What is amazing is that we had a real idiot, a bonehead of a writer at FishDuck actually interview Ken Goe in the past!

    FISHDUCK.COM

Charles Fischer of FishDuck.com interviews Ken Goe of OregonLive to discuss what happened to Oregon Track and Field this past year and what the future holds.

That article is a stellar example of high quality sports journalism.  Goe should've studied your form and process for his own self improvement as a journalist!

In reading that piece, I wonder if Phil's "broken relationships" created during the Hayward renovation with the families Jaqua, Hatfield and Bowerman were ever as bad as Goe suggests and where those relationships are now.....

  2. Ken Goe has being a long suffering Duck hater for decades.  His narrative has always been about doom-casting on the Ducks rather than cogent sports analysis and insight.

I take great pleasure in knowing that the Duck's increasing success over the years coincided with his career at that fish wrap, forcing him to have to watch our games and occasionally write a 1000 words that barely hide his seething Duck enmity.

Ken "No" Goe is the proverbial.....

  3. Phil and others have set-up an investment fund to cover ongoing fixed costs of maintaining and enhancing facilities. And it might even cover coaching salaries.  This happened over a decade ago now, IIRC?

Division Street is a separate entity to cover NIL expenses.  So as long as operating revenues (tickets, merchandise, media rights, etc.) can cover operating expenses, the Ducks will be fine. This is why the B1G had to happen.

I think the Autzen work will be enhancements to generate more revenues as much as an expansion.  Think more luxury boxes, expanded food and beverage options (seat service sections), gameday experience packages, full weekend packages with shoulder events before an after a football/basketball game.   If they add seats it will be a modest amount.  Too many people (like me) have given up season tickets for the 70inch at home, and the Valley is growing but slowly compared to larger urban centers.

But, if the B1G means the return of more day games, and these longer weekend packages are available, including an RV spot, or other new accommodations close to campus, then I would consider season tickets again.

Ducks will be fine.  One hitch I see coming though, is a debate about Title IX.  Essentially mens football and to a lesser extent, men's hoops, are the only reliable profit generators.  Those profits fund the other sports.   Someone is going to test that legally.  I suppose worst case Uncle Phil et al, establish an endowment for DAF to cover those costs?

  4. I didn't read the article so my comment is sort of meta....but I don't see how Title IX can remain status quo when the it's Golden Goose (football) is undergoing a sea change that demands the value of the players is recognized and compensated at a market level.

Title IX is a benefit for student athletes paid for by revenues generated by the efforts of football players, and to a lesser extent, men's basketball, in the main.

If those players deserve to be compensated for their value, then more of those revenues will be needed to pay for the increased expenses.

Chip Kelly has been hinting at this for 3 years.....

  5. In this preseason article discussing the secondary, Tysheem Johnson references the complexity of Lanning's scheme compared to Ole Miss.  "Like an NFL defense" with switches, checks and terminology that require deep playbook knowledge.

This backs up what we discussed here on FishDuck last season when Lanning had to scrap much of that playbook given his first and shortened off season with OBD.

Many have said that this offense will score and that the key to the season is getting off the field on 3rd downs for the defense.  Aside from keeping Nix upright, that is the prime directive.  Integrating Coach Hampton and the whole defensive playbook seems to have happened.  Now, they just need the live results on the field.

The transfers from Fresno State and Ole Miss have been working together throughout fall camp.

  6. I have just read two separate threads, the main thrust of which, respectively, were:

    1. Dwight Jaynes doesn't get the new Duck billboard campaign's ROI

    2. Colin Cowherd is a ratings opportunist (cleaned this up a bit)

Color me shocked.....these two have been pontificating and whiffing for over 3 decades.

If Dwight Jaynes were the Ducks AD, we would be looking up the standings at George Fox

A few months ago I started growing tired of Deion and his act.   Now this.  He needs to grow up NOW!  He positions himself as a mentor to these young men.  Encouraging fighting is not what a mentor does.

I’m about the same age as Neon Deion and I reached the same conclusion in 1989
