  1. Gosh I look at things differently. I see reasons why things happened

In 19 we didn't have the WRs to go downfield much and a great line to run the ball.

    20 covid

21 Injuries and an inconsistent QB who missed wide open guys downfield every game.  What would have happened if we just hit 1 or 2 of those. As far as the checkdowns that is on the QB.

I agree he had problems on the field.

One I see constantly being talked about and disagree with is his running the ball with to many yards to go.

I posit he was being careful to not make mistakes. Knowing the limitations with his squad he faced over the years this makes more sense to me.

I liked his philosophy of dominating both sides of the ball. He did want to take shots down the field and have explosive plays. The Ducks just didn't execute them.

I'm sorry but I believe he's going to be successful and will have the size and talent at Miami to be up in the best of the country every year

He's not the only one having problems with hiring staff. There has been so much turnover in coaching circles this year. in fact the most ever.

  2. If you can dominate the lines your chance of winning goes way up in CFB and the pros.

As far as our OL none of them were highly recruited. Their performance, I agree wasn't consistent.

They had no playing experience in the first year, then in the 2nd didn't develop any continuity because of constant changes. There were 11 different lineups that started.

  3. I'm sorry Sideburns I have to respectfully disagree. I don't remember MC lying to us when asked. He said he hadn't been in contact with them.

What would we expect from him in that situation. It's a lose/lose question. If he tells the truth half the people hate him if he says he's not half the people hate him.

And let's not forget no other coaches that I'm aware of handle it any different when the team is still in the regular season. That's just a rule that's followed.

I for one don't feel he made that decision and a tortuous one at that, until that Monday morning. Go back and look at the pics he didn't look like he had slept for several days.

IMHO no matter if you didn't like his coaching scheme or performance on the field, I believe we have to see he did give his best for the Ducks and his players from the time he got the job until he left for his alma mater.

Denver Duck, welcome. Look forward to your comments and posts.

I love this forum and the Ducks. My concern is my recurring dream where the Ducks lose 1 game against a lesser opponent almost every year. This happens to all schools except the top CFP contenders. You cannot lose to the teams you should beat and expect to be in the CFP. Recruiting classes ranked 10-25 will not be making it to the CFP.

Couple that with some insane scheduling and the goal gets even tougher. I believe Coach Lanning has the potential to be a great coach. Time will tell.........

The reason is it's damn hard to go through a whole season undefeated

Those other players want to win as much as our guys.

It's also a mental challenge with a lot of things thrown in that has to be accounted for. And a lot these players are still kids. Etc

Even if you are more talented life can jump up and bite you. There are 4 or 5 teams a year that can overcome the odds but out of 120 teams those odds aren't great.

  5. I have a different take on this. Look at the BB minor leagues. After your Sr yr in HS you can get drafted and sign to play and start on your career. Which is the best of the best players.

Or u can sign to play in the NCAA or lower divisions. If u make this choice and the coach wants u then u have to stay at least 3 yrs before u can be drafted to play pro.

I don't see how that would be much different than what is going to happen now in CFB.

Also money doesn't necessarily ruin your motivation. Some BB players that are drafted get large signing bonuses. U still have to be motivated or else you won't have a spot very long.

It will play out very similar for FB players. It's not going to be Armageddon. I still posit it's going to be fine.

  6. We can't stop NIL money or the portal but the schoolsdo have control of scholarships. One way would be to means test in some way. We can say players who get NIL forefi a scholarship. Then they would be able to play without doing anything else but FB or going to class to get their degree if they so choose. I would keep them as students and be associated with the school.

Just got to think out of the box
