Klatt: "Oregon Got Absolutely Hosed!"
Klatt for Kommish? "Accountant." They count the number of dead on the battlefield after the fight. Thanks, Joel, but you, along with thousands of others, could see THIS happening from far more than a mile away. And the next team up to be hosed in 2025-26? TBD. 🤮

Koetter Say Oregon Offered BSU D-player After Fiesta
I'm Shocked! An agent of OBD may have made an offer to a player's agent but the agent will not be directly associated with OBD. Division Street did not fall off of the last pumpkin wagon passing through Glendale. 😛 Of course, the G5 more than ever before is a training ground for players not offered by the P4 out of high school.

The House Settlement Will Bring a New NIL Model to College Athletics
Solar, great comment. The lawyers they hired were hired to preserve a status quo that began to disappear when the NCAA lost its CFB broadcast monopoly. What I don't get in today's world is counsel not exploring alternatives beyond a settlement that settles Nothing but a suit brought by a defined class of plaintiffs. Is my idea of filing BK worth a whip? Perhaps not but there has to be better ways to go than this House settlement. NO POLITICS INTENDED. There will be a new Congress sworn in and perhaps, the NCAA should see if it can get relief from this Congress before handing over $2 Billion to the House plaintiffs. I Do Not Get How and Why all of these learned folks can agree to drop their load with the Pac-2 and another group of super-intellects can settle with a specific and not all-inclusive group of plaintiffs. I mean, TWO BILLION DOLLARS and you're not in the clear? Three entities are suing your company. Let's give a huge settlement to one litigant while ignoring the other two. INSANE! INNANE!

The House Settlement Will Bring a New NIL Model to College Athletics
College's from their presidents to athletic directors on down are preparing for a new recruiting and NIL model if the House settlement is approved. But as noted plaintiff's attorney Thomas Mars (appropriate name, eh?) notes, House will not end litigation. In particular, if The Clearing House (seven employees of Deloitte will determine if NIL deals $600 and over are 'fair' when using a Fair Market Value test) gives a deal a thumbs down, a player's attorney will not take this lying down. Anyone who believes the Clearing House can cap NIL deals without pushback has not been paying attention. The House settlement will not bar existing, outside of the House class of plaintiffs, and future antitrust litigation. IMHO, the NCAA would be better off filing bankruptcy and as part of a plan of reorganization doing an end run on Congress by getting a federal bankruptcy to approve the plan of reorganization including protection from litigation, antitrust, Title IX, etc., that would likely be challenged to the Supreme Court level of review. If the Supremes sign off, college sports would have de facto federal and state protection from antitrust and other litigation. If the House settlement is approved, I think that it will be SSDD. With NIL era ending, college sports is on verge of seismic change. How will schools adapt with industry in upheaval? SPORTS.YAHOO.COM College football’s more professionalized era arrives in July, and historic powerhouses like Ohio State and Texas could lose both their inherent recruiting advantage and their financial edge. It is no surprise that Ohio State athletics are used as an example. How many FBS programs, especially at the G5 level, will be able to come up with $20M a year in direct payment to their athletes? If approved, I believe the settlement will lead to further conference consolidation and a Super Conference.

Some Much Needed Perspective About DL From Josh Pate
No team and coach were handed a tougher slate than OBD this season. OBD overcame playing eight games in a row without an off week. Overcame four of the last eight games being played on the road. Overcame two of its last regular season opponents being off the Saturday before playing the Ducks. Overcame Tez being injured at Michigan and overcame bad O-line play in the first two games. Dan and his assistants did a tremendous job of melding in new players from the transfer portal with the returning players and creating a TEAM atmosphere. FSU supposedly had a better group of transfers than OBD, how did that work out? The grind of the season and the travel showed up on the D side of the ball vs. Penn State. I think 11 days of rest before a home game in Autzen vs. a team that made sense as the 8-seed would have been perfect. Instead, the Ducks lost their legs and conditioning. Against most teams in the PO OBD could have found its footing before being behind 34-0. Not against this Ohio State team with its hair on fire. OBD could not overcome a bad PO draw against a team with a more talented roster that experienced its nadir against its rival but had the chance to rebound in a home game before playing Oregon in a neutral site game. tOSU has the best roster in CFB and played like it in its last two games. Of the many things I learned from the Rose Bowl, Number One is you cannot underestimate the impact of the Autzen crowd and playing at home. Against Michigan and throughout the season the Buckeyes looked like it was out to prove that Ohio State was the toughest kid on the block. After watching the Tennessee and Rose Bowl games I wondered: Who called the Michigan game? Ohio State woke up and returned to the formula of setting up the run with the pass. The formula that worked so well with Fields and Stroud at QB throwing to top-drawer wide receivers. On D it appeared to be the same. Knowles said, 'Forget the scheme and turn it loose.' The superior Ohio State athletes were allowed to let it go and have fun. Will the fervor and excellence the Buckeyes O played with vs. the Vols and the Ducks show up in Dallas? The Buckeyes D but for the game in Autzen showed up consistently in 2024. If Chip and the offense can keep it up, tOSU will finish 14-2 and Day will have his first Natty. Ohio State was the 8-seed, right? 🙃

Branch Brothers Going to Georgia
A young man from California wine country adjusted quite nicely. And Bowers had a terrific rookie season with the Raiders. Bowers and the Chargers WR McConkey were sorely missed this season. A WR was dropped from the program preseason, Beck often looked lost without his TE security blanket, and the Georgia wide receivers had hands of Teflon that they brought to the Sugar Bowl game. I also think that UGA OC Bobo should Gogo. But Bobo and Kirby are very tight.

Klatt Believes SEC Dominance is Over
Take a look at ND's schedule. One-third of the games were played against the G5. Army and Navy were in the top 25 because 25 teams for some reason continue to be ranked. NO. ILL was not in the top 25. Georgia Tech and Georgia were both missing their starting QBs. UGA self-destructed. ND QB Leonard threw for fewer than 100 yards vs. the Dawgs. Stanford? USC? However, SC put up 557 yards of total offense on the Domers. 5-0 vs this season's woeful ACC. Clemson, Miami, and SMU were not on the schedule. All of the 3-loss teams in the SEC would have finished with no more than 1 loss with this schedule. Ohio State would have finished 13-0 and Penn State would have one loss if that. Now, ND gets to 'look in the mirror' vs. Penn State instead of looking at an Oregon team coming off a home win vs SMU and a Fiesta Bowl win vs. Boise. Not the OBD team that did not show up in the Rose Bowl. ND could not have kept pace with the Ducks O. So, maybe it is the season of the Irish? The team should be in the top 10, no doubt. The team handled an Indiana team that also benefited from an easy schedule. PSU's O rolled vs. OBD. The Nits D squashed SMU and Boise. I think PSU and not ND should be the Orange Bowl favorite and the Nits win the game. (However, I had OBD on the Money Line vs. tOSU 😩.)

Klatt Believes SEC Dominance is Over
Not So Fast. 🙃 A down year in the SEC exacerbated by BAD QB play. Texas has a chance to win it all. SEC schools will have the most guys drafted. SEC is odds on to be the best conference top to bottom in 2025 recruiting. Someone in the Media may be overreacting. I'm shocked! 🤪

How to Get Under Charles’s Skin…
This so-called 'Settlement' was made by the learned conference presidents after consulting with ... Larry Scott? A/K/A a decision by the same FOOLS or their doppelgangers, who allowed the conference to crater. I'm with Charles, happy to be B1G but this was a giveaway when no exit fee was required by contract. Trying to make sense of THIS is like trying to solve the Riemann Hypothesis but you only get $1M for solving Riemann instead of the whole Pie, Man, when you 'negotiate' with the Pac-10 Simple Simons. 🤓😜🤑 Is there a lawyer in the Out House? 🦨💩 BTW - The negatory vote of the Pac-(1)2 is all that is necessary to keep the PO format 'as is' until 2026-27.

Making Sense of Oregon’s Shocking Rose Bowl Loss to Buckeyes
Thanks, Jordan. It's simple, with this format OBD should have lost to PSU in the champ game. Instead, OBD was handed the worst possible matchup. Hats off to Ohio State but OBD should not have seen tOSU before the semifinals. Had OBD played SMU at home and Boise in the Fiesta Bowl, Dan would be preparing the team for a game vs. Notre Dame in Miami. What sense does it make to be better off as a conference champ game loser than the champion? Wait Till Next Year! Or until 2026 when this absurd format goes away. If 2025 sees the same format and the preferred seeding for conference champs I'd wager today that the 3rd and 4th-seeded teams lose their opening game.
