Ty Thompson Enters Transfer Portal
Charles Fischer replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I found this article from seven years ago, where our Grizzled Ol' Coach told me at a spring scrimmage that Justin Herbert would Oregon's next First Round Draft pick. That article below was ridiculed, and people were laughing at the coach and I. Justin Hopkins of 247 Sports then, ScoopDuck now said of the article, "that is just plain silly." Ty Thompson Enters Transfer Portal
Charles Fischer replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
No, he was a 3-Star, and EVERYBODY on the team knew what Marcus was as he redshirted in 2011, as Oregon had a fantastic team, and a proven starter in Darron Thomas who took us to the 'Natty the year before in 2010. But Mariota's first Spring Game in 2012? REMEMBER when he exploded? That was not development, that was GREATNESS epitomized as a raw freshman, who then led the team and MM's presence forced Darron to declare for the draft. Please do not mistake being overlooked in the recruiting rankings a decade ago as not having uber-talent to begin with as Marcus did. Ditto with Herbert. Overlooked in the recruiting process, and came in and took the job his freshman year. He was great from the beginning. I am not denying that development takes place with QBs, but often you know early-on what the deal is. We actually Johnny Manziel and Marcus here at the same time in recruiting trips, and when Manziel heard that Marcus was coming here? Johnny wasn't. Khyree Jackson Declares for NFL Draft
Charles Fischer replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
No surprise, and is a great example of what a transfer can do for you. He played, but did not start at Alabama. Comes here, starts and flourishes to where he is now an NFL draft pick? I just wish he was not injured in the second half of the last game....- 1 reply

BREAKING: 4-Star WR Jordan Anderson Decommits from Oregon
Charles Fischer replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If you did--your fault. I've told you umpteen times, that 90-95% of the verbals stick, but we lose some, and we end up flipping someone else's. No surprise as it happens every year. But this is different, as we have lost two verbals recently because better options materialized, and our coaches stopped recruiting the players. The recruits figured it out, got to save-face by de-committing, and now we have the scholarship openings. Oregon will be fine with recruiting... -

Well Now! New Rumors About Dante Moore and OREGON...
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
BTW...I have not been a Moore fan this year, but Dano knows best. -
Not confirmed, but a ton of smoke. Dante now sees the value of a year of development, (He realizes that being CFB QB is harder than he thought it would be) and wants to go somewhere to learn, and OREGON is a candidate. Rumor is...they are trying to line up an official visit for him to Eugene for next weekend. This would be QUITE the QB room at Oregon! And yes, Ty Thompson has been informed before any of this occurred, and he is considering his choices at the moment. No. 3? I wonder how Joey would feel about that...

One MAJOR Issue With The Pay Window Model Proposed
Charles Fischer replied to Sunshine Larry's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I believe that was covered in the original article linked. All athletes would be paid. -
This article is extremely well researched, thought through, and written. I learned a ton from it and thank Mike (Grandpa Duck) for this article and some guest articles in the next month. Two retired attorneys writing for FishDuck.com back-to-back creates superb discussion and pondering. Thank you Jon Joseph and Mike Whitty Sr.!

BREAKING: 4-Star WR Jordan Anderson Decommits from Oregon
Charles Fischer replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
No, Oregon is after some HUGE WR portal transfers. If Dillon Gabriel comes here...who wouldn't want to come to Oregon and catch his passes? We will take fewer transfers this year, but they will be of high-quality, proven, and in spots of need. We need a proven speed-receiver... -
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon All-American Jackson Powers-Johnson was named the winner of the 2023 Rimington Trophy, presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I college football, on Friday night during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show. Also named Walter Camp first-team All-America during the show, Powers-Johnson leads all FBS centers in PFF pass-blocking grade (91.3), run-blocking grade (84.2) and overall grade (83.9). He was a two-time winner of the Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week, while also being named a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy. “We are very proud of Jackson for earning this outstanding honor as the best center in college football,” Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said. “This is something he has put a tremendous amount of effort towards, and combined with his special talents the results speak for themselves. Jackson has done a terrific job for us this season, both on the field and as a leader within our program. He has grown so much as both a player and a person and is incredibly deserving of this award.” The Ducks center led an offensive line that has been dominant in 2023 leading the nation with just five sacks allowed, four fewer than any other FBS team, while ultimately being named a finalist for the Joe Moore Award honoring the nation’s top offensive line. In addition to being named a first-team Walter Camp All-American, Powers-Johnson earned first-team All-America honors from CBS/247 Sports, The Athletic, Pro Football Focus, USA Today and the College Football Network earlier this week while also claiming Sports Illustrated second-team recognition. "There’s no one more deserving. I am proud of the work and leadership JPJ has shown since he stepped foot on campus," Oregon offensive line coach A'Lique Terry said. "I remember talking with his dad during his recruiting about this very moment and for him to be here a few years later as the Rimington Trophy winner is a testament to his consistent work ethic and mindset to be his best self daily. Thankful and proud of JPJ for helping lead our room all year and being consistent in his play of physicality and dominance no matter the circumstances, and it now leading to his recognition as the best center in the country. Forever grateful for JPJ." Powers-Johnson is the first Oregon center to win the Rimington Trophy. He joined Hroniss Grasu (2013, 2014) and Max Unger (2008) as finalists. 2023 Powers-Johnson Awards Rimington Trophy (Winner) Walter Camp All-America Team (First Team) CBS/247Sports All-America Team (First Team) The Athletic All-America Team (First Team) Pro Football Focus All-America Team (First Team) USA Today All-America Team (First Team) College Football Network All-America Team (First Team) Sports Illustrated All-America Team (Second Team) College Football Network Offensive Center of the Year All-Pac-12 Conference (First Team) Outland Trophy (Semifinalist) Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week (Weeks 4 & 13)

2023 Oregon Football: Agree on These Reflections?
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
For many who are new here...Jon Joseph as been a prolific writer over the 12 year history of FishDuck. I just looked it up and found that he has written an astounding 87 articles for FishDuck.com, and hundreds of posts on the forum! Good to have him back on the bridge of this starship... -
The NCAA Faces Reality from the Wall Street Journal

Not the marketing arm, but the major revenue source. Oregon Athletics does not make a profit; all football and the small Basketball revenues go to fund the other 17 sports. And according to a recent lawsuit--that isn't enough! -

Husky Hackers Hate OBD Forum and are STUNNED...
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well, I regard any game of Washington's as "good-or-good." If Washington wins, then it is good for the conference. If the Huskies lose? -
First of all...it is Charles Fischer, and second...how would I know? I get the same media announcements as all the other media sources, and I do not attend any of the news conferences since we are a no-profit, all-volunteer site. I have no inside access, and frankly--would not use it for this topic if I did. Any goodwill capital would be used for a significant inside tip--if that was possible, but it is not. I understand your passion for this topic, and welcome the discussion, but I have no inside information here. Sorry.

Of course we would have some Huskies who try to sign up to join the OBD forum in order to come in and gloat or insult us. I call fans like that, "Drive-by-Trolls," and you rarely see their work because of the wonderful moderators here who hide their posts from public view almost immediately. Because of a big Spammer attack recently--the new registration process now requires people to fill things out more extensively--and give me their story as an Oregon fan. It is more hassle-time for me required from the site, but you-have-to-do-what-you-have-to-do to keep the Spammers and Trolls out and protect the good people here. Sure enough, we had a few try to register recently that had bad intentions... Even then--people lie to you, get through, and you catch them once they write something. We had an LSU fan sign up because "Oregon is my second favorite team," which is something that is common. Of course once he got in--he was spewing stats on why Bo Nix should lose the Heisman to Daniels. But he was banned immediately... Then we have the Husky fans... The lies they told me about why they wanted to join was a good laugh, and the entertainment was worth the time wasted. But I did stun them with my description of all of you, and my parting message for them. I explained how all of us here really hate the Huskies, and I am truly one of the worst. But I explained the typical reaction from this unusual community about the result of the Pac-12 Championship, and below is what I sent them... "We hate the Huskies with a passion, and I’ve written many articles over the last dozen years immersed in that hatred. Yet at the end of the game—the vast majority on our board could not stand losing, but we gave Washington kudos for being the better team, and thus deserved their win." "I am going to decline your offer to join, and if you wish to write something nice about Dan Lanning as you stated and send it back—I will put it in the forum for you. In the meantime, you are welcome to bask in your win, as you should and we would too if we were in your position. I wish you great success against Texas, and look forward to continuing our rivalry next year in the B1G." Usually I receive no response, but one did with simply a...."wow!" I guess the fellowship with all of you and your classy conduct made an impression on me!

The good news about the Portal Transfer nonsense? Oregon is going to come out way ahead and win the majority of those battles! It part of recruiting…enjoy it!
