  1. KT strikes me as a well-rounded, curious intellectual kid who is living a "life examined" as Socrates suggested.

He may not be a singular focus, "football is life" guy.

Doesn't mean he won't be successful in the NFL. He may change focus once he receives appropriate remuneration and be "all-in" like Damian Lillard, regardless of franchise success or history.

I also understand why he is media scrutinized the way he is.

  2. Hi mrspenny, it's good to see you here.  Please post often.  This site reminds of one particular long gone Duck site that was a collection of good humored fans who went through the ups and downs together for a couple of decades.  This includes signing day chatrooms with many of us surreptitiously logged in while at work pretending to work though our inboxes.

That site sold to a recruiting service and they condensed everything into one board that focused on recruiting all year to sell subscriptions.  That's when I tapped out.

In looking back, I think that when Beavermobile slipped this earthly coil, that board was lost forever.

At least we have Repo Santa though.

  3. I love all three of these guys....we are fortunate to have these choices.  Butterfield has looked the more natural passer and reader of defenses, but Ty clearly has the physical skillset.  Nix has SEC conference experience and knowledge of the offense clearly a capable high quality college QB.

With Georgia and BYU up in Games 1 and 2, and a first-year coach, you have to think Nix is the odds-on favorite to start.  If not, then he was beaten out by a QB with NFL potential.

Someone will have a tough decision to make after Spring.  Maybe potential QB recruits are waiting to see how things shake out before committing.  If someone transfers, another program is going to get a great QB....

Haven't been paying that much attention to the rating agencies but will defer to those who have been. Wouldn't it be a better qualifier to rate the production of the players to see if they match the projected stars if even possible.

Yes, it would.....also to rate the efficacy of the individual scouts/raters

  5. If I were a smart financial/actuarial type, I would figure out how to bundle future Duck football revenues into NIL deals with an annuity device that provides a basic income for the athlete for their lifetime and scaled earnings based on a combined scorecard of personal, unit and team goals while in the Duck uniform.  These incentives would encourage commitment to the team while playing, as well as, a commitment to the "progrum" after their career to insure that future team revenues are as high as possible to maintain the expanded NIL payouts.

I thought that since many of you do not have the subscription availability to these sites--you would enjoy it as I did!

A dilemma for many of us diehard fans of Our Beloved Ducks, is that progressing further into "Greybeard-age" does not always mean we become more noble human...

Thanks for posting these quotes, Charles.....I avoid those sites.

He was also very tactful in his responses... There is a whole lot to read between the lines for us as fans but nothing there that would burn any bridges for his coaching future.

Exactly.....he managed to say a lot without saying anything.  He has a career to think about.  Nonetheless, he seemed to say that Ty was always 1b.  No shame in that....given the level of HS football he came from and AB's experience.

    Great stuff. You go girl!

But it comes down to dollars and cents and not gender. It is a simple fact, women's sports, like many the men's Olympic sports exist because of men's CFB and CBB.

So, you give the guys in the $ ball sports an NIL salary and a coming pay-for-play salary and what will happen to women's sports? What will happen to men's scholarship golf, tennis, etc.?

At the end of the day you have a Pyrrhic Victory.

I think someone once referred to this as the Law of Unintended Consequences.

I think we should take a look at the big picture view of the overall under achievement of the Mario era instead of just the underachievement of individual players.

These guys were sold on bringing back the big time splash of Duck football but were given a conservative play not to lose game plan on both sides of the ball.

They all saw a potential Heisman winner Herbert reduced to a game manager. They saw many 4 1/2-5 star players sit on the sidelines in favor of vanilla upper class men.

KT called out Mario as a fraud and Pitman had a similar take in his parting rant. Both the former DC and OC couldn’t get out of here fast enough.

There’s probably much more dissatisfaction we’ll never know about. With all that as a backdrop, along with the disturbing amount of season ending injuries last year, it’s not surprising that players may have dialed back their out put.

Hopefully Lanning is the real deal and the team enjoys running through the wall for him next year. Don’t be surprised if KT ends up looking like everything we hoped he’d be here in the NFL.

Thanks, Kid......great post.  You mentioned that KT called out Mario.   I musta missed that, can you paraphrase his criticism, or point me to a source.  Thanks, IDROS

Canzano wrote more about himself than he did sports.  My feelings about him departing the Oregonian?  YEA!

I'm with you....and this was the O's decision, according to Ken Goe.

I might just renew my Oregonian subscription now.  Unless Fentress is promoted.

  11. I realize Bill isn't everyone's cup of tea.  But, he is a wonderful human that helps more people than we know because he never talks about it.  He is a parent, teacher, coach, mentor to youth extraordinaire.

He did a 90 second promo spot for Oregon last night that is invaluable to our tourism industry. And, who doesn't enjoy a good Dan Pastorini reference during a mens college basketball game in 2022?
