  1. In fairness, Wilcox got zero support from the CAL administration. The CAL faculty voted in favor of dropping football. By all accounts his players love him. And he would bring a staff of Ducks grads with him. He upset Mario in 2020 and gave Oregon a heck of a game in 2021.
  2. Thank you Grandpa, great and illuminating post. In honor of my Dad who served as a gunnery officer on a Tin Can in the South Pacific in WWII - Go Navy! Beat Army!
  3. There should be plenty of available schollies. Have to be working the portal today.
  4. Done deal. Clemson OC Tony Eliot is the new HC at UVA.
  5. Another tidbit - Clemson OC Tony Eliot has been named the HC at UVA. Dabo has lost his AD, OC and DC. This after years of continuity at Clemson.
  6. You know what this entire episode unfortunately proves, you are better off if the existing HC is gone much earlier in the season. Mullens can see what is happening to this class of recruits. His phone may be ringing off the hook but maybe they were spam calls? He has to have struck out with at least a few candidates. SC is a glamour job. Otherwise you are taking a job in a conference that produced but 6 bowl teams, is 2 for 8 in playoff appearances, sends fewer guys to the pros every year and plays games on a joke of a network and late at night eastern time. Call Commissioner Bob Bowlsby!
  7. FWIW - not much - Manny Diaz is the new DC at Penn State.
  8. What kind of unique. special O have you seen him create at UCLA?
  9. If it is the Chipper, best wait until mid-January when his buy out goes to $0.
  10. Can't wait for WAZZU to play the U in the Sun Bowl.
  11. Those were the days my friend we thought they never end before the champ game when Saint Nick had his way. Great post and great take.
  12. Nick Saban recently speculated that he could bring non-scholly players to Bama with the right NIL deals.
  13. Chip had an all-world assistant coaching staff handed to him.
  14. So, steal DeBoer from UW? Kidding.
  15. A Miami guy, Paul Dee, took a firehouse to put out a campfire at SC when his own house was burning down.
  16. I'm sorry but what has he exactly done to deserve a 2nd chance? He bolted from Oregon for the NFL as soon as he could. He left a group of recruits hanging. His record since leaving Oregon is simply bad. He is unwilling to recruit. And the assistant coaches he would bring to Oregon are no where near the quality he inherited. And he put Oregon on probation. Chip is a last gasp save face choice. An absurd reach back to the past. But looking at the conference today except for the primo SC gig why would any top coach want to link up with the Pac-12?
  17. Coach. if you 'get this' I wish you had not stopped coaching. We are all good at something. That's the nature of the beast. To reward mediocrity so ESPN can make bank? I don't get it. Then again, I'm an old guy who once watched CFB when you had to be good, at least, to make a bowl game.
  18. The Rose, Sugar, Cotton and Orange Bowls. That was it before the Gator Bowl showed up. Now, guy's who coached 6-6 teams are getting a bonus?
  19. SIGH. The Rose Bowl when it is not a semifinal playoff site is the best of the exhibition bowl games. Top drawer recruits want to join a team that can reach the Playoff. Even in a 12 team PO Oregon would not have qualified this season. I am old school but the Rose Bowl to most of these youngsters is nothing if it is not a part of the Natty. I guess I am swimming against the Tide but winning a Rose Bowl over a 3L B1G team by 1 point is not a big deal. Not showing up for the Fiesta Bowl is a sorry but inexcusable effort. It's PO or bust. And with only 6 Pac-12 bowl eligible teams there was no reason for this Oregon team if correctly coached, should not be playing Bama in the Cotton Bowl instead of Cincinnati. The unprecedented win for Oregon at Ohio State was wasted. If you are happy with runner-up bowls by all means do not go after a Kiffin or an Aranda or even the Iowa State coach or Bill O'Brien. If you don't aim for the stars you will never get there. Chip was a perfect storm of a revolutionary O aided and abetted by a group of amazing assistant coaches that he inherited. Nick A was the perfect DC for Chip's then style of play. As I have noted previously, the new UW coach defeated Chip this season in LA. And he bringing a QB who beat UCLA on one leg and took Oregon into the 4th Q along with him. What does Chip when it comes to recruiting and style of play today bring with him but for memories. His DC has been out of it for years in the NFL and in college.
  20. Who Knows? Off the wall but if the guy worked for Saban and Smart he has to be able to recruit.
  21. Thanks my friend. Just wanted to chime in with something not coach-hire related. But the new HC is obviously #1 on the Hit List.
  22. Love your optimism. If it's Chip, so be it. But if he cannot recruit LA and he can't? Please check his record since departing Oregon. It is far from pretty. The scheme has been figured out and he will never be blessed with a group of assistant coaches the quality of those he had at Oregon. Chip would be a last gasp hire. Chip has done nothing at UCLA to earn a big pay raise.
