Busy Lanning
If Smart starts Daniels vs UM and in the rematch vs Bama, say hello to the DC of the national champion coming out west to coach Oregon.
-
Guys, did we just hire...
Folks, if Smart gets smart and starts Daniels vs Michigan and against Bama in the champ game, we will be welcoming the DC of the 2021 national champion as Oregon's new HC. Smart staying with Stetson, who was locked onto Bowers, ignored open WRs and missed easy throws, was as silly as Mario staying with Brown in the Pac-12 champ game. Stetson is a game manager. Daniels is a 5* who can spread the field. My bad for not recalling DeRuyter being hired by TT. IMO, he will not be missed.

Guys, did we just hire...
Man so many of these comments regarding the hire of Lanning and the guys he plans to hire are IMO far too negative. Of course there is risk in hiring a young guy with no HC experience but there is also, with the way the man recruits, a terrific upside. I urge patience in 2022. Mario left the Ducks with no experience at QB. I dearly hope a new system is going to be installed on O and if he stays, that DeRuyter does a far better job with the D. The schedule in 2022 is BRUTAL. 'At' UGA OOC plus BYU at home? 5 conference road games. For anyone who wants to take me up on it, I'll wager on Lanning have more success at Oregon than Mario will have at the U.

The Big Question: Who's Going to Make the Offense go at Oregon?
I get it. But in my case it's hard to feel too sorry for a guy who just got a 'half decent' bump in pay? And a great opportunity at his age. With an inexperienced QB, OOC games 'at' UGA and versus BYU and 5 conference road games, I don't think 11 wins is a reasonable bench mark in 2022? In 2023 the 'big' OOC game is at Texas Tech and both the coach and team will be more experienced. This is the year I think a run to the playoff can be expected.

OC
So far he has taken his team to the playoff the same number of times the entire Pac-12 conference has been to the playoff. And, he lost in OT to Bama in the 1st appearance.

Despite Insider Chaos, Oregon Hires Georgia’s Dan Lanning
Thanks Brother.
-
Strength and conditioning coach.
As you so correctly noted Cochran left Bama in part because at UGA he is also an assistant coach and not just the S+C coach. It was also an in-your-face move from Smart to Saban. Not sure Oregon can come close to matching Cochran's salary.

Play a new QB in San Antonio
PLEASE! Senseless to do anything else.

OC
Per ESPN, Brady wants to remain in the NFL. How about Art Briles kid? His father is deservedly finished in CFB but his son, beginning under Kiffin at FAU, has been one heck of an OC.

Despite Insider Chaos, Oregon Hires Georgia’s Dan Lanning
30, any idea how Lanning showed up on the Ducks radar screen?

Oregon v Georgia - 1 & Done?
A number of us have beefed about this game for quite sometime. A $3M money grab that is PO scheduling senseless as the Ducks also play BYU OOC. Mario left the Ducks prepared for this game by playing a 6 year gutty but mediocre QB all season long. Maybe Lanning can bring JT Daniels with him?

Despite Insider Chaos, Oregon Hires Georgia’s Dan Lanning
Thank you Jordan. Good article and a good read. Hope the hire pans out? Mullens is putting it all on the line with this hire. Hope the reward will follow the risk? Do you know? Was it the search firm that first came up with Lanning's name? Seems odd that Mullens or anyone else at Oregon would have a reason to contact Lanning?

Lousy Hire
Because of all the titles Oregon has won in football? I'm not sure you are being objective my friend?
-
Lousy Hire
Check the PO Committee's final top 25 and the current AP basketball top 25. Academics? 4 out of 14 SEC member schools are AAU members but they win titles in football. Texas is an AAU school and is not bowl eligible this season. Academics? What kind of take does the nation have when they tune in an empty Stanford stadium and many half full stadiums?
-
Lousy Hire
Fickell is headed to the 'new B12' which at the close of 2021, is a better conference in both football and basketball than is the Pac-12. IMO not expanding and wiping out the B12 was a terrible business decision on the part of the conference. I do not view this hire in the same vein.
-
Lousy Hire
Is there anyone out there better prepared to lead the Ducks vs UGA in Atlanta next season? He comes from the toughest conference in America and he is a heck of a recruiter. Fickell was never going to leave Ohio for Oregon; especially, when Cincy is now in the B12. The Pac-12 is 2 for 8 in the playoff. The Pac-12 has only 6 bowl eligible teams. The Pac-12 was killed OOC last season. The Pac-12 is saddled with a functionally insolvent network. Oregon is a very good but not an elite/blue blood coaching job. Elite facilities? Yes. But how many 4 and 5 star recruits does the state of Oregon produce every season? And frankly over Mario's tenure for the most part we were treated to pedestrian, play down to the level of your opponent, boring football. Not the flash and dash brand that took Oregon and NIKE a lot of time and money to build. We will of course see if he is up to the task? But I think this was a bold and correct hire.

Oregon Players Respond on Twitter...
Coaching through post season? If Smart starts Daniels at QB Lanning could be coming to Eugene with a Natty?

Canzano: "Oregon Shooting BIG, Even Into the Great Unknown"
WOW! 35 years old. If he is committed to Oregon he could be on the sideline for many a moon. Love the guy's history. He is a competitor who bet on himself.

Ducks Wire: "Who IS Dan Lanning?"
Great post Charles, thank you. Is Lanning staying with UGA throughout the playoff? Kirby Smart brought in Todd Monken and 'modernized' the Dawgs O. Will be most interesting to see who Lanning hires as his OC? Obviously he needs Left Coast guys on the staff? Charles, what assistant coaches, if any, do you think Lanning will keep?

Its Done! With Class! CBS Sports Explanation of Lanning/Oregon
I hope he is the Man. Barrett Sallee, who went to Auburn, is one heck of a writer and not one to spew rumors. I say Spot On!

What Kind of Recruiter is Lanning?
How about JT Daniels?

Mike Bellotti: Why Not a One-Year Interim Coach?
As once, did I. I'm guessing he resides in the golf mecca Pronghorn?
-
Lanning? A HUGE Gamble.
If you are going to hire an assistant why not a guy from the SEC? A guy who has one heck of D this season. A guy let down vs Bama because Smart never put Daniels in the game. Smart also screwed up with the manner in which he mishandled Justin Fields. I would be very happy with tis hire and even more happy if he brings UGA OC Todd Monken with him. Start Daniels? If so, I think UGA defeats Michigan and then wins the rematch vs Bama. The guy is not only an outstanding D coach but unlike Chip he can recruit.

LET'S GO BOWLING!
If I have one postseason game to recommend, it's BYU -7 vs UAB. The coach has just been granted a long term extension. BYU has a national following and Cougars fans will show up. Not one BYU player has dropped out of this game. BYU took a risk leaving the MW conference, It is about to be rewarded with membership in the B12, a competitor the Pac-12 could have destroyed.
