  1. As I wrote....I understand it was humor, and you did not break any rules. But what I've learned in the short 2.5 months of the forum already, is that people will take something and run further with it. And I simply wanted to remind everyone that being critical, negative and even humorous is fine. Just not nasty-personal is all. In fact yesterday yours-truly posted a humorous set of pictures about Lanning too. So, no it was not a violation, but a reminder to everyone else not to escalate it into something personal against our new coach.
  2. OK, there are exaggerations, and then there is over-the-top! I don't think any choice of OC by Lanning is going to have us wistful for the days of the "Pistol-Plunge." But I understand your concern, and appreciate you bringing your views to us. I do want to see them all! (Only not over-and-over-and-over-and-over as some of us are prone to do.)
  3. Way to go! Beat me to it....and here is some tasty tidbits from the media guide. --Since N'Faly Donte rejoined the team--he is shooting over 70% from the field! --Frank Kepnang shot over 70% in this last game, and what appears to be a break-out one for him offensively. Beat the 'Furd!
  4. Everyone....please remember that Rule No. 26 right here states that we can criticize a coach for decisions, for player performance....we can go crazy-negative about their job, but we do NOT get personal about them. I know this is a joke, (above) but for those who disagree with this hire--I wanted to remind you of this.
  5. C'mon guys....you are skeptical about a guy who had a massive scoring offense at Memphis, and who as Auburn OC put the most points (48) on a Nick Saban defense ever. Being thrown in the Florida State dumpster fire would take anyone a while to rebuild.
  6. You are new on the forum, but over on the FishDuck site for articles...we had three articles about the GoGo Offense potentially being at Oregon... We have this one, and then this one, and finally this one. I think it could shake things up...
  7. Principal Duck....I am way behind in welcoming new members, and there are many I have not, due to being so busy. But do post your thoughts often and WELCOME!
  8. (From Oregon Athletics Press Release) EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon women's basketball team led most of the afternoon and finished with its best quarter of the game to hand Long Beach State its first loss of the season Saturday, 68-59 in Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks (5-3) were playing for the first time in a week after taking final exams over the previous five days, and they were rusty at the start Saturday. But they were at their best in the fourth quarter, shooting 50 percent with a 13-8 advantage on the boards, pulling away for the win despite also shooting 50 percent on free-throw attempts. "Second half we were a little bit better, especially on the boards, on the hustle plays," UO coach Kelly Graves said. "Still a few letdowns defensively, but they're a good team obviously — (came in) 7-0. …. Obviously we could have done a better job at the free-throw line late in the game, separated maybe a little earlier. But you've got to give it to those guys, they play hard." Oregon played its fifth straight game without injured starters Nyara Sabally, Te-Hina Paopao and Endyia Rogers. Graves said none will be available when the Ducks return to action against McNeese State on Monday, but they're hopeful Rogers and possibly Sabally can play in games next week at Kansas State and Northwestern. How It Happened: Long Beach State, which is among the most efficient defensive teams in the country while playing at one of the slowest paces, set the tone early. Beach's third three-pointer of the opening quarter gave them a 15-14 lead late in the period, before Sedona Prince sent Oregon into the quarter break into the lead on one of her patented turnaround jumpers. The Ducks went nearly four minutes to open the second quarter without scoring, before Maddie Scherr hit a three-pointer to get them within 20-19. Ahlise Hurst followed with one of her five three-pointers in the game for a 22-22 tie, and Sydney Parrish scored consecutive UO baskets to put Oregon up 28-26. Scherr got to the basket just before the halftime buzzer, and the Ducks led 30-26. Baskets by Kylee Watson, Prince and Hurst on three straight possessions early in the third put Oregon up 37-31. The Ducks then committed three turnovers as Beach rallied to lead 40-39. But Prince put back her own miss to regain the lead for Oregon and spark a 9-3 UO run to close out the quarter for a 48-43 lead. The run included a step-back three-pointer as the shot clock was expiring by Hurst. "That's what important players do — they make those baskets in key moments," Graves said. Chanaya Pinto, who drew two charges earlier in the game, scored Oregon's opening basket of the fourth quarter. Later, she rebounded a missed free throw to keep alive a possession that ended with Parrish hitting a three-pointer for a 56-47 lead. Beach had one last surge, closing within 57-54, but Pinto ended that run by getting to the hoop again, and the Ducks led by at least four the rest of the way. Who Stood Out: Scherr continued to shoulder a huge load in the absence of Paopao and Rogers, handling the ball much of the night on her way to 12 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. Hurst led the Ducks in scoring with 19 points, and Pinto added eight points with five rebounds in 21 minutes. Watson had nine points and seven rebounds, and she was Oregon's leader for the game in plus/minus at plus-18 for the game. She also blocked two shots, as did Prince, who finished with seven points and eight rebounds. What It Means: The Ducks capped a rigorous academic week by winning their second straight game while short-handed. Beach's constantly changing defenses took a while to get a handle on, Graves said, but in the end Oregon found a way. "Down the stretch we made the plays, especially defensively," Graves said. "That's what good teams gotta do." Up Next: The Ducks host McNeese State on Monday at 6 p.m.
  9. I suspect it was the result of the give-and-take in negotiations? Our OC who was hired as HC at Akron is returning to coach our bowl game...
  10. No sweat. Any feedback you can give is welcome, although I can never understand why a fan who is not of the school would want to come onto a forum of another. But as long as you follow our strict rules--you are good. Thanks for your thoughts.
  11. This is interesting....a good Duck-Buddy just sent this to me with the question..."did Oregon just hire Dan Lanning, or Actor Karl Urban?" (Eye-Candy fun for the females here...)
  12. Amen. Me too! What a fun offseason this is going to be! And for people who like to ponder, (as we do on this site) there are so many subjects and tangents. Great fun coming!
  13. A number of articles posted here have stated that Lanning will coach Georgia in the Playoff. I do not know what that looks like or his staff. Guessing is my best at this point...
  14. Good gosh...how can you not be impressed? Remember...for most of recent years--Georgia was not much of a destination and was not that great at recruiting. But Kirby Smart works recruiting hard as he learned (as Cristobal did) from Saban. Now Lanning has the fire too? New Oregon HC Dan Lanning Recruiting Track Record by Jared Mack of Duck Territory 247
  15. (Official Press Release from Oregon Athletics) EUGENE, Ore. — University of Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens announced the hiring of Dan Lanning as the 35th head football coach in program history on Saturday, bringing one of college football’s brightest young coaches and top defensive minds to Eugene. Lanning will be officially introduced at a press conference at 2:00 p.m. PT on Monday in the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex. The press conference will be streamed live on the Oregon Football Twitter and Facebook pages, as well as the GoDucks YouTube page. “Dan is an outstanding, high-energy football coach who will provide a world-class experience for our football student-athletes,” Mullens said. “He is a tremendous recruiter and developer of talent, and we will continue to compete for championships while providing an environment where our football student-athletes can develop to their fullest potential in the classroom, on the football field, and as people. We are grateful for the opportunity to have Dan as the leader of our football program, and we look forward to the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes. We are excited to welcome Dan, Sauphia, Caden, Kniles, and Titan to the Oregon family!” Lanning has spent the last four seasons at Georgia, including the last three as defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach, directing the top defense in the nation in 2021 while helping guide the Bulldogs to a 12-1 record and a spot in the College Football Playoff. In three seasons with Lanning coordinating the defense, Georgia leads the country in combined scoring defense (13.5 points per game) and rushing defense (76.7 yards per game), while also ranking No. 2 in total defense (280.6 yards per game). “I am honored and humbled to be selected to lead one of the premier programs in the nation at the University of Oregon,” said Lanning. “I want to personally thank President Schill, the Board of Trustees, athletic director Rob Mullens, and Mr. and Mrs. Knight for their trust in me. I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and get to work with our players in the pursuit of championships." “It is clear there is a vision and alignment within the entire Duck Nation. We are staged for success and look forward to building on the strong foundation that currently exists in Eugene. Our goal is to win championships and develop our players both on and off the field. I am overwhelmed with gratitude to Coach Kirby Smart and his wife, Mary Beth, and to every player, coach, staff member, and person at the University of Georgia who contributed to our success, I thank you. Go Ducks!” A two-time finalist for the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach, Lanning joined Georgia in 2018 as outside linebackers coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator. Lanning first joined the collegiate ranks as a graduate assistant at Pittsburgh in 2011, and has also had stints at Arizona State (2012-13), Sam Houston State (2014), Alabama (2014), and Memphis (2016-17). Lanning has helped the Bulldogs win three SEC Eastern Division titles (2018-19, 2021) and reach four consecutive New Year’s Six bowl games – the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2018 and 2019, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in 2020, and the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and College Football Playoff semifinal this season. Lanning’s Georgia defense leads the nation in scoring defense this season by a wide margin at an astounding 9.5 points per game, on track to become the first team since Alabama in 2011 to allow fewer than 10.0 points per game in a season. The Bulldogs are also No. 1 in the FBS in red-zone defense while ranking second in total defense (253.2 YPG), and third in both rushing (81.69 YPG) and passing (171.5YPG ) defense. Georgia also led the nation in scoring defense (12.6 PPG) in 2019, Lanning’s first year as defensive coordinator. The Bulldogs led the country in rushing defense in both 2019 (74.6 YPG) and 2020 (72.3 YPG), and they set a school record with an FBS-best two rushing touchdowns allowed in 2019. Georgia ranked third in total defense (275.7 YPG) in 2019. Lanning has coached some of the top defensive players in all of college football at Georgia. Defensive tackle Jordan Davis recently won the Chuck Bednarik Award as the best defensive player in the country and the Outland Trophy as the top interior lineman, and Nakobe Dean won the Butkus Award as college football’s best linebacker. Linebacker Azeez Ojulari led the SEC in sacks in 2020 under Lanning before going on to be selected in the second round by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lanning joined Georgia after two seasons at Memphis, where he served as inside linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped the Tigers to their third 10-win season in program history and a pair of top-five national finishes in turnovers gained. In 2015, Lanning helped Alabama go 14-1 and win the College Football Playoff national championship as a defensive graduate assistant working with the linebackers. Lanning assisted a Crimson Tide defense that led the nation in rushing defense (75.73 YPG) while ranking second in scoring defense (15.1 PPG) and third in total defense (276.3 YPG). Lanning was the defensive backs coach and co-recruiting coordinator at Sam Houston State in 2014, joining the Bearkats after spending 2012 and 2013 at Arizona State. For the Sun Devils, Lanning started as a defensive graduate assistant for outside linebackers and nickelbacks before spending his second season as the on-campus recruiting coordinator. A native of North Kansas City, Mo., Lanning began his coaching career in 2008 at Park Hill South High School in Missouri, spending three seasons coaching special teams, defensive backs and wide receivers before going to Pittsburgh as a graduate assistant. Lanning spent his playing days as a linebacker at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., earning two Bachelor of Science degrees in physical education and secondary education in 2008. Lanning and his wife, Sauphia, have three sons – Caden, Kniles, and Titan.

  17. I like this article the best; good facts and some good conclusions. "Just like Mario Cristobal, Lanning is a top-tier recruiter, but he may actually be a better Xs and Os coach if he’s paired with the right offensive coordinator." 20. Yep...I can hear the gnashing of teeth all the way in Eugene. Did I hear a "damn those Ducks!" among that gnashing? When you try to keep up with Oregon...
  21. Perfect. We lose McKinley and replace him with another talented, experienced safety!
  22. Thanks, and it looks like we will not need an interim coach after all!
