  1. By his own admission, "I do that".

Deion played the hype train to perfection as a player, but as a coach, it has become a distraction.

He really needs to settle in and figure our how to win games.

He has 1 year left with his sons. He better start getting better recruiting classes, especially some O-line guys, and develop them.

In the meantime, why is it so fun to watch him and his team blow up in the news constantly?

Is it cuz one should walk the walk, before all that talk?!

    Go Utah. Win the Big12.

  2. "If your good enough,  you're old enough".

Lannings mantra bodes well for the future of this team.

I feel like he wants a lot of rotation of players. Fewer snaps/player, but fresh legs through entire game.

    And potentially fewer injuries.

To make and win the playoffs could mean 17 games! So there should be plenty of opportunities for the youth to develop and play.

  3. Canzano can't face reality.

    No one wants the beavs.

    No one.

They don't raise the interest bar beyond their few loyal fans.

In fact, their fans are so used to losing and being non- relevant, they like the idea of finally competing in a conference they could win!

Which won't last long, as they continue to lose quality recruits.

The Beavers are one of the reasons no one east of Denver cared about the Pac12.

I'm glad I canceled his account.

    Move on already.

By the time he accepts this move, there will be another major realignment.

    Jeez...!

  4. Thanks Jon for the excellent break down.

While I agree that a lower ranked conference champ getting a 1st round bye doesn't seem fair, winning your conference deserves reward.

I also don't like the subjective poll rankings. Too much ESPN influence.

Since when do we agree entirely with the polls?

    I have 2 major concerns:

1- the number of games is too many for students (yes, they are getting paid, but they still have classes) pro's can spend all day rehabbing an injury if necessary.

2-the number of inter-conference games must be the same. And the OOC games also must be in line the same, ie. same conference level teams, etc.

Traveling, while tough, isn't so bad when on private charter flights (not commercial), though flying coast to coast seems problematic for pro sports.

The odds of a 7-5 team making playoff are pretty slim. What's worse is a 18th(or worse) ranked G5 team bumping a #12 ranked team. The G5 conferences have been weakened by realignment, especially from the Big12.

And a team winning it all, playing their 17th game, will always be the underdog.

Alas, no system will seem fair until the conferences realign again.

Maybe separate leagues are now needed.

  5. I think our strength is in depth at each defensive position.

Especially after the latest 2 additions.

Based on snap count analysis from last year, and things coach DL has said, I believe he wants a lot of rotation with fresh bodies. We may not see individual stat #'s set any records, but overall, get pressure on the qb and stop the run.

Stopping the run in the B1G will be priority #1. Getting that big bodied defender from MSU was huge. Gives the young guys someone to learn from too.

Funny enough, my biggest concern is on offense. I'm hoping Dillion develops a genuine rapport with the receivers, timing, reading defenses the same, and they adjust to that left-handed spin.

Bo in the 4th quarter gave me confidence like I used to have with Joey in the 4th.

I'm hoping DG does the same.

I'm also going to miss Bucky. Though our RB depth looks solid.

Finally, I hope the poor exchanges between qb and center get worked out. I'm giving new qb's as the reason and they will work things out in the fall.

We have been spoiled with superb center play for many, many years. Something I have taken for granted. It's too important of position for that.

Anyway, can't wait for the season to start!

I agree 100% with all you said David.

    On point!

    Development and relationships.

But I'm willing to bet the business folks involved with the NIL group point out tax differences.

So I checked, CA top tax rate is 13.3% and OR is 9.9%

    Not a lot of difference.

CA cost of living, #2 highest.

    OR col is #10 highest.

So again, not a lot if difference $$.

Difference is the coaching and the culture, just like you said Mr. Marsh.

    Well said.

I'm not sure many are doing the math on the tax rates.

But the three keys of recruitment right now are relationships, NFL development and NIL.

Lanning and company are amazing at relationship building. You hear every single recruit who visits Oregon say it feels like family and they feel they belong, whether or not they choose the Ducks. This also encompasses things like the culture and play time.

NFL preparation is is growing with every year and got a big boost with this last draft. Getting more into the draft and earlier rounds will only make this better.

Then there is the NIL component of throwing money at players. These NIL prices vary depending on the previous two.

A great example is looking at Saban at Alabama where Bama's NIL payouts were considered to be lower because the development to the NFL was so high that just getting to Bama increased a players chances of reaching the next level.

Division Street is giving competitive NIL rates frim everything I've heard but they aren't just throwing money at players that USC fans think is happening.

It is funny to watch them implode though.

I agree 100% with all you said David.

  8. Something SC fans are forgetting, tax rates in CA are much, much higher than in OR.

Their NIL would have to offer at least 35-50% more for same $$.

Then there's OR with a better rated D...

    better rated O-line.

Maybe players just want better coaching.

    Just sayin. 🤭

A roasting yes, now, in May.

Come November, they won't say a word.

It's been like this since the first BCS, or even before. If the Pac had only played 8 conf games, the rankings would have not been so skewed to the SEC.

This is major reason I don't necessarily want a " National Champion" in football. We don't all play the same teams and so much depends on subjective rationale and the ol' "eye test".

Well, if they can agree finally on a more level playing field, great!

Being in the B1G is now of supreme importance. Hate to see the Pac go, but college sports is headed into a whole new game and I'm glad for Oregon sakes we are now B1G.

  10. Totally agree Charles.

Novasad was the best qb by far on sat.

Moga shows he's got chops too. And Dante has the physical tools.

    We are indeed deep.

And Akili Smith Jr. is arriving next year!

I know it's just a spring game but was disappointed with Gabriel. His long balls weren't even close, and if Tez hadn't been making terrific catches, his completions would have been even more down.

These are just my untrained observations and thoughts. The thing is, Austin is the only qb who was here last year, the others just got here in Jan.

Maybe it's no surprise he looked the most comfortable with receivers routes and offensive timing.

He certainly provides confidence in that qb room.

Here's one decision that makes sense.

    THEATHLETIC.COM

Bush forfeited his Heisman in 2010 after an NCAA investigation found he took extra benefits while he was a student at USC.

"A wrong was done, and is now corrected"

I don't agree. Reggie Bush and family did receive benefits that at the time were against ncaa rules.

Those penalties, including losing the Heisman, were earned.

    That wasn't a wrong.

However, with changing times, the rules have changed. Reinstating Bush seems a logical step.

But it's not correcting a wrong.

    Let's not rewrite history.

  12. Even if there is more upheaval in conference alignments, what makes anyone think there would be interest in either Pig-2 team?!

They have already been rejected by the other P4 conferences.

Their only hope is to combine with MWC and hope that 2 National championships will arise, one for D1 P4 schools and one for all the others.

With students being deemed employees just around the corner, and profit sharing of some sort most likely, they won't want that headache. So being a champ in a D1a league is their best hope.

Then we could get 2 Natty's in our state, the real one, us, and a B level league for the river rats.

  13. Mr. Fishduck, you're a better man than I.

I have unsuscribed from Canzano. Can't take the nonsense.

But I appreciate you passing on the few decent tidbits.

I think what sets coach Lanning apart is that he genuinely cares about people, even journalists, so called( though I think he just tolerates Crepea).

He certainly knows how to set a table..

..now we just got to run the course.

  14. Coach DL has already shown his plan to rotate players as much as possible.

Lots of guys have had minutes, few have been getting tons.

This helps keep bodies fresh, and perhaps last through a long season.

Getting 4 games for freshmen will be invaluable. And being stacked at each position will keep everyone ready/desiring to play.

With all the rule changes the past few years to increase safety for the players, it's a bit mind-boggling to see it could take 17 games to produce a national champion.

And playing top ranked teams as OOC games seems even more foolish looking at a 17 game schedule!

Coach DL certainly seems ahead of the game in player usage strategy.

  15. I think the article has merit.

It would be fun to see some of those games.

But, only if the G5 travel to Autzen and the others, in the playoffs.

Playing in the B1G now gives us less wiggle room for scheduling, even with expanded playoff.

Oregon should have no problem scheduling home games now and getting whomever they want.

Having B1G teams now show up to Autzen yearly will make tickets a high demand item for several years.

It's time the AD took Jon J's scheduling advice.

  16. Who pulled "don't call me Carlos", out of W. Kentucky and put him on the big stage?

I'm surprised coach "lock" would throw shade at DL.

I've heard coach Lanning say those exact words after other coaching changes, "a change is a chance to improve".

And it looks like he did.

It's also interesting the new coach got an additional assistant coach title as well. Could be to justify pay increase or could be an effort to keep coach Samples in the fold for at least a few years.

Also interesting, we lost a couple RB's to the portal soon after CL was hired, thus his softbatch cookie comment.

I see tOSU has just lost a RB.

    Seems to be a pattern.

Can't wait to see them in Autzen.

    Sco Ducks!!
