew my concerns where valid. Even with this weak non conference schedule, Oregon has had two embarrassing losses. With Campbell, Oregon recruited 5 stars from around the nation. I'm sure those players are now asked by recruits why they transferred. Watching multiple elite players accomplish more with their talent after transferring from Oregon is a bad look for Graves. The failure to keep top recruits seems to be leading to the decline in recruiting and now with the play on the court. Has Graves lost some of the needed desire to coach since the covid shorten year that kept him from winning a National Championship? It sure feels that way to this fan of our WBB program. As fans we need to be prepared for multiple blow out losses this year in Pac12 games. UCLA, USC, Colorado, Stanford and Utah are all in the top 11 in the polls. The decline of the Oregon program has not occurred overnight. It has gotten worse each year since Sabina graduated. With the type of losses that Oregon will have this year, I fully expect our remaining top players to transfer out of the program. Since this has been a multiple year decline, I think a coaching change is needed to bring new life to the program. Mark Campbell should be on the short list of coaches to replace Graves but with Oregon's resources I think we should also approach coaches with a proven ability to win in the NCAA tournament. I hate to post negative things about any Oregon program but I just do not see Coach Graves being able to reverse the decline in the program. Hopefully I am wrong and the WBB team surprises me during the Pac12 season.
