  1. Charles wrote this article about Bird Bombs in the Stein offense before he came to Oregon. Is Oregon’s OC Selling “Bird-Bombs” to Recruits? | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM I have to admit to being pleased with the current line-up of receivers for 2023, along with the additions present for Spring... Nix threw more than we have him credit for last year. Those were the plays that he would get an incompletion if he was going to throw incomplete. That is not to say that Nix missed a ton of those throws only that he never seemed to miss otherwise. I also think that right now we are really missing Franklin. Stewart is supposed to be the next big deep threat at Oregon but we haven't quite seen that just yet. Idaho certainly did out work Oregon at the line of scrimmage (when Oregon was on O). Idaho also did a fantastic job defending sideline-to-sideline so even when Gabriel rolled out he didn't have the time and space to make the throw. Idaho played out of their minds well. Our Ducks though had horrible line play that let the offense down as well. Our runningbacks just struggled to punch into the secondary because there just weren't any holes. Then our attempts to attack the edges were poor because our offensive line didn't seal the edge and give a running lane for them either. It's going to be a long game next week if the offensive line doesn't pull itself together and fast.
  2. Gabriel is a pretty good runner. He had some of the most rushing yards at Oklahoma last year. Granted they didn't run the ball that much, but he can absolutely run. He opted not to run. Whether by his choice or play design. He is a pretty accurate QB but I'll be honest I found his play uninspired. I found Nix to be quite boring but that was only because he was so ruthlessly efficient that there was often no sense.lf drama. He was got it done. Gabriel just doesn't feel like he's at the same level as Nix. I'm hoping that changes and quick.
  3. When I read the topic title my initial thought was the same! Pretty sure Lanning is feeling the same way. Was it just me or did it feel like the sideline was just dead this evening as well as the on-field product.
  4. The offensive line felt the most suspect to me on the whole tonight. They didn't get decent push and the run game suffered and Gabriel felt under a bit too much pressure to really look down field. Gabriel has a shot down field early in the game but the timing on the throw was off because Gabriel was under pressure. The best news to me is that Lanning and the Ducks are going to treat this like a gut punching horrendous loss. There will be no celebrating this win. But we should see a massive turnaround for the team next week because everyone is going to work their butts off. It felt like the Ducks were unfocused out there and they certainly didn't finish drives. Lanning is going to be pissed about this result and we should see the Ducks come out next Saturday out for redemption.
  5. He locked down his assignments and they never threw to him. He was out there.
  6. We survived.... I'm confident that Lanning will get this team ready and motivated for next week. Because they need it.
  7. And we shouldn't deserve it. This team needs to come alive and play with some pashion and they haven't done that.
  8. Offensive line is holding this entire team back right now. The run game is getting clogged up at the line of scrimmage by an offensive line that isn't pushing.
  9. Listening to the pregame show it feels like many in the B1G media still don't know the Ducks. Ready... Set... Go! Let's see just how ready the Ducks are. Nothing will convince any of them today but it starts today.
  10. Ok... This was just reported from the sideline during the game. Mario Cristobal said they need to "eliminate the stupid stuff... Substitutions problems and burning timeouts" That's less a players problem a really a coaching problem! Some things just don't change.
  11. I want Cristobal to win today. Because that starts to open the door to Florida considering a new head coach..and hopefully that's Jedd Fisch which makes Washington sad. Otherwise I'm happy Cristobal left Oregon because it was a nice pay day for the Ducks and we got San Freaking Lanning. We came out big in that arrangement. So today I'm rooting for Husky tears... Even if it's the long game.
  12. Finally a conference they can dominate. For a few years at least.
  13. If anything it's making Georgia look mortal. Clemson's offense hasn't been good but we'll see just how good in the coming weeks. It's taken a long time for Georgia to break through this game. It's going to be an interesting year.
  14. I agree... I don't feel like I know the new conference yet. And I probably won't feel like I know it for a season or two.
  15. Clemson is looking good against Georgia through one quarter. I don't think it will last but this might be the best Clemson team in years.
  16. Wow that's a name I have completely forgotten about!
  17. Thats fine... We can be unranked for most of the season for all I care. I don't think anyone should be ranked until the end of September personally. Preseason rankings are all over the place.
  18. But Clemson could still be good. Many of these teams could still be good but maybe not national championship good. For Clemson they'll need to show they can compete even if they get beat. Losing to Georgia in game one isn't a death sentence. Especially not in the era of a 12 team playoff.
  19. I would say the Texas Tech game was a result of the DNA established a year earlier in the Washington State game. It's certainly proof that the culture is working and lessons were learned. Even down to the forced interception turned into a pick six late in the fourth was similar between the two games.
  20. That was a great way to end the game. But if I were to choose a game or two against good teams that showed off Lanning execution as a coach. I'd probably say civil war last year and probably the Utah game last year. Wall to wall domination against good teams, not great, but teams that showed if you left a crack for them to squeeze through they'd be happy to bite ya. And he just slammed the door shut on them nice and early and never looked back.
  21. Personally I'm absolutely fine with his desire to go for it. My gripe is on play calls as I think they should have been better. But in the end I think that killer instinct and trusting his team is what will get him a national championship. If the and went another way we'd be calling him absolutely brilliant but they didn't. I think there were lessons to learn but most fans and casual viewers and pundits don't know them.
  22. I think that was a bit of Nix as well. There were quite a few times where Nix could have ran but he opted to pass instead. I think part of it is also a change in coordinator going from Dillingham to Stein. But as for this year. I wouldn't be surprised for maybe a bit more cavalier approach with running the quarterback because that is in Gabriel's skill set (his running is different than Nix's) and we have a back-up quarterback! I don't think there is any fear with this staff in putting in Moore if they need to and having that safety net does allow for a bit more quarterback freedom.
  23. If we didn't bring in any transfers, I think Thompson would have lost out to Novosad regardless. Even Luke Moga looked better in the Spring Game than Thompson has in the past.
