  1. In this Dillingham interview with Feldman at one point in discussing his creativity, he says "The best coaches aren't stubborn....they continue to learn and grow."

    I instantly thought of MariØ

  2. Partly cloudy high 40's small chance of rain.  Perfect conditions to whoop some Hooskies.

Although I find myself with a tamped down hatred this year due to the Jimmy Lake firing.  I need to build up my Kaelen De Boring antipathy.

Hopefully, Coach KDB will give me some bulletin board material this week.  Jimmy had a good trash talk game that he couldn't back up with gridiron prowess.

I can't believe that the Chargers and Falcons isn't being shown on Fox in Portland (Hillsboro), there is a reason I tend not to watch the NFL- we always have to watch a Seattle team.

Same story ever since Seattle entered the NFL......main reason I am no longer an NFL watcher until Wild Card playoffs begin.  Nothing better than NFL playoffs in Pro Sports, Stanley Cup is a distant number 2, IMHO

  4. It looks like Steven Jones may be back now.  Plus we will have JPJ, Jaramillo, Harper and Conerly with significant snaps this year. The Laloulu brothers, Bailey Jaramillo, Bram Walden, Michael Wooten plus Silva, and Baker round out two-deep.

Most of those guys will have playing experience and/or two offseasons with Klemm.  I think we will be solid on  the line next year.  But they need some bigtime guys in 2024 class for sure.

Plus, who knows what the Portal may bring......likely a couple of additions over the next 2-3 months.

Interesting comments from Mario in that column. I give him credit for "helping to rebuild the brand" after Slick Willie with recruiting but I've seen a couple of other comments from him and some media folks giving him credit for what's happening THIS year. It's very infuriating. The reality is that if he is still here Nix, Irving, Dillingham, Lupoi I  think is DC's last name, and on and on wouldn't have even of thought about coming here. We probably would have lost other players to portal. Once again his pride won't let him acknowledge that a brand new 1st year coach is getting better results from his players in 7 games than Mario did in 5 years.

MariØ is in full spin mode to try and salvage his reputation.  As he grasps for straws, he sees his old squad winning and he wants some cred for himself.   Shallow and self-serving, reeking of desperation and not a good look overall.

  6. Based on what I have read and heard (and seen), there is evidence that the LB corps is underperforming.  PFF and NCAA metrics are cited by those making this argument.  I think Mr. FishDuck has hit on the main reasons why.

Like the OP, I was jazzed to see Sewell and Flowe play together and am equally shocked by the underperformance. At the start of the season, I thought "Finally the Ducks don't have talented undersized LB's....we have a tandem of 5-star Monsters of the MIdway!"

I guess the good news is that Flowe may come back for one more season at this point....unless he goes ballistic the rest of the way, which wouldn't be bad for OBD at all!

Add me to the list of the dumbfounded.

  7. Watching Tennessee-Bama and the officials are leaving the flags in their pockets.  While the flow of the game is good, a couple of uncalled penalties were of the targeting variety and fairly egregious.

While the flag-happy PAC-12 officials drive me nuts, these SEC guys may be too lenient from a player safety standpoint.  To the credit of the coaches and players, both sidelines have remained calm.

I received a PM that stated the following about your post:

[Your remark]...struck me as off-topic and inflammatory, not to mention flat-out wrong and perpetuating a stereotype.  I work with many non-profits and the vast majority have overhead ratios below 25% (often below 15%), yet they're constantly accused of "spending all their money on staff and fundraising."

I agree, but not with either of you, but to please keep the discussion to Oregon Sports?  I have enough to moderate without getting into the finances of Non-Profits.

Duly noted.  And apologies to any offended.

  9. This will probably make me persona non grata but...

The awareness month schtick has outplayed its usefulness.  When every month is labeled (fill in the blank) Month it becomes perfunctory.

Also, breast cancer research is already extremely well-funded.  But, the deadliest cancers have a fraction of the funding that breast cancer does. So, if we're going to do this, let's just have "Cancer Awareness" and then there's no need for pink uniform embellishments and we can help even more people.  Win-win.

‘Embarrassing’ or stigmatized cancers like lung and liver are underfunded

I would venture to say it is both for this reason.  Dilly's scheme causes defenses to constantly assess their fronts.  This was something that I found myself watching a lot in the Arizona game.  I again give credit to Yogi Roth because he actually pointed this out several times on the broadcast.

When Oregon has success running the ball, Arizona's defense adjusted to put more guys in the box.  Dilly would then have a screen or slant sent up and defeat the defense.  Defense goes back to 6 or 7 in the box, Oregon runs the ball.  The major exception to this was Whittington's run.  All Arizona defenders were within 7 yards of the LOS, Whittington just had the speed and acceleration to defeat it.

Dilly's scheme is why Bo is having such a great season.   He was at ease in the pocket because he could see what the Arizona defense was doing and knew exactly how to beat it.   Klemm's development is allowing the O-Line (and TE's) to be more than in-the-box blockers.  They are getting out into space on pulls and the TE's are working sometimes almost as FB's.  The athleticism for that is reminiscent of Chip Kelly O-Line's but with more attitude and beef.

Thanks Ktmguy for taking the time to fill me in.....sounds like an upgrade in scheme and technique is sparking the improvement.  This staff has elevated the quality of play dramatically so far.
