Maryland won it all in 2006 but the Terps did not join the B1G until 2014. UConn has dominated the Women's tournament and in recent seasons, USC(E) has been tough to beat. Lady Ducks have a 17-8 record to date; 8-6 in conference.

Great post and comments. As proposed by the Coaches Association, one portal window in early January would help to make all of CFB less chaotic and spring ball could maintain its traditions. However, with the season ending on 1/20/25 and on 1/25/26 this coming season, alterations to spring ball are not surprising.

The B1G: Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State ( the TOSU women are the defending national champs,) Penn State, and Wisconsin. The Eastern College Hockey Association and the Western Hockey Association along with the B1G have produced multiple NCAA champions. For college hockey fans, the NCAA Tournament and its Frozen Four finale are huge. Minnesota Mens Ice Hockey was one of two programs outside of football to finish in the black in 2024. ASU's men's and women's hockey teams compete in the American Central Hockey Association. Phoenix used to have an NHL Team that is now playing in Salt Lake City. If the House Settlement is approved (😧) college athletic departments will be cutting varsity sports so I doubt that any club sport will be elevated to varsity status. It's an interesting date with the second portal window opening on April 16th and closing on April 25th. TOSU has announced that it will not play a spring game. With its season ending in Atlanta on 1/20/25, TOSU moved the start of spring practice back two weeks. Matt Ruhle does not want Nebraska to play a spring game even though the game is traditionally sold out. He does not want to give portal poachers the chance to scout players in game-like conditions.

OK, in 2026, let's keep a 12-team PO, but one that is based solely on merit. If you finish in the PO Ct's top 12, you're in! And you are seeded as ranked. Top 4 ranked = top 4 seeds with a 1st round bye. No automatic bid for a G5 team. Without an automatic bid in 2024-25, why would a 1-loss Boise with a batspit schedule get in instead of a 3-loss Bama, Ole Miss, South Carolina, or Illinois? A close loss at Oregon? Well, how about close wins over Wyoming and Nevada? Clemson made the field as the ACC champion. Should Clemson with a blowout loss vs. Georgia, and home losses to Louisville and South Carolina make the PO field? Would SMU with a home loss to 2 loss BYU be in the PO field? A PO of the top 12 teams based on CBB benchmarks including Quad 1 wins, SOS, etc.? Almost a certainty that the Power 2 would have at least 8 teams in the field, that no G5 team would be in the field, and that the ACC and B12 would be fortunate to have one team in the field. It is also a certainty that the Power 2 draws far more eyeballs than other conferences.
