Great Article! Coach Dan Lanning Arrives in Eugene: "I Feel Like the Luckiest Man on Earth"
Interesting that one of his best DBs, Ringo, is from Tacoma.

I agree with your thoughts; however, if Ty could not not beat out Brown?

9 B1G Teams Wear Nike Gear - Uncle Phil?
Significant that Michigan is dropping Adidas and like Ohio State, will be wearing NIKE gear. Uncle Phil, if you have B1G commissioner Warren's phone number please call him and make another sale to the Big 10? After all, your alma mater is an AAU member school.

Personally, I am very happy that we will not be watching Act 2 of Chip in Eugene.

Recruiting Getting Hurt?
Early signing day means it is better to get rid of the existing coach sooner rather than later. Mario should have had the sack to leave when he mentally checked out.

Great post. Thank you. He talks the talk. Hoping, unlike Mario, he will walk the walk Including 'airing it out.'

Dexter New Blood: Any Fans?
AMEN! How did he get from Oregon to northern New York? How did his son find him? But I am glad Dexter is back.

Read These and Weep- the Pac-12 Continues its Deep Dive
A good point. But there are 12 teams in a conference that produced 6 bowl teams in 2021. Not all of 2 and 3 star recruits will be coached up. Looking at the OOC schedules in 2022, I will be surprised if the conference wins the majority of its OOC games. And continuing to play 9 conference games does not help the cause.

Analysis: Is Dan Lanning an Upgrade from Mario Cristobal?
Great take. Playing 'at Georgia' and playing BYU OOC next season with a newbie at QB running a new system? And 2022 is Oregon's year to have 5 conference road games.

SC's Kedon Slovis has also entered the portal. Makes me think that Rattler or Williams could end up at SC?

247 Sports - Recruiting rankings 1 week prior to early signing day - 9. Stanford - Maybe Shaw is again serious about his team's performance? 15 Oregon - THIS is to be expected with Cristobal crawling away. Banks, along with QB Quinn Ewers, have both chosen Texas 37 Arizona - A good look for Coach Fisch but not for the conference 40 UCLA - Right in Chip's wheelhouse 46 Colorado - The Buffs since leaving the B12 have been a CFB after thought 49 Oregon State - This is a big improvement by J Smith who undoubtedly will also pick from the portal 50 Utah - Many Poly kids are underrated. Utah coach's its players up. Portal transfer Cam Rising is the Pac-12 QB of the year. Whit knows how to work the portal. 63 CAL - Tough place to recruit to. Strawberry Canyon is a CFB graveyard. 66 UW - To be expected with a coaching change but the numbers were not good to begin with. QB Haener has decided to stay at Fresno with Coach Tedford. In 2022, he may be playing in the better conference? 71 Washington State - Our Palouse 'partner' will never finish big time in recruiting. 90 ASU - Coaching and NCAA turmoil. ASU's best RB and best D player have both transferred out. 101 USC - With the hire of Riley this number will improve. But 2022 will still not be a banner USC class. These numbers are putrid. These numbers offer very little hope for conference improvement. Frankly, without expansion, I have no idea how the new commissioner plans to raise the performance of the conference in CFB and the nation's view of the Pac-12? One extra P5 OCC game may help but, only if the Pac-12 wins these games? Coach Lanning is coming from a school that has been to the CFB Final Four the same number of times as the entire Pac-12 conference.

Analysis: Is Dan Lanning an Upgrade from Mario Cristobal?
Great take. No argument from me Charles regarding any of your evaluations. CFB is a results oriented business. Your record is what you are. Cristobal is 62-60 - A champ as a recruiter and a chump as a coach. (Watching Herbert play yesterday, I almost lost my lunch! 2019 was a playoff caliber team with a playoff quality QB who was kept under wraps.) If he stays at Oregon for 122 games, I expect Lanning will have a record far better than 62-60. Of course, if he doesn't do far better than this playing in the Pac-12, Lanning won't last. All Cristobal excuse-makers please feel free to chime in regarding all the reasons why Mario is barely over .500 as a head football coach. The reason is simple. As Charles so artfully noted he often fails to have superior players ready to play football.

Play a new QB in San Antonio
Respect? I admire ABs guts but I do not respect his ability as a starting QB. The Ducks open 'at UGA ' next season. If Ty is the guy getting a start vs Oklahoma and Bob Stoops is IMO, imperative.
-
Busy Lanning
If Smart starts Daniels vs UM and in the rematch vs Bama, say hello to the DC of the national champion coming out west to coach Oregon.
-
Guys, did we just hire...
Folks, if Smart gets smart and starts Daniels vs Michigan and against Bama in the champ game, we will be welcoming the DC of the 2021 national champion as Oregon's new HC. Smart staying with Stetson, who was locked onto Bowers, ignored open WRs and missed easy throws, was as silly as Mario staying with Brown in the Pac-12 champ game. Stetson is a game manager. Daniels is a 5* who can spread the field. My bad for not recalling DeRuyter being hired by TT. IMO, he will not be missed.
-
Guys, did we just hire...
Man so many of these comments regarding the hire of Lanning and the guys he plans to hire are IMO far too negative. Of course there is risk in hiring a young guy with no HC experience but there is also, with the way the man recruits, a terrific upside. I urge patience in 2022. Mario left the Ducks with no experience at QB. I dearly hope a new system is going to be installed on O and if he stays, that DeRuyter does a far better job with the D. The schedule in 2022 is BRUTAL. 'At' UGA OOC plus BYU at home? 5 conference road games. For anyone who wants to take me up on it, I'll wager on Lanning have more success at Oregon than Mario will have at the U.

The Big Question: Who's Going to Make the Offense go at Oregon?
I get it. But in my case it's hard to feel too sorry for a guy who just got a 'half decent' bump in pay? And a great opportunity at his age. With an inexperienced QB, OOC games 'at' UGA and versus BYU and 5 conference road games, I don't think 11 wins is a reasonable bench mark in 2022? In 2023 the 'big' OOC game is at Texas Tech and both the coach and team will be more experienced. This is the year I think a run to the playoff can be expected.

OC
So far he has taken his team to the playoff the same number of times the entire Pac-12 conference has been to the playoff. And, he lost in OT to Bama in the 1st appearance.

Despite Insider Chaos, Oregon Hires Georgia’s Dan Lanning
Thanks Brother.
-
Strength and conditioning coach.
As you so correctly noted Cochran left Bama in part because at UGA he is also an assistant coach and not just the S+C coach. It was also an in-your-face move from Smart to Saban. Not sure Oregon can come close to matching Cochran's salary.

PLEASE! Senseless to do anything else.

OC
Per ESPN, Brady wants to remain in the NFL. How about Art Briles kid? His father is deservedly finished in CFB but his son, beginning under Kiffin at FAU, has been one heck of an OC.

30, any idea how Lanning showed up on the Ducks radar screen?
