  1. First, I present a short article by Brent McMurphy posted by Rufus, (thank you) on another thread. See my summary of a few items at the bottom... Oregon And Washington "Vetted" And "Cleared" To Join The Big Ten According To New Report – OutKick WWW.OUTKICK.COM The Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies have been vetted and cleared to potentially join the Big Ten, according to a new report. Justin Hopkins on On3/ScoopDuck still believes that Colorado is departing for the Big-12, and that Oregon is headed (sooner or later) to the B1G. Brent McMurphy says that "people I trust" feel that both Arizona and Colorado might be headed out the door. He goes on to say that both Oregon and Washington are "vetted," which makes no sense to me because that takes about 20 seconds to determine that. It appears that everyone is waiting for a shoe to drop, because we have THREE parties who want the Pac-12 to dissolve so they can get Oregon/Washington on the cheap. Those three are: --Fox Sports --B1G Conference, and the surprise is... --ESPN None of them want "blood on their hands" for the destruction of a conference, thus I wonder if behind the scenes we have those three parties poking at the Big-12 Commissioner to aggressively go after some Pac-12 schools? Don't get me wrong; they ALL want the Pac-12 to die for their own reasons, but simply don't want to be seen as responsible for it? They want us to implode on our own out of panic to clear their conscience. Thus I think the behind-the-scenes-stuff must be pretty wild and intense. I listened to the eight minute video above, as between that and JHop...it feels like the shadows of vultures overhead are on the ground around us.
  2. And who/what is Brent McMurphy's source? A ton of blah-blah speculation in that article that we have already heard, including how Utah is not headed out the door. Anybody can make any claim including how the two schools are "vetted." But where does he get this from? Is he related to Dennis Dodd? How long it takes to "vet" Oregon? --7th biggest college audience globally --Meets the academic profile. --Is a national brand-coupled with NIKE. That did not take long...
  3. It is great to be an underdog...to have to prove it to the nation. I WANT our players to have a chip on their shoulder. We will get respect when we earn-it, with wins. Bask in it when the season is over...
  4. Rufus....I am not wild about your dire take on this, but you really back it up with sound logic. Damn fine posts. In the meantime I am shouting "La-La-La," closing my eyes, and thinking how it will all work out for Oregon...and that is my fantasy! But Oregon will be fine regardless, down the road. (We may have to join the truck-stop conference to retain all the Olympic sports--I get it)
  5. Looks like D-II schools might clean up on Oregon players transferring out. The only transfers out I did not want to happen is Matavo at TE, and Brown at LB. But both are going to be juniors, and juniors have to be starting somewhere--concerning their future. There was no such assurance with the transfers brought in at LB, and considering how Ferguson is going to be the featured TE. So, I don't like it, but I get it. The majority of these are simply the Oregon staff,..."finding out who is the best." Those who are not transfer. We don't know who they are in advance, but the staff recruits tons to allow the competition to occur. Note both Alabama and Georgia did not take many transfers this year, as once you have recruiting classes stacked...not as much need. And it is doubtful there are many in the portal who are better than what they already have on the team. Oregon by contrast, had a lot of needs, a lot of holes to fill, especially on defense in our rebuilding phase.
  6. While I am resigned to eventually joining the B1G in six years, I think there is an excellent chance we stay in the Pac-12. --If Oregon gets a larger share of post-season revenues from the Ducks' participation. --If Oregon gets a slightly larger payout to begin with...since we have the 7th largest college audience globally. --If the new 12 Playoff proves that it is much easier to make the Playoff in the Pac-12 vs. the B1G. --If our total revenues from the above makes a "reasonable survival" possible without joining the B1G.
  7. Let's look at the facts.... Oregon's 2023 Class Signed: 29 signed, Sixteen are 4/5-Stars with a Rivals class ranking of No. 9 in the nation. Washington's 2023 Class Signed: 21 signed, Six are 4/5-Stars with a Rivals class ranking of No. 24 in the nation. Oregon's 2024 Class of Verbals: 11 Commits, Seven are 4/5-Star with a Rivals ranking of No. 7 in the nation. Washington's 2024 Class of Verbals: 3 Commits, None are 4/5-Star, (three 3-Star) and a ranking of No. 58? Quotes on a Husky Site: "Are the recruiting rankings biased toward Oregon?" "...there is a profound bias in favor of rankings of Oregon liens as well as predictions toward Oregon commitments…" "Oregon gets preferential treatment in recruiting rankings and polls, it is what it is. Money talks in this world and they have plenty of it and anybody who thinks Phil doesn’t throw his power around to get what he wants is completely clueless to how college sports ( and the world for that matter) operate." "I think the bigger issue for Oregon classes appearing overrated is that their recruiting clout is strong with Nike influence and PK $, but their recruiting evaluation, player development and coaching has been somewhat average. So they sign classes that are better on paper than the on field results. We passed them over under Petersen and quickly did again under DeBoer. We also look stronger next season. As long as we hire top coaches I will let Oregon worry about the disconnect with star ratings vs team performance." "The actual talent at Washington will be significantly greater than the perceived talent at Oregon. This is certainly the case now with a roster that has a far lower recruiting rating at Washington outperforming a higher rated Oregon roster. All indications from both DeBoer's and Lanning’s performance to date are that this will continue moving forward until Lanning leaves." "I think Dan Lanning got protected by Smart at Georgia. I think he's overwhelmed as a head coach." Mr. FishDuck believes that once the classes of Chris Peterson play out--the talent level at Washington cannot be rescued by great coaching or opponent mistakes. Too big a gap...
  8. Amen. Oregon, with the 7th largest college fan base globally, (ahead of Alabama, LSU, Georgia, USC, Texas A&M, etc.) will be just fine where ever we land.
  9. To me, Texas Tech is still unproven, while with Oregon State...they have shown they belong, and the question is whether they can sustain it? Their recruiting class is ranked No. 59 for 2023 with only one 4/5-Star, and their recruiting in the portal was very few in numbers--which surprised me with all those leaving via graduation.
  10. This is rumor, and not a legit source--yet the discussion over at another site is going nuts. The implications are vast if true... --the beginning of the end of the Pac-12? --it pushes Oregon to take a pared down revenue stream to join the B1G? --the Pac-12 continues by adding San Diego State to replace Colorado? --perhaps a ten-way split is another solution to the revenue issue? A return to the Pac-10? As if this subject was not tiring enough for us, and now this?
  11. The line to wait for betting was long...completely out of the Truck Stops!
  12. This article, to me, is outstanding analysis. I planned to watch the Spring Game with eyes on the linebackers in terms of run-support, but now I will look for the coverage and the missed interceptions as well. Really good observations about the past, (which we knew) but tying into what we saw in April as a solution that most would have missed. Damn good stuff David, and I thank you! Justin Jacobs
  13. Yes, and his penalty cost us a touchdown at Washington when he lost his cool.
  14. We have discussed it extensively here for nearly a year--so much of it took place before you joined. Many have "fatigue" with the subject...
  15. Green face mask is my choice...but they are all good!
  16. Good receiver, not a great one. Does not have breakaway speed, but does have sure hands. Because his older brother was a star at USC and is now in the NFL...he has a much higher opinion of his abilities than they actually are. When he left Oregon...it was before Cristobal left, and his objections to the offense were justified at that time. But he will be a squeaky wheel, and if things don't go his way...(this is his THIRD school, and that tells you something too) He will be a good second-tier receiver for you, and with his experience could be valuable on key third downs. Pittman in 2019...
  17. I love being the underdog, while returning 15 starters and a TON of high-impact portal transfers. Let them promote the Huskies, (pardon me while I turn to spit) and the Trojans. It will make our season that much sweeter..
  18. Hello CamaroDMD, it is great to see you join us, and do post your thoughts often. WELCOME! As for your helmet question...whew! You stumped me, and I've been kind of a uniform junkie over the years. I agree with you in that I've seen the Apple-Green "O" on white practice, and the darker green "O" on white helmets such as the Dennis Dixon in your avatar I popped in for you. But a yellow "O"? I do not recall it at all. I have to assume that it either was a short-lived practice helmet, or it was an experiment for a while. About 17 years ago...a few players were practicing with a helmet that changed color when the light hit it...like a Mallard Duck head! It went from green to blue or vice-versa, and I wrote about it in one of my "Fish Reports" at that time, but it was an experiment that did not fly apparently. If you have another avatar you would prefer--email it to me, or email the link and I'll pop it in. Below are the "O" helmets I have given people as avatars over the years...no yellow on white! Fun topic to me, and it is cool you got down here, and acquired a fantastic coffee table conversation piece. (Although the wife may not approve, I DO!)
  19. Well....Marcus did not start that way, IMHO. I cannot tell you how many times in 2012, and even 2013...I would shout at the TV for Marcus to stay in the pocket and look downfield! Often, he would leave the pocket early and roll-out to his right, run out of room/receivers and throw the ball away. If he had waited longer... This is a common problem with young QBs, as it takes time to develop the pocket presence Marcus had in 2014.
  20. The tight end sure puts a ton of stress on the DE/OLB over him on the line of scrimmage. The defender has to fend off a block, and in the process makes it easy for the TE to peel off as he did. By the time the ILB comes over--it is too late. Get an athletic TE out there and you have the good gains we saw on that play. Some good pass plays can come from the Pistol, and I thank you Coach, for bringing them to us! Patrick Herbert is going to score!
  21. This looks pretty impressive...he throws an accurate long ball. Maybe that is why? He also throws a catchable pass for the crossing patterns, and boy can he outrun everyone...whew!
