Great Article: Dillon Gabriel is Not Done!
Pitt Duck, thanks so much for the post of the terrific article on Gabe. Bill Connelly's take on the PO quarter-finals is up on ESPN+, $ Wall, so here is a summary of Connolly's article, the point spread favorites, and the SP+ and FPI game predictions. 12/31 - Fiesta Bowl - Penn State - 11 vs. Boise State. "Since 2022, PSU's James Franklin is 33-1 when PSU was the favorite." SP+ PSU bu 11.5/ FPI PSU by 5.4. 1/1/25 - Peach Bowl - Texas -13 vs. ASU. "ASU finished the regular season as the hottest team in FBS, overachieving SP+ projections by 19.9 points a game during a six-game winning streak." SP+ Texas by 16/ FPI Texas by 11.8 1/1/25 - Sugar Bowl - Georgia -2 vs. Notre Dame. "Georgia and Notre Dame have met on three occasions, and all three games played out in similar fashion: The teams traded intense, physical blows for almost 60 minutes, then Georgia makes a late stop and wins." SP+ Georgia by 0.9/ FPI Notre Dame by 1. 1/1/25 - ROSE BOWL - OREGON +2.5 vs. Ohio State. "The winner becomes the national title favorite." SP+ Ohio State by 0.9/ FPI Ohio State by 1.2. ........................................................................................................................................... ASU is the last man standing with a chance to save face for the ACC and the B12. A Texas win by two or more TDs will help power the Power 2's argument for three to four automatic PO qualifiers for the B1G and the SEC. PSU as a favorite under Franklin wins. Google It. I expect PSU to attack Boise's vulnerable cornerbacks. Vulnerable due to Boise blitzing more often than any other team up to the quarter-finals. I do think Jeanty will go over 100 yards and PSU wins but Boise State covers. The Rose and Sugar Bowl games are close to Pick-'Em for the point spread, SP+, and FPI. Georgia will not have Carson Beck. But Georgia has played a far more grueling schedule than Notre Dame and Georgia's SEC champ game win over Texas is a better win than Notre Dame's victory over Indiana. I think UGA prevails. OREGON vs. Ohio State. That the winner of a quarter-final game is the ipso facto favorite to win it all exposes the PO for what it is. An untenable, jury-rigged format that will be corrected in 2026-27 if not before. GO DUCKS. Make the SP+ cry! Prove the FPI programming to be a lie! And make it a bad Day for Ryan, the Chipper, Willie Boy, and the tOSU D! TAKE NO PRISONERS! LEAVE NO CRUMBS!

Season a Success Either Way
Thanks for the post. I'm not pondering THIS until the end of the Rose Bowl game. The Ducks were dealt a bad hand by this fouled-up PO format but SO WHAT? OREGON is 0-2 in clearing The Title hurdle. The only thing that will somewhat abate, not end the Uncle Phil bought a title, not a physical team, all flash and no cash narratives is a Championship. The World Says: No great college teams in 2024. A Rose Bowl loss will confirm this POV; especially, if tOSU does not win the title. Go 16-0 with SIX WINS against PO teams and the Ducks can simply say: SCOREBOARD! AN ALL-TIME SCOREBOARD but for Yale before electricity and an FCS team or two. It took Kirby Smart time to get his 1st title. It comes full circle in Atlanta on 1/20/25 when Danno and the Ducks get payback for Lanning's opening act butt-kicking. It's the Ducks and not Ohio Against the World. ONE GAME AT A TIME. CRUSH THE BUCK'S NUTS!

USC Beats Texas A&M 35-31
Could Navy's season have finished any better? WOW! Oklahoma better hope that the OC and QB coming to Norman from Wazzu (hats off to the Cougs for putting up a fight against Syracuse in the Holiday Bowl) make a difference. But for a change in venues, OK has the same brutal SEC schedule in 2025 that it played in 2024 while Texas again has it easy. Instead of beefing about the PO, perhaps the SEC should look at the SOS variances with its in-conference scheduling. This could be fixed before next season.

USC Beats Texas A&M 35-31
Terrific and fun comments. If I remember (always suspect) correctly, the B1G and the SEC are now 3-3 on the season. 2 wins by the Trojans, a win by Ohio State, and losses by Michigan, Wisconsin, and UCLA. The B1G teams are the underdog in the remaining bowl games. I am interested in watching No. 20. 9-3 Illinois versus No. 15. 9-3 South Carolina. Two of Illinois's Ls came on the road at No. 1 OREGON and No. 4 Penn State and the home loss to Minnesota was a more competitive game than the beat down of the Gamecocks by Ole Miss in Columbia. What is the future of bowl games? Difficult to tell. With the current bowl tie-ins the number of teams each of the Power 2 have in the PO will affect the match-ups down the line. I believe the SEC is deeper than the B1G, but it will be closer if USC (🤮) and UWho (🦨) get their Sierra (💩) together. Ole Miss and SC mutually canceled the H+H series that was scheduled to begin in 2025. Texas opens next season at Ohio State. Michigan plays at Oklahoma. Wisconsin plays at Bama. I don't see the scheduling agreement between the Power 2 happening before the 2030s at the earliest. For this to happen I expect the Power 2 would have to have at least three teams each guaranteed a spot in the PO. Greg Sankey clarifies future scheduling plans between SEC, Big Ten programs - Saturday Down South WWW.SATURDAYDOWNSOUTH.COM Greg Sankey responded to the idea that SEC and Big Ten teams are engaged in future scheduling opportunities. On the season, with SC finishing 7-6, Coach Riley comes in at @$1.4 Million a win. Which is nice. 😁 BURY BRUTUS!

Ohio State is Favored Why, Exactly?
Has anyone considered that the SEC including Tennessee was not all that good in 2024? The Vols beat Bama! So did Vandy and Oklahoma. Big Whoop! And against a Bama team that Oklahoma destroyed, the Vols put up 24 points on its home field. The Vols O line was a sieve versus tOSU. The Ducks O line was solid versus tOSU helped out by a Heisman finalist QB whose play is in a different stratosphere than that of Tennessee Freshman QB Nico I. The vaunted Vols run game? The top drawer WRs? One of the best Ds in CFB? Like the game in Columbus, the entire Tennessee team no-showed against Georgia in Athens. Versus the best D the Vols O played against, it did nothing. This Tennessee team lost to Arkansas and looked bad in the process. The Vols were way overrated because of the conference it plays in. 9-3 Alabama finished No. 11. 9-3 Illinois finished No. 20. Two of the Illini's three losses came on the road against the No. 1 ranked and No. 4 ranked teams in the nation, OBD and Penn State. The Illini loss to 7-5 Minnesota was not a good loss but it was better than the Bama losses to Vandy and Oklahoma. The 3-loss SEC teams that 'all should have been in the playoff' were along with Tennessee and Texas, overrated; again, because there is no way the SEC can have a down year, right? Committee darling Texas has one win against a PO team, 3-loss No. 16 Clemson on its home field. With Carson Beck down, the two best teams remaining in the field will play in the Rose Bowl. Ohio State after being told they STINK by their fans and the SEC media honks played its best game of the season, at home and in favorable weather conditions. tOSU hit its season zenith. Not easy to duplicate the next time out. Oregon will perhaps get the respect it deserves after it wins a Natty but it will probably take a Clemson-like 4-team format run before the respect comes coast-to-coast. Cage Chipper! Ruin Ryan's Day! Bury Brutus. BTW - Could Tennessee beat Boise or Penn State? We know the Vols didn't come close to Ohio State. 😎
