I'm not sure what you are expecting from Gabriel? I think it is very obvious that Gabriel is a proven veteran QB that greatly improved our QB situation. Our odds of competing for a B1G title have increased substantially with his addition to the team. I'm thrilled to have him join the Ducks and look forward to watching Gabriel lead OBD next fall.

The NCAA Faces Reality from the Wall Street Journal
JB89 replied to Santa Rosa Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I was able to read the article for free. Thanks for the link. -
I use to dislike the idea of getting a player with only one year of eligibility but the world of college football has changed. I now prefer that Oregon get the most talented players available each year. Even if it is only for one year. Fortunately, Oregon is attractive to elite players like Gabriel. I have confidence in Lanning's ability to determine if he needs to recruit someone for one year or promote from within. Without Gabriel we would enter our first year in the B1G with an unproven QB. With Gabriel we have an elite QB for our very important first season in the B1G.

Yes, I trust Rob Mullens to make good scheduling decisions going forward. I fully agree with his decision to keep the tradition of the Civil War. Rob is looking at the long term best interest of the Oregon program. Giving up one home game out of eight in 2024 is not important when looking long term. Having the Civil War game in Corvallis in the years that we play five B1G home games and then playing in Eugene when we only have four B1G home games is very smart. The game in Corvallis gives us a game with very little travel which offsets the longer distance most of the B1G away games require. I appreciate that Rob is not letting his emotions rule his actions in regards to the pending litigation regarding revenue distribution. I'm sure Rob realizes that since neither side will get everything they want why let the litigation stop us from scheduling Civil War football, basketball, softball, and volleyball games. I also like scheduling the Civil War game in September. This keeps the bye week prior to the Washington game. I am looking forward to seeing what our schedule will look like beyond 2028.

According to John Canzano, Texas Tech will play Washington State instead of Oregon. Boise State agreed to play us a week earlier and Oregon State will play us the week originally scheduled for BSU.

Bitter Beaver: Oregon is to Blame for Oregon State's Decline
JB89 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I will disagree with most of the people posting and say great work Rob Mullens. Preserving the Civil War is important to many Oregonians. While some fans of both teams do not want to keep the Civil War, I believe the majority of fans and residents of Oregon will enjoy the continuation of the game. If too many blowouts occur then the two universities can always cancel the series in the future. Rob was smart to get us a recurring road game for the years we have five B1G home games and a guaranteed home game for the years with only 4 B1G home games. With all the travel being required for the B1G it was smart to get a road game that is only 40 miles away. This decision also eliminated a game with the Big 12 that some on this board have advocated for him to accomplish. Hopefully, Rob continues to do what is beneficial for the University of Oregon and the State of Oregon. -

Annie, The Civil War game is replacing our game with Texas Tech. 13 regular season games but only 7 home games. -
Season tickets would be my choice. With the projected renewal of the Civil War being in Corvallis next year count on only 7 home games not the originally proposed 8 home games There are plenty of good seats in Autzen that do not require a donation. Several years ago I got tired of paying the donation and moved closer to the endzone. The games are just as exciting and enjoyable in the cheaper seats. The only thing I miss are the people that I sat next to for 15 years. It was always fun to see them each football season.

In my opinion, Oregon must match the type of schedules that teams like Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia and Texas are playing. These are the teams we want to be compared with nationally. Most of those team are scheduling 2-3 cupcakes every year and playing one tough non conference game. B1G playing 2 cupcakes while SEC teams play 3 cupcakes due to their 8 game league schedule. Now that we are in the B1G and playing Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State we can get a playoff spot without playing an SEC team in the non league. We just need to be ranked high enough to be able to play the SEC in the playoffs. For the next few years we need to keep our home and home games with Oklahoma State and Baylor and then play 2 easier games. Before doing research, I thought we should get rid of the Big 12 games and replace them with cupcakes but Michigan and Ohio State are playing teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia in the near future. It is probably too late to play that tough of an opponent in the next 4-5 years but we should not schedule 3 cupcakes. By playing the Big12 teams and possibly Oregon State that could help offset the big non conference games that Michigan and Ohio State are playing. It also helps that we get an opportunity to beat Michigan and Ohio State in league games or in a B1G championship game thus benefitting from them playing and beating a SEC team in non league. Short term (2024-2028) there is probably not a lot that the Ducks can change with their schedules but I'm curious to see what teams we schedule for 2029 and beyond. While I'm disappointed in the match up, I would think every Duck fan would be eager to watch this game for the reasons you listed. I know I am.
-
In my opinion this is the perfect response by a Duck fan. If I lived within a 3 hour drive I would be thrilled and eager to attend this game. I enjoy attending any football game that involves OBD. I drove the 18 hours to watch Joey destroy Colorado in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl but this year I will watch the game at home.
-
Now that is something my fingers could never type.
-
Still watching the games today. Not with the same interest. Now I'm hoping all the undefeated teams win. Four undefeated teams in the playoffs would be very interesting. I'm very curious what bowl we play in and who we play. Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, FSU would all be great opponents. Fortunately we have a coach like Dan Lanning, who has given us a team/program worthy of playing for conference championships and in NY6 bowl games.

Very frustrating that a site that is suppose to be pro Duck would even mistakenly post something like this. It seems like the writers would have better things to do today. Don't they realize the biggest game of the year is about to kick off in a few hours? The above statement didn't seem like an apology just asking for understanding. Sorry but this Duck fan does not understand. The Ducks do not need this type of distraction today. Being the first to report should not come before accuracy. Even if accurate wouldn't a pro Duck site hold off until after the game? GO DUCKS. Beat the huskies

The Pac-2 is Ruse, a Sham That Makes NO SENSE
JB89 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I would argue that the Pac-2 is not a ruse, it is not a sham and it makes perfect sense for OSU and WSU. They are following the NCAA rules which allow them to keep the conference alive for two years. The Mountain West TV contract expires in 2026. I hope they use the two years wisely and keep the conference alive. If Oregon had been left behind we would be doing the same thing. https://www.si.com/college/2023/11/19/oregon-state-washington-state-ncaa-confirmation-pac-2-plan-report -
The Pac-2 is Ruse, a Sham That Makes NO SENSE
JB89 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It does not look like the Pac2 would receive an automatic spot in the playoffs. This is a long article but it does a good job of explaining the possibilities for the Pac2. How a new 'alliance' proposal involving Washington State, Oregon State could impact College Football Playoff SPORTS.YAHOO.COM For OSU and WSU, the clock is ticking in a variety of ways. But there may be a lifeline on the table. -
Oregon should look at portal QB's but Shough should not be one of them. His injury history would be my biggest concern. Cam Ward would be a good fit but he would need to be a graduate transfer since he already transferred to WSU. Like some others have stated, I will put my trust in Dan Lanning and the other coaches to do what is needed.
-
I think Oregon did what they had to do when we left for the Big10 conference. Now OSU and WSU are doing what they need to do to have the best chance of surviving the beak up of the PAC-12. The ten schools that left are doing what they need to do to get as much money as possible from the PAC-12. I do not blame either side for looking out for their best interest. The courts will decide how much money each school will receive and neither side will get everything that they want. As a native Oregonian and lifelong Duck fan, I hope the Civil War football game continues to be played every year. The Civil War is good for the State of Oregon. I am glad that both the men's and women's basketball teams plan on playing each year. I am positive that the baseball, softball and volleyball teams will continue as well.

Jedd Fisch may not be interested in the Michigan State job but with the financial issues at Arizona a raise may not be possible. A pretty good reason to look for a new employer. Oregon 70-7 3 3 350 -
Should Oregon wait until the end of the season? I would like to see Oregon open talks now. Lanning is a top 10 type coach. If we want to keep him it is time to pay him top 10 money. This would send a message to recruits and all of college football that Dan Lanning will be the coach at Oregon for a very long time.
-
Another reason no one is mentioning Smart and Sabin is because they are the two highest paid coaches in college football. Both are over $10 million a year. Lanning is 21st at $6.6 million this year. The only way for Oregon to stop the yearly rumors is to offer Lanning an 8-10 year contract at $10 million a year. This is the type of contract that the top 10 coaches are getting. If that is too much money for Oregon then we will need to get use to this yearly annoyance.
