  1. Nothing against Liberty, I'm sure they're a fine team, but we drew the short straw on this one. I'm assuming it's because we're from the dying Pac 12, geographically closer to Glendale than other NY6 teams, and with east coast political clout, no one there wanted to play them. I would think there will be a serious bail out of seniors and draft eligible players. As high scoring as that team is, it will be a serious challenge for Oregon's 2nd and 3rd string players.
  2. Oregon 34-27 1 turnover 4 sacks 287 yards passing
  3. If I were Texas A&M, I wouldn't fire a coach with a $75M payout without having a definite game plan and some ideas about who I could get and what I was going to do.. I realize by starting now, they're ahead of the end of season firings, but I would still want to have an idea of who would be interested. It seems to me that there would already have been behind the scene conversations with potential candidates prior to the firing, but maybe that's not how it works. Maybe Lanning has already been contacted, or maybe he isn't even one of their top candidates. Everything we've heard is just media speculation based on potential candidates successes. Lanning is very young and still has a lifetime of coaching ahead of him. I just don't see him jumping ship with the way our program is progressing at this point in his career.
  4. I just can't see this happening, it just doesn't fit his character. He was pretty specific about why he picked Oregon, what the potential was here, and what his goals were. He has everything going for him. Great staff, recruiting extremely well, program heading in the direction he wants, and an awesome fan base. He's paid well, and I just don't see hie integrity allowing him to leave in less than two years with his goals here in reach. Unlike Slick Willie and Mari-no-O, he wouldn't be returning to his alma mater or even a place he's coached before. Why would he leave a relatively calm environment to go to a pressure cooker job at a school that is a lateral move at best. He's paid well, and if needed, would be paid even more. Again, this potential move just doesn't fit his character to me. He just seems more honorable than that, and I don't see him leaving 25 new recruits in the wind. I think they should rip off the Fuskies coach. That would be a meltdown to see.
  5. Lanning seems very focused and goal oriented, namely win a national championship. He's investing a lot in that goal here, and I don't see him quitting or jumping ship until he's reached it. Secondly, he has a young family. The kids seem to be doing well with the school system, and his wife seems happy in Eugene. If that's the case, I see him staying here until his kids are out of school. He just doesn't seem like a money chaser, he's running an up and coming program with national appeal, there's a new challenge with the Big 10, he's very well paid, and he's inching closer to that national championship. Why would he leave?
  6. Postgame Quotes: Utah vs. Oregon - University of Utah Athletics UTAHUTES.COM UTAH QUOTES Post game thoughts from SLC
  7. Lanning always says how important the last 2 minutes of the first half and first 2 minutes of the econd half are. We'll see how the Ducks handle it. So far, not particularly great. Whittingham generally makes great second half adjustments, and really motivates his team. Utah is far from done, especially if Oregon can't get it's scoring machine going again.
  8. Oregon 24-20 0 turnovers 3 sacks 221 yards passing I hope I'm not just being a homer here. I think Utah, with the home field, loud crowd, cool weather and high altitude, will be a really tough game. Like the OSU game, I think you can throw away the records and stats, and which team shows up with the serious desire to win will prevail.
  9. Yes, he should have made the kick, but it's a lot of pressure, and a 42 yd kick isn't a chip shot. Lanning went on 4th down twice instead of a field goal, and again with under two minutes. If just one of the three were successful ,we'd be having a different conversation. Don't know why he didn't punt at the end of the game, other than they couldn't stop UW, and they wanted to be the offense controlling the end of the game.
  10. The big screen TV will be warmed up, ready to go, my cushy recliner as well. The garage beer frig is on extra cold, and a large assortment of central Oregon craft IPAs are chilling and waiting. Didn't invite friends over,as I'll just need to be left alone so I can concentrate on the game ( and the beer). It's a great football weekend, starting with last nights game, and there are killer Pac 12 games through the day. If I can just get through our game, the rest of the games will be very relaxing.
  11. I'm with you, if they're good enough, take the sure thing. My concern for next year, as I'm sure is most fans, is who will we have for a quaterback. It seems like all the good teams have great quarterback play anymore. Will either present backups be good enough, will the two new recruits be the answer, or will Lanning again dip into the transfer portal for a proven high end player like he did with Nix.? We have all the pieces for next year, except the uncertainty of the most important position, the QB. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the right person was in the portal, Lanning would grab him.
  12. Dan Lanning celebrates with Oregon fans after beating Stanford SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Dan Lanning ran across the field after Oregon beat Stanford so he could celebrate with Ducks fans who made the trip. I thought this was so cool after the Stanford game. After the coaches handshake and greeting Stanford's players, DL ran over to the Oregon fan section and was shown on tv high fiving and interacting with the Oregon fans that had made the trip. Not sure I've ever seen that before. He certainly knows PR.
  13. Still, there is income coming into the Pac12 this year while all 12 teams are still members. Not all the assets are deferred past the time these teams leave. While I see the reasons these 10 schools shouldn't be allowed to vote regarding the future of the Pac 12, and use of deferred assets and income, it still seems wrong to withhold present income while all 12 teams are still members.
  14. The 10 teams may not have voting rights, but shouldn't they still get Pac 12 incentives, pac 12 network revenues, basketball tourney receipts, etc. up until the time they actually give up their membership? They shouldn't be allowed to make determinations of Pac 12 future, or get future earnings, but I would think they should get their income share until they leave.
  15. If the Big does ultimately swoop in and grab Stanford and Cal, it would obviously be a big advantage for Oregon. Not just because there would be a western pod of teams so a little less travel, but also because we would likely play them on a regular basis, and Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and maybe even UW are likely weaker teams than many of the Big teams. That might be a real advantage, especially since UO has a history with the other western teams.
  16. If, in fact, Stanford is willing to join the ACC for nothing, would the Big 10 step up and offer them , maybe with Cal, at a very reduced rate? Is the Big just sitting back, waiting for the fallout, ready to swoop in to pick up the pieces for nothing? Adding the SF viewers for pittance makes pretty good sense to me.
  17. Lets see, $25M vs eventually $75M, national exposure vs regional exposure, and easier recruiting, bigger competition. USC and UCLA already gone, Co already out the door, Az with one foot out the door, and OSU expects UO to give that up just to save them and a sinking ship? If the roles were reversed, there's not a chance OSU would turn that down to save us. I feel bad for the situation OSU is in, but a lot of it is self made, so take some responsibility. Stop blaming and whining, and move forward with the best options that are still available.
  18. I'm not counting the Pac 9 out yet. There are options to replace CU, though I'm sure it's put a wrench in negotiations. The networks need to know what and who they're paying for, and can rely on the teams that sign the contract agreement. Negotiating a contract has to be difficult. Rushing to accept an offer always means money is left on the table. It takes time, walking away a few times, working out each detail to get the best deal. I'm sure that's what our commissioner has been doing. In addition, he may have multiple players he's working with, so I can see why it's taking time. CU just lost patients, Sanders wanted to go to the Big 12, it's CU's roots, so they bailed .
  19. I'm excited for Bo. I hope he has a great year, and becomes a high draft choice. Regardless of his future NFL sucess, with his drive, passion, leadership, and ability to interact with others, I see Coach Bo Nix written all over him.
  20. Happy 67th birthday Charles. Today is our 50th wedding anniversary, with kids here from across the country, so it's a big holiday for us. Is the 4th a great holiday or what.
  21. 1 on 1 with Kenny Dillingham: Living and working the dream at Arizona State 247SPORTS.COM Kenny Dillingham is the youngest FBS head coach in college football. He's living the dream at his dream job. That's great, but what's his plan for Arizona State? I thought this interview was excellent, insightful, and shows similar thinking to what we've heard from Dan Lanning. Quite an impressive and energetic young man.
  22. That's a pretty surprising development. I've seen him play recently and he seemed to be doing okay. Hopefully there's not more to it than coping with what he considers sub par performance, but odd he picked this week to step away. I'd give most anything to be able to play that course.
  23. Big Ten Considering Adding Oregon, Washington: REPORT – OutKick WWW.OUTKICK.COM The Big Ten might invite Oregon and Washington for a reduced revenue share, according to Colin Cowherd. Will the PAC-12 survive? I didn't see this article posted anywhere, so hope I'm not repeating a post
  24. Signing day has past. We've added 30+ new players, many at positions of need, both through signing day and the portal. Where are we still the weakest? Where can we improve or upgrade positions? What players are available still in the portal or second signing period that would help us in areas of need? I'm sure after spring practice, there will be another wave of players to enter the portal, so maintaining depth will need to considered as well.
  25. I'm not sure I completely agree about Oregon not measuring up acedemically. UW is much larger with a bigger diversity of programs, but for the programs we have in common, Oregon certainly measures up. I've got four years at Oregon and another four at UW for grad school. The education I got at Oregon was every bit as good, and at least as difficult as it was at UW. For sure though, you are right. Oregon has a true college town feel, unlike UW in Seattle, which felt large and cold.
