I wonder if its because Oregon has Covid-19 or Arizona State, or both ??
Anyone know ??

Ok, I'm going out on a limb here. If I remember right the Pac-12 doesn't give out trophies for "winner of the North" or South. Only for the Pac-12 Champion.
Guess who has that Trophy for last season ?? (Hint) It's not Washington.
And next season, Oregon does a Three-Peat

John brings up some really good points about this candidate, but also the timing needed for the job and what awaits the new commissioner. It seems in his writing that John is not just trying to stir the nest, but he really wants a good hire to happen for the sake of the conference.
Canzano: It’s what Ohio State’s Gene Smith isn’t saying the Pac-12 Conference needs to hear by OregonLive

You can bet that if the conference makes a bad hire this time, Schools will be jumping ship quickly and then the Pac-12 will die a fast death.

Also, you find out if you can coach elite talent up to greater heights, or can you only coach up good talent to great?
IMO Oregon has not been known for Coaching Up players that much. It would be nice to see that done more here.

To'o To'o and Sewell would be the best LB duo in the nation for the next two years. That's not counting Flowe and Brown pinch hitting for both!
Unfortunately we haven't seen that much of Flowe this last season. I wouldn't count him as a backup for very long.

Nothing the matter with the way Darren Thomas ran the offense either. He was pretty cool, calm and collected, and while not having the best arm or legs, he was really efficient keeping the offense moving. The team was awfully good with him at the helm. I'd still go with Marcus however.
The most underrated QB the Ducks ever had, Darren Thomas.

So UW has hired a new DC and Jimmy Lake has opted for an internal hire. This would also appear to come with some significant moving of personnel around. (Read right here)
This actually looks great for Oregon as I seriously doubt this staff reshuffle is going to be an upgrade for Washington.
Hiring from within can be a good thing... but this looks more like a lack of confidence on Lake's part and an unwillingness to let anyone touch his defense. We will see if that holds true next year but this on the whole smells like a downgrade for Washington... and I LOVE THIS HIRE!
Totally agree 100%

For some reason I haven't thought of our linebacking group as the defense's problem for 2021. With all of the much hailed "stars" we have back there and in there second season, who would think it.
I have always thought our DL was the weak spot not liinebacker. Henry To'oto'o sounds like a great get for the Ducks and it would be good to have him in the linebacker house but saying he is the fix for our defensive woe's might be a stretch.

That is good news. Hate to see a good player like him sitting on the bench.

Does he lean toward giving the future QB some playing time, or will he play the best he’s got for 4 Qtrs? He seemed willing to change things up late this year for sure.
Thats a good question PittDuck. I would think the decision would be up to the head coach. JM can give input but the bottom line would be Cristobal's to make. With Cristobal being very conservative, so much so that he would rather sit on a 1 point lead then to get aggressive and pile it on, I would think he would rather keep one for all 4 Qtrs.

Whoa ! ! ! !
And why is USC not picked to win the South ??
What is it that they lack ??
And what is it that others in the South have above and beyond USC ??My "way to early prediction" is that USC will win the South and again play Oregon for the Pac-12 championship.

What about giving the "next men up" the chance at some important game experience? Trusting them to be ready for when a starter goes down, in the future. Reps, is what coaches tells you, a player needs to get better. That is part of the draw to a program, since the four game limit against eligibility started for freshman players. Gave them a taste of college while coaches got glimpses of talent in games. I would take 10 points from second and third string players along with giving up 7 points, it makes our future stronger. Allows for talent evaluations while letting iron sharpen iron.
Good point EzDucksit, Oregon could do a lot better at getting non first string players into the game to gain experience. I would like to see every QB coached to be very good at a couple of different plays, and used much like Brown was used last season. This would give them real game time experience that would help them improve even faster.

A power five team... Even a bad one... Is usually better than a decent to good fcs team. So having to play a 9 conference game season does make it just a bit more difficult to run the table.
And for any Pac-12 team to have a chance at getting to the National Playoffs, it would have to run the table. Not true for Clemson, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Georgia, etc.

Interesting article David.
With all the detailed talk about Cristobal's weaknesses of coaching and games management its good to step back and once again take a look at the big picture.
Your statement "Though there isn’t another team in the country in a better position to challenge the status quo of college football more than Oregon." is spot on. Despite the loss in the Fiesta Bowl game the recruiting remains top notch, and if the 2021 season shows a winning season along with a three-peat in the Pac-12 Championship the Ducks will once again be flying high.
