  1. Yes, he should have made the kick, but it's a lot of pressure, and a 42 yd kick isn't a chip shot. Lanning went on 4th down twice instead of a field goal, and again with under two minutes. If just one of the three were successful ,we'd be having a different conversation. Don't know why he didn't punt at the end of the game, other than they couldn't stop UW, and they wanted to be the offense controlling the end of the game.
  2. The big screen TV will be warmed up, ready to go, my cushy recliner as well. The garage beer frig is on extra cold, and a large assortment of central Oregon craft IPAs are chilling and waiting. Didn't invite friends over,as I'll just need to be left alone so I can concentrate on the game ( and the beer). It's a great football weekend, starting with last nights game, and there are killer Pac 12 games through the day. If I can just get through our game, the rest of the games will be very relaxing.
  3. I'm with you, if they're good enough, take the sure thing. My concern for next year, as I'm sure is most fans, is who will we have for a quaterback. It seems like all the good teams have great quarterback play anymore. Will either present backups be good enough, will the two new recruits be the answer, or will Lanning again dip into the transfer portal for a proven high end player like he did with Nix.? We have all the pieces for next year, except the uncertainty of the most important position, the QB. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the right person was in the portal, Lanning would grab him.
  4. Dan Lanning celebrates with Oregon fans after beating Stanford SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Dan Lanning ran across the field after Oregon beat Stanford so he could celebrate with Ducks fans who made the trip. I thought this was so cool after the Stanford game. After the coaches handshake and greeting Stanford's players, DL ran over to the Oregon fan section and was shown on tv high fiving and interacting with the Oregon fans that had made the trip. Not sure I've ever seen that before. He certainly knows PR.
  5. Still, there is income coming into the Pac12 this year while all 12 teams are still members. Not all the assets are deferred past the time these teams leave. While I see the reasons these 10 schools shouldn't be allowed to vote regarding the future of the Pac 12, and use of deferred assets and income, it still seems wrong to withhold present income while all 12 teams are still members.
  6. The 10 teams may not have voting rights, but shouldn't they still get Pac 12 incentives, pac 12 network revenues, basketball tourney receipts, etc. up until the time they actually give up their membership? They shouldn't be allowed to make determinations of Pac 12 future, or get future earnings, but I would think they should get their income share until they leave.
  7. If the Big does ultimately swoop in and grab Stanford and Cal, it would obviously be a big advantage for Oregon. Not just because there would be a western pod of teams so a little less travel, but also because we would likely play them on a regular basis, and Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and maybe even UW are likely weaker teams than many of the Big teams. That might be a real advantage, especially since UO has a history with the other western teams.
  8. If, in fact, Stanford is willing to join the ACC for nothing, would the Big 10 step up and offer them , maybe with Cal, at a very reduced rate? Is the Big just sitting back, waiting for the fallout, ready to swoop in to pick up the pieces for nothing? Adding the SF viewers for pittance makes pretty good sense to me.
  9. Lets see, $25M vs eventually $75M, national exposure vs regional exposure, and easier recruiting, bigger competition. USC and UCLA already gone, Co already out the door, Az with one foot out the door, and OSU expects UO to give that up just to save them and a sinking ship? If the roles were reversed, there's not a chance OSU would turn that down to save us. I feel bad for the situation OSU is in, but a lot of it is self made, so take some responsibility. Stop blaming and whining, and move forward with the best options that are still available.
  10. I'm not counting the Pac 9 out yet. There are options to replace CU, though I'm sure it's put a wrench in negotiations. The networks need to know what and who they're paying for, and can rely on the teams that sign the contract agreement. Negotiating a contract has to be difficult. Rushing to accept an offer always means money is left on the table. It takes time, walking away a few times, working out each detail to get the best deal. I'm sure that's what our commissioner has been doing. In addition, he may have multiple players he's working with, so I can see why it's taking time. CU just lost patients, Sanders wanted to go to the Big 12, it's CU's roots, so they bailed .
  11. I'm excited for Bo. I hope he has a great year, and becomes a high draft choice. Regardless of his future NFL sucess, with his drive, passion, leadership, and ability to interact with others, I see Coach Bo Nix written all over him.
  12. Happy 67th birthday Charles. Today is our 50th wedding anniversary, with kids here from across the country, so it's a big holiday for us. Is the 4th a great holiday or what.
  13. 1 on 1 with Kenny Dillingham: Living and working the dream at Arizona State 247SPORTS.COM Kenny Dillingham is the youngest FBS head coach in college football. He's living the dream at his dream job. That's great, but what's his plan for Arizona State? I thought this interview was excellent, insightful, and shows similar thinking to what we've heard from Dan Lanning. Quite an impressive and energetic young man.
  14. That's a pretty surprising development. I've seen him play recently and he seemed to be doing okay. Hopefully there's not more to it than coping with what he considers sub par performance, but odd he picked this week to step away. I'd give most anything to be able to play that course.
  15. Big Ten Considering Adding Oregon, Washington: REPORT – OutKick WWW.OUTKICK.COM The Big Ten might invite Oregon and Washington for a reduced revenue share, according to Colin Cowherd. Will the PAC-12 survive? I didn't see this article posted anywhere, so hope I'm not repeating a post
  16. Signing day has past. We've added 30+ new players, many at positions of need, both through signing day and the portal. Where are we still the weakest? Where can we improve or upgrade positions? What players are available still in the portal or second signing period that would help us in areas of need? I'm sure after spring practice, there will be another wave of players to enter the portal, so maintaining depth will need to considered as well.
  17. I'm not sure I completely agree about Oregon not measuring up acedemically. UW is much larger with a bigger diversity of programs, but for the programs we have in common, Oregon certainly measures up. I've got four years at Oregon and another four at UW for grad school. The education I got at Oregon was every bit as good, and at least as difficult as it was at UW. For sure though, you are right. Oregon has a true college town feel, unlike UW in Seattle, which felt large and cold.
  18. REPORTS: Oregon heads to San Diego to take on either No. 21 Notre Dame or UNC in SDCCU Holiday Bowl 247SPORTS.COM What bowl is Oregon heading to? Unsure if correct, but good conversation
  19. As a duck fan, I'm thankful that our games are fun again. That's due to a coach that's young and upbeat, that has a great connection to his players, and wants to be part of the Oregon community. I'm thankful for Mario for showing us that recruiting well can be accomplished at Oregon, and that our new coach seems capable of sustaining or improving upon. I'm equally thankful Mario has moved on to his dream job. I'm thankful for the direction the program is headed. Though this season didn't end as we would have liked, the Duck season was fun to watch, and gives hope for the future.
  20. I don't think Lanning blew it at all. There were two things that ruined our season, the first being Bo getting hurt. Had he not, we would have marched into the endzone vs UW and lead by 10 with a few minutes to play. The second was the botched punt vs OSU along with the still injured Bo. Had Bo been his normal self, we would have handled OSU easily. If those two things hadn't happened, we wouldn't be having this conversation about Lanning as we'd be 11-1. Those 4th down calls in both games likely wouldn't even have existed, and Lanning would have looked like a hero. Losing those two games by a total of 7 points with a gimpy QB and an unfortunate dropped punt in the endzone is not a "colossal failure".
  21. I think several factors play in Lannings decision to get a transfer QB. First is what is Bo going to do? If he stays, we won't need a potential starter. Second, how will taking a transfer affect what Dante Moore does? Last thing Lanning wants to do is anything that concerns him. And lastly, are both Butterfield and TT going to leave, which gives us almost no depth. So if a transfer is taken, are we looking for a starter or just a decent backup. I think Lanning needs some of those questions answered before he makes the transfer decision.
  22. i certanly agree with this. Most every college QB would like the chance to be an NFL starter, but few succeed at doing it. Bo would be a great back up, would stay much healthier, and would get his NFL fix and pension. I think Bo's ultimate livelihood will be coaching. He's got such high football IQ, interacts with teammates and people well, and has serious drive. Maybe he could eventually come back as our QB coach at some point.
  23. Oregon Recruiting: 4-star Caleb Presley announces visit to Washington DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM 4-star CB Caleb Presley, the third-highest-rated commit in Oregon’s 2023 class, will be taking an official visit to the in-state Washington Huskies. This is concerning, as he's our 3rd highest ranked commit
  24. Yet , if we're going to be a national presence with goals of the playoff, we can't dwell on the two rival games. They're obviously more important to the fans, but placing the two rivalry games above the others kind of puts us in the OSU mindset, that being no matter how many we loose, we need to win these two. As a fan, it would have been better to loose to Utah and WSU than UW and OSU, but with the goal being the playoffs, it's the same result.
  25. That then begs the quuestion, what happens next year. Bo was the difference between a potential 11-1 team if he'd remained healthy, a 9-3 team once wounded, and a losing record if he weren't here. With Bo gone, what do we have? Two highly rated, but apparently inadequate returning QBs, and a 5 star incoming freshman. No matter how they play, it's going to be a large step down from what Bo provided.
