  1. Dillon Gabriel - Oklahoma Sooners Quarterback - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM View the profile of Oklahoma Sooners Quarterback Dillon Gabriel on ESPN. Get the latest news, live stats and game highlights. Stay healthy (knock wood) and Dillion will break Bo's record for the number of starts by a college QB. To date, Dillon has thrown 125 TD passes and thrown for over 10,000 yards. Gabriel, not Texas's Quinn Ewers, or K State's, now at Ohio State, Will Howard, was the 2023 1st team All-B12 QB. Has a QB who was P4 all conference ever transferred to another program? I doubt it. At Oklahoma Dillon played under OC Jeff Lebby, now the HC at Mississippi State. Like Will Stein, Lebby runs an RPO-heavy O. One of the takeaways from the spring game was how well James and Harris ran the ball. The WRs are legit. The TE, with a few drops in the game but no biggie, is in great hands with Ferguson and deep with Sadiq and Herbert. I cannot wait to watch DG play behind one of the better OLs in CFB and I think he has a great chance to equal or exceed Bo's 2023 numbers.

  4. The Athletic likes what Ohio State has pulled from the portal. How Ohio State won the college football offseason with a new NIL approch THEATHLETIC.COM Inside Ohio State's newfound aggressive approach to talent acquisition and retention after three consecutive losses to rival Michigan. Did tOSU 'win' the portal off-season? Very debatable IMO. 247 Sports does not have the Buckeyes close to No. 1. Ole Miss is No. 1 and OBD is 2nd. Ohio State is 8th. However, like Michigan last season, tOSU used NIL to return all highly-ranked projected draft choices other than WR Marvin Harrison. 2024 and likely many seasons thereafter will see a B1G Battle of the Os.
  5. With a 12-team playoff, does a team schedule up OOC, or schedule down? The same questions apply to the B1G as apply to the SEC but with nine conference games instead of eight the concerns are not on par. SEC nonconference scheduling, like the conference schedule, is in flux THEATHLETIC.COM SEC teams' nonconference scheduling is in a holding pattern while they wait to see what the conference schedule format will be.
  6. Number 6, or perhaps number 1, the schedule. Ohio State has the 57th most difficult 2024 schedule; Oregon's schedule is ranked the 11th most difficult. Before the champ game in Indianapolis on 12/2, the Ducks have no control over the outcome of SC's and Penn State's record. Penn State misses Michigan and like Oregon, plays Ohio State at home. SC misses Ohio State and Oregon and plays Penn State and Wisconsin in LA. Great take and I am glad to see that you included SC in the mix. I do not believe Iowa is a true contender but the Hawkeyes and Wisconsin have approximately the same odds to win the Big Ten in 2024.
  7. Yahoo Sports article on B1G 2024 out-of-conference games. "Most bitter game during the 2024 season? Easy winner: Oregon at Oregon State." 12. Solar, good point. But being the 11th team in the field instead of sitting on the bench will mean millions of dollars for a conference's coffers. You can bet the house that fans of teams that finish barely out of the 12-team field, especially SEC fans, will not be going silently into that good night. Differences in schedule strength including OOC games and in-conference will give disgruntled fans reason to beef. And the teams most likely to be impacted will be B1G and SEC teams. The settlement of the House case should it happen, will materially ramp up the cost of participation for every athletic department. Playoff revenues will matter. I expect that down the road, teams that make the playoffs and earn the money will receive a greater slice of the revenue than conference teams that do not qualify. This is already the case in the ACC. House has the potential to sink the NCAA. It's fitting because Grant House was a swimmer at ASU. (Sorry!) Giving the ACC and B12 champs seeding preference with the two being seeded in the top 4 and receiving a first-round bye even if they win the conference title with an 8-5 record, and even if they have a comparative lousy SOS will, I hope, lead to a 16-team field in 2026 with the top 16, except a G5 participant not in the top 16, and seeded according to the committee's final ranking (if a committee is still making the rankings.)
  13. NJ - great insight regarding the current rankings. At the end of the day does anyone expect that Syracuse and Wake Forest among other "leaders" will finish in the Top 25? That Georgia will finish 14th? That Oregon will finish 21st? The Ducks will sign more than six players in the 2025 class. Notre Dame is No. 1 with 20 players 'committed' and a score of 255.65. Ohio State is 2nd with 13 players 'committed' and a score of 255.56, a .09 difference. Seeing as how it is the month of May, which team is ahead? Ranking the portal picking as of today's date is incisive. Ranking the 2025 class is as silly as ranking nine SEC teams, with the lowest ranked No.19, in a much-too-early Top 25.
  14. Ohio State according to someone named Jesse Simonton of On3 Sports, has ranked Ohio State with the best RB room and excluded Alabama from his top 10. This resulted in the following reasonable response by the Bama Hammer site: Bama fans are livid, On3 failed miserably, Fans are right to call foul, ranking is not backed by solid facts, Bama fans in agreement with this nonsense ranking - Zero! I post this first to give the Buckeyes the proper respect and to point out that college football down south is not an enjoyable pastime, it is a religion. Fans and journalists who question any aspect of the religion do not have differing opinions, they are heretics. It will be very interesting to watch our OBD beefed up as of yesterday, defense go against the Buckeyes. I'll be watching the game with rapt and anxious attention and hoping, of course, that the Ducks win. Oregon as of today is -1.5 which means that Autzen is not getting the full 3-point home field bump. Ohio State, with the 57th most difficult schedule in the country, is the favorite to win the B1G title at -165. Oregon with the 11th most difficult schedule, is 2nd at -210. But win or lose, I will not be heading to Disney World, buying drinks for the house, asking my son to rename my recent grandchild 'Baby Duck,' sacrificing any fauna to coach Dan, rendering my garments, tearing my hair out, wearing sackcloth, or poisoning any nearby flora. SEC fans, not you Vandy fans, it's a Game, OK? Alabama football fans are livid about On3's top running back units BAMAHAMMER.COM An adage states opinions are so plentiful, they are worth a dime a dozen. That everyone is entitled to have one makes them no more valuable. I am a fan of the
  15. HUZZAH! Charles's guy joins the flock. No wonder Ben Roberts flew away from the nest. Two transfers of two B1G body guys who will 'start' and provide a great rotation on D. Critical with 8 games in a row and the expanded playoff field. Way to go Danno!
  16. USC is ranked No. 20 in this ranking. I agree with you. The USC overall schedule is ranked one of if not the, toughest schedule in the country but this is due to SC playing LSU and Notre Dame OOC. SC misses Oregon and Ohio State and plays Penn State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin in LA. The Trojans play 5 conference road games, the first one vs Michigan in Ann Arbor, but the other four are against Minnesota, Maryland, UW, and UCLA. I believe that USC is a threat to reach the conference champ game with one of Oregon/Ohio State certain of a loss when tOSU visits Oregon on 10/12, the same date SC plays Penn State. In 2025 SC opens at home vs. Ole Miss. SC again misses Ohio State (I can't believe Fox is allowing this) and plays Oregon in Eugene.
  17. DM, a terrific idea to lose the conference champ games. The teams that reach and play in the conference champ game, win, and receive a 1st-round bye will play 16 games. The loser of the conference champ games and the at-large teams will play 17 games. And a conference champ game could knock out a team with a shot at the 8th through 11th seed which will cost a conference millions of dollars. But ESPN and Fox would have to agree to eliminate the conference champ games and would likely want to lower the current media deals with a conference champ game. These games draw large audiences in the SEC and the B1G. But, this could be tit-for-tat for expanding the field to 16 teams. Another thought I have had that pales beside your idea is to play a 'real' spring game vs. an FCS opponent that would count as the first game of the 12-game regular season. The little guy gets paid and no FCS teams are allowed to be on a Power 4 schedule. Something has to be adjusted. In an article on CBS yesterday, Dennis Dodd and the CFB folks he interviewed wonder if projected high draft picks will sit out playoff games! They also wondered if NIL deals are predicated on a player participating in every game if the player is healthy. This concern is another reason why I expect to see playoff revenue shared with the players. In 2026 I will not be surprised to see a 16-team field with the two teams in the champ game playing four post-season games and the top eight seeds playing at least one home game. The playoff field has expanded but I believe this will give the committee a more difficult task than did the 4-team playoff.
  18. Complications that will result in a different playoff format come 2026.
  19. Where was the concern when Larry was running amok? With a settlement of the House case likely and the attendant direct pay-for-play agreement, every athletic department cent is precious. You do not give up home games and you should not bend over for teams the market has passed over. I'm disappointed but not surprised, that these types of questions were not asked.
  20. Thanks, Steven. Nine SEC teams ranked in the Top 25, with five in the Top 10. The lowest-ranked SEC team is A+M at 19. This just in, it's only eight conference games but SEC teams play one another. Six B1G teams ranked. Iowa has the 22nd most difficult strength-of-schedule (SOS) in 2024 but I believe Iowa will finish in the Top 25 and knock out at least one of the five B12 teams that are ranked. Using this Top 25, the following would be the 2024-25 Playoff seeding with a team's SOS (per College Football News) noted next to the team. 1. Georgia - 21 2. Ohio State - 57 3. FSU - 31 4. Utah - 37 5. OREGON - 11 6. Texas - 38 7. Alabama - 16 8. Ole Miss - 45 9. Michigan - 5 10. Notre Dame - 43 11. Missouri - 66 12. G5 Five SEC teams are in the field with SEC teams hosting three of the four 1st-round games. Missouri with its 66th SOS would knock out a 4th B1G team, Penn State with its 14th most difficult SOS. If the two teams had the same record, Penn State should get the nod. Would it? What if MIZZOU finishes 10-2 and Penn State finishes 9-3? Should Missouri with one more win against easier competition and playing eight and not nine conference games automatically get the 11th seed with Penn State left out? This would be a multi-million dollar benefit for the SEC due, at least in part, to Missouri's easier schedule. FSU with an SOS of 31 and Utah with an SOS of 37 knock out Penn State? And have a first-round bye in the bargain? CUSA conference champion Liberty finishes 13-0 with the 134th-ranked SOS knocks out Penn State? The 12th-seed Flames would be back-to-back cannon fodder for the 5th-seed Ducks, this time playing in Eugene and not in Arizona. Let's not ignore the situation in the B1G. Ohio State with the 57th SOS has a huge leg up over B1G title contenders - No. 1 USC, No. 5 Michigan, No. 11 Oregon, No. 14 Penn State, No. 18 Wisconsin, and No. 22 Iowa. Ohio State as SEC fans would no doubt be first in line to point out has an easier SOS than all SEC contenders other than Missouri. I know that I harp on the matter of schedule strength. But with today's 16, 17 (plus 5/12th of the Domers,) and 18-team conferences, intra-conference scheduling, and the number of conference games played, will make a difference. A millions of dollars difference. There is no professional playoff that allows teams that played fewer games against top competition to compete for a championship. With millions of dollars at stake and players likely to be paid by revenue sharing, the Committee had best recognize SOS. Also, come 2026, the reliance on bowls, except for the semifinal and champ games, should go away in favor of at least two rounds of home games. This is a PLAYOFF. There is no reason to use bowls that for the most part are located in Dixie and benefit southern teams playing in Dixie. IMO, preseason rankings should look to December 3, 2024, the date the committee will seed the field. And any ranking that does not consider scheduling, is, IMO, worthless. Thanks again for the post.
  21. SOS should matter. But will it matter? SEC already counting its 9-3 chickens? 22. Updated take on settlement discussions and the cost of settlement and revenue sharing. It appears the price tag for the settlement and revenue sharing will be $30M or more per athletic department. Schools may not want or be able to meet the financial requirements. Schools will be left behind, sports cut, and salaries likely cut. This article was posted the same day that Kirby Smart's new salary was announced. Kirby at a base salary of $13M per annum is now CFB'c highest paid head coach. 24. The following was reported by The Athletic (paywall) on May 2nd. If anyone doubts that there is a Power 2, in 2023-24 105 games drew 3M + viewers. 85 of these games, 81%, featured the 18-team B1G and the 16-team SEC teams. 20 games drew 8M+ viewers. 19 of these games, 95%, featured B1G and SEC teams. The other game was Colorado State at Colorado. In my opinion, the Power 2's receiving 55.5% of the Playoff revenue is fair; eminently fair. 2024's Top 10 Conference Games 1. 11/30 Michigan at Ohio State 2. 10/12 Ohio State at Oregon 3. 11/2 Oregon at Michigan 4. 11/2 Ohio State at Penn State 5. 9/21 USC at Michigan 6. 10/12 Penn State at USC 7. Also on 9/21 UCLA at LSU; this is an idle week for Oregon before the game at UCLA on 9/28. I was surprised to see the Pac-2 games ranked at T-4 by The Athletic. I expect Notre Dame at USC and UCLA at LSU will have more viewers, by far, than will 'The Civil War' and the 'Apple Cup' games. The Domers at Troy and the Bruins in Baton Rouge will be on B1G Boy TV and not on CW. Let's Get It On! 8/31 The Vandals Come a Callin'.
