  1. I've already seen Chip mentioned on a couple chat boards as a potential offensive coordinator if he is in fact terminated at UCLA. For fans of other programs who would like to see him on their staff I would just reiterate that Chip is not enthusiastic about recruiting and he is not a schmoozer with fans/boosters. That might work at some programs if their HC clearly understood that when hiring him. Several years ago Oregon had a journeyman OC named Al Borges who has floated among several programs. Borges could be creative on offense, but had the same negatives as Chip. At Oregon, Chip benefited from inheriting an established staff and some damn good skill players on offense. Which he combined with a fast pace offense that was foreign to most opponents in that era. It is kind of akin to a high school that runs a spin-T offense that their opponents only see once a season. That advantage has dissipated. Contributors here could list a litany of interpersonal negative experiences they had with Chip. In the "heat of the season" most of those things were overlooked because of the W-L record. They are not overlooked when the W-L's don't flow properly. Could Chip be a head coach again if he and UCLA part company? Yes. But, both parties would have to have their eyes open going in, and I think perhaps Chip needs to suppress his ego a bit to analyze a situation where he could be successful. My own thought on this is, what would he be like as the HC of a military service academy? While in total my remarks sound negative, the reality is that Oregon fans owe a lot to Chip, and most recognize that and are still fond of him. But, his last season was 2012 and there has been a lot happen to both Chip and Oregon since those days.
  2. Stein's old boss at UTSA interviewed with Tex A&M yesterday. He has a lot of background in the state of Texas football culture. He may not be a "big enough" name to be offered that job, but doesn't mean some other program might not offer him. If so, the UTSA job would be open. Don't know whom UTSA has on their promotable list, but one probably spent this current season coaching in Eugene.
  3. OSU at home - Beavs are favored 55-7 – UC Davis 26-9 – San Diego St 21-7 – Utah 36-24 – UCLA 62-17 – Stanford Fuskies on the road 41-7 – Michigan St 31-24 – Arizona 42-33 – Stanford 52-42 - USC
  4. Dillingham's out-of-the-box thinking.... https://footballscoop.com/news/kenny-dillingham-and-asu-beat-ucla-utilizing-swinging-gate-and-numerous-creative-offensive-sets-you-cant-be-scared-to-be-different
  5. Whomever takes the A&M job needs to understand first that he will have about 50 AD's instead of just one. A&M is probably the unchallenged champion of booster meddling. Too many guys, with too much money, who think their opinion should hold sway over anyone else.
  6. Here's a video overview of Eugene. For Midwesterners I always recommend the short trip west to the coast as noted above by an earlier contributor. Or, in summer a trip east to the mountains. But, this video may help you get your bearings.
  7. Wins against one team with a winning record (Utah).... --uh, Oregon also has wins against three teams that are 4-5. Except for the Oregon loss, they would be 5-4. McElroy did lead Alabama to the 2009 title. He then went on to play in 2 total NFL games, and started 1. He is part of the legacy that Alabama has had to overcome with poor transition to NFL QBs....AJ McCarron, Mac Jones, Jay Barker...there was a long dry spell between Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Ken Stabler and the more recent Jalen Hurts and Tua. McElroy was part of that dry spell.
  8. Monday, 1:30 PT start in Las Vegas. On TruTV if you have that on your cable or satellite. DISH is Ch 242, I believe.
  9. "There was talk about the Texas QB, who I believe played for Will Stein in high school?" Well, it's been a few years since Stein was at Lake Travis, but I believe you may be thinking of Hudson Card? He signed with Texas, then transferred to Purdue. He is still at Purdue, is a junior. Purdue is 2-7 and not sure what his supporting cast is like. At Travis, he ran Stein's offense which was called the FTS Offense. (Feed the Studs) Purdue hosts Minnesota, 12:30, NBC, this Saturday. Lake Travis has a QB history: Baker Mayfield, Garrett Gilbert, Charlie Brewer among them.
  10. USC at Oregon: 7:30 pm, Fox

  12. In latest filing, 10 departing Pac-12 schools suggest WSU, OSU want 2023-24 revenue for themselves WWW.SPOKESMAN.COM Washington filed a motion of opposition to a preliminary injunction on Thursday.
  13. "Why would he leave?" For a location where the time that has to be devoted to recruiting, and traveling to recruit, and time and distance for assistants to recruit, is more moderate. It was a factor in Kelly, Taggart and Cristobal leaving. Not implying that Oregon is an unattractive recruiting destination, just that the effort of coaches and effects on their families, often wears on coaches to a degree unappreciated by us fans. Building a program that attracts recruits helps. Recruits recruiting other players helps. But doesn't eliminate the time and travel equation for coaching staff.
  14. I always temper my reading of Ken Woody's analysis with the knowledge he was 3-16 in his last head coaching job. I do enjoy Aliotti's analysis on Pac12 Network.
  15. Nick Aliotti, ?, Rich Brooks I believe that is Dwight Roberson.
  16. The two most-watched Ducks games this season have been 3:30 pm ET. That time slot was not just a random selection by the network.
  17. Jon, I was about to post the comment on the Wasserman column as well. He makes a strong argument in favor of DL's play calling and his future potential. DL is 37, this is his first head coaching job. The Athletic is a pay site, though pretty inexpensive if you subscribe during one of their "deals." Has a lot of good stuff on college football.
  18. Would UW/Penix been able to score from 90 yds instead of 53? Maybe. But, starting from 90 yds away creates a different mind set on play selection, and the additional yardage creates an opportunity for more offense screwups such as interceptions, fumbles, sacks allowed, offensive holding, false start. Saving the fake punt? The surprise element against Colorado was due to field position and Colorado setting up for a return. If it had been run in that last 2:16 situation the dawgs would have been coming with a lot of guys trying to block it which would have meant more tacklers in the area of the punter and upback.
  19. What was it, 3 yds for a first down with 2:16 left? Yes, Penix has receivers. Yes, the Ducks secondary was a bit gassed. But, the more yds a competitor is away from scoring, the more opportunities for them to screw up...throw an interception, jump off sides, take a sack, etc. etc. UW may have scored, but they would have had to travel more yds to earn it. Perhaps 90 yds vs 53 yds causes a different mind set when you are trying to catch up. That being said, in the late game last night, Colorado State went 88 yds in the final 33 secs. and scored on a Hail Mary to beat Boise State. As for play calls, I thought Jerry Allen made an interesting comment during the game. Not at the end, but earlier. "Why don't teams run their two-point conversion plays when faced with fourth and short?" It is interesting to contemplate...even if it only forces a competitor to use a timeout.
  20. Good point. If "we" only have value by whom we associate with, that doesn't say much about our own value. Thus, sounds petty to blame the others. And, doesn't that potentially drag down their value to maintain the association for your benefit? The sequence: USC/UCLA - felt dragged down by an association (Pac12) Colorado - bailed while they could still project value on their own UW/UO - options narrowing, chose a lifeboat offer that would be their offer to accept alone, two seats available Arizona - eyelids flirting with Big12, reserved a boat in case a better deal wasn't forthcoming Utah, ASU - jumped from the deck before the ship sank Cal, Stanford - bought a less ocean worthy raft with their stockpile of academic asset tokens WSU, OSU - no tokens, no offers, no lifeboat - so far
  21. The standard Clue game has 324 possible outcomes with 6 characters, 6 weapons, and nine rooms. Imagine 10 characters, 10 rooms and untold weapons? Yet our rodent friends want to jump to the conclusion it was 1 character (Oregon), 1 room (Casanova Center), and 1 weapon (PK). Why? Because it is just easier for the simple minded to focus on one outcome. Don’t want to waste their time considering Miss Scarlet, with a candlestick, in the conservatory. It doesn’t fit their preconceived narrative. They should re-read Wilner again: https://sports360az.com/and-utah-makes-10-how-every-departing-pac-12-school-drove-a-knife-into-the-conference/ Without considering a more comprehensive view they be the ones who succumb to the candlestick.
  22. Francis set the national high school record for the javelin in 1970 while at Pleasant Hill High (Oregon). The record stood for 18 years until it was broken by 1 inch by Art Skipper from Sandy High (Oregon). Francis lost his life in a small plane accident. Skipper lost his life in 2001 near Sandy in a small plane accident. Sam Crouser, Gresham High (Oregon) set a new standard in 2010; but, by then the javelin had been redesigned so it wouldn't travel as far due to safety reasons at track meets.
  23. Another undefeated to consider is Air Force. In their last 3 games, the margin of victory has been impressive. They will not play Fresno State unless both make it to championship game.
