I personally am not comfortable with Moore coming here, as I believe in the young QB room we currently have, or coming for developing, and Gabriel as a band-aid.

5-Star OT Jordan Seaton Announces Surprise College Commitment
Charles Fischer replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Like what is happening to Texas A&M...he will be available again in a year! -
If football players are paid the amount you and they want...it will WIPE OUT nearly all minor sports and destroy Womens Athletics. The money in the athletic budgets is not there, and sports would be trimmed. I believe Oregon would go from 19 sports down to seven or eight for example. And we would have minority football players facing Olympic sport women in court. Is that what we want? Isn't a compromise for all parties reasonable?

What I like about this article is how it makes the proposal that could transform college football very simple to understand. My eyes glaze over with this stuff, but this could be the beginning of really solving the problems of college athletics now, and could head others off before we get there. 1) This could prevent player labor unions, and out-of-control NIL? Fair to the women as well? Something Congress may actually act on? 2) This is a great example of superb leadership, as this former governor is doing more already than all the leadership of the NCAA and our conference ever did to help us. (Greatness and Weakness Emerge Early?) 3) When many people here in the OBD forum were howling over the last two years about how college football was going to die--I asked everyone to be patient and see what would develop. Eventually the rubber-band gets stretched so far one direction that an eventual snap-back is bound to happen. Is this the beginning of that? NCAA's new proposal could help ensure its survival if Congress gets on board WWW.USATODAY.COM Charlie Baker's proposal would increase athlete compensation while potentially giving NCAA or conferences more ability to regulate NIL environment.

Civil War Renewed For 2024 And Beyond
Charles Fischer replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My objection is NOT over conference realignment. It is because they already have been overpaid millions for decades beyond their value to the conference, and now they fully intend to "take control of the conference" and take the 35 million Oregon earned in media dollars. You do not enable bad behavior. Give us what we earned, and then we talk about the games. -

Another demonstration of the stupidity by those who make decisions for us Oregon fans. You do NOT reward the attempt by Oregon State to steal 35 million in media revenue from Oregon...by scheduling to play them. Giving your approval to detestable behavior? Rob Mullens...have you lost your mind? The Civil War will NEVER be the same again. Never will the majority of fans go in with typical good-natured rivalry feelings. Fans like I who have been like that, a Platypus, now look on OSU fans who feel we are the reason for their demise as the scumbags they are. We do not want to be in each other's presence. How stupid can you be? No surprise that Corvallis is in on this, but how can you be so dense Rob Mullens?

Duck Fan Choice: Would You Rather...?
Charles Fischer replied to Ktmguy2018's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
There a couple of issues with choosing season tickets: --The bowl game is a one-time expense, but required donation for the season tickets and the costs of the tickets could easily go over $2,000 a year. EVERY year. Are you up for that kind on on-going expense? --The season tickets will most likely have a massive new fee associated with them to expand Autzen stadium to accommodate our B1G visitors. Years ago when the north side was expanded--I was hit with an extra $1,500 fee for my two tickets, and I would imagine it will be much higher this time around. I always want people to buy season tickets to support Oregon Athletics and cheer OBD on, but I also want you to have your eyes wide open as you make the decision. -
We have a signing coming up for the 2024 recruiting class that was the No. 1 JC prospect at any position, and we see him at corner. Offered by Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, Penn State and USC. They never want to look inward, at who is absolutely responsible for this... From the Oregonian--Letter to the Editor: "Everyone connected with Oregon Ducks football should be ashamed of themselves. They almost single-handedly ruined Oregon State football. They could have made a stand against the unbridled greed of college football and the broadcast networks. They could have recommitted to the survival of the Pac 12; if they had, then all the other remaining schools would have jumped on board. TV deals would have eventually been worked out to provide plenty of money to those programs. Instead, the Ducks caved, mortally wounding a terrific Beavers program. It’s shameful conduct on every level. If the Ducks think they will gain more of everything in the Big Ten, they are in for a rude awakening. Karma has a way of equalizing bad behavior. Karma is coming, and I for one will enjoy every minute of it." Jim Spurr, Cannon Beach ----------------------------------------------------------------- No, Jim, you are mistaken about the karma. It is here right now, and Oregon State is experiencing it for decades of terrible management while slopping up at the trough of Pac-12 Media Revenue. Beavers are Over-Valued, Over-Paid, Ungrateful and Unaccountable FISHDUCK.COM I am sick of the pretentious articles by John Canzano and other writers who portray the Beavers as the aggrieved party in the Pac-12 dissolution… You have a small following, and a poor brand. Now whose fault is that?

The Pain of Being a Superfan
Charles Fischer replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Boy do I hear you David. We try to be mature, to be philosophical about it. But damn...it hurts. I do take solace in that I'm not as wacko as the people I ban each year who go crazy when Oregon loses... But I'm close... -
Not to me. Bridges was a starter who improved over 2022, and then played a minor role in 2023. In the latter part of the season--he only played late in garbage time, or when there was injury. He wants to be a starter somewhere, and I cannot blame him for that. Oregon has really good corner talent emerging....

Transfer Portal Impact on QBs Recruited Out of High School?
Charles Fischer replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My opinion? No, I don't think we will always go to a portal QB in the future. We need a band-aid this year, and finding a great quarterback among high schoolers is hard. So Lanning will do what he does at all positions; recruit a ton of them and find our who is the best. Eventually a HS QB will develop and take the reins. We don't like Oregon going after portal QBs, yet if the Ducks do not have a good QB...we fans will be howling about how the coaches failed in talent evaluation, player development, planning ahead, etc. I think that roster management these days is a lot harder than it looks. -
Holy Crap! BIG QB Transfer Rumor...
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Often...yes. Oregon MUST have a great QB, and you don't know until you get the high school player here and see his development. Most will not pan out, thus, a portal transfer QB will be needed to fill the gaps. The rumor on another site is that the coaches are pleased with the upside of Novosad, and with Luke Moga--there is talent to develop and see how they turn out. If one of them does, (and I include TT in this) then a portal transfer will not be needed in the future. But we need one now, and a Dillon Gabriel or Cam Ward can make us a contender immediately for 2024. Or...I am completely clueless, don't have any idea what the coaches are thinking, and am just spouting my opinion, is all. -
I was holding my breath as bowl selections were taking place. For Georgia to left OUT of the Playoff? And they were No. 1? I did NOT want to face them, as whoever does was going to get their wrath...whew! So they place Florida State as the foe? The two passed-over teams? That bowl matchup just elicits so much pain from me. Seminoles are in big trouble... Florida State does not know what they are playing with...

Oregon Craft Beer IPAs are always the heart of every analysis of games we lose. I spent an hour and a half with DazeNconfused tonight haggling it out. Fun and frustrating. I will have an article about the three major issues that resulted in losing that game--in the future. But I need more healing/beer first... This is really good... (And it has always been, and will always be FishDuck)

Holy Crap! BIG QB Transfer Rumor...
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It is possible that things are already in place, and they are waiting a day or two so as to avoid the appearance of "tampering?" -
I think the defense could’ve played a ton better. Washington only punted once, and our defense only made three stops the entire game.

Well, Gabriel was a Heisman candidate until he got hurt temporarily, while playing Kansas and that upset.
