A Reason for All the Secret Treatment of Scrimmages?
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I would expect a coach to disseminate what happened in the film room first, and then discuss it with the players and staff. The last thing I would do is speak to the press and fans about what I saw. I don't expect to see Dan Lanning dress down a player on the sideline, either. I expect him to take care of that kind of stuff in practice, create expectations, and then deal with anything in private. I think this kind of communication trickles up to how he deals with the press. You don't want a qb reading, or hearing about how he did from a news conference. We may want to hear about it, but that isn't the smart way for a coach to deal with how a player performs. I am sure he is straight up to the players and coaches first, and then we will hear about it. That is the right way to deal with what is going on in building a program from the ground up. I just think we are seeing who Dan Lanning is as a coach, and I like it! -
The End Zone Fade: Oregon Can Run It Now!
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That and the qb sneak are plays I too have been scratching my thinning haired head on for a while. Maybe that is why my hair seems to have thinned a bit more the past couple years? You have the big running qb and you don't run the qb sneak, WHAT! You have the tall receivers and you don't run the end zone fade, WHAT! I suppose throwing the deep ball is another play we need to see, but there is also the trick play on occasion too. What other play needs to be added to the play book, which was more like a comic book the past couple years. -
He didn't even name a top RB, no way he is going to touch the QB situation after one scrimmage. It does sound like at least one of the pics was a decent mistake, late down pass. That is also on the WR's to compete and take the ball from the DB's. That competition is also of interest. What receiver is catching anything thrown his way, or does it have to be thrown perfect, and there needs to be separation for a pass to be caught. We are going to need at least one guy who you can count on to catch the tough passes. For some reason I am almost most excited to see how this defense fairs against Georgia and others. We have a DC as our head coach, and our team will be lead by how the defense is able to neutralize other teams. The offense will get their points, but it will be off the turnovers created by the defense, and field position also created by the defense. I am not counting on our offense to be the CK 3 downs, 70 yds, and 7 points. I have a feeling it will be a score based on a panting defense being on their heals, after a three and out. We are going to have an offense again, thankfully, but it will be led by the defense.

Gotta Love a Husky Saturday Spoof

2008 and last year in their first game a loss at home to Montana and stomped by the Cougs at home for their last. The dawgs have been providing some gems for a while. -
Duck Basketball's 10 Highest Rated Commits of All Time
Haywarduck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
And I am still most excited about the young man who committed last year, Jackson Shelstad. When these highly rated kids do something for Oregon's team, other than signing I will get more excited. -
A coordinator better because of the head coach, 'WHAT??????????????.' 'How about we run the pistol,' 'I know just how to use that.' 'We have a qb who has a gun for an arm,' 'I'll let you know exactly when and where to let him throw, until then we'll you those two pistol plays I like.' 'I think we have some TE's who can get open,' 'What are you crazy, teach them how to block!'

Miami Fans Should Be Beware of Cristobal and Their Prized QB
Haywarduck replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Nice to see Robby get some good reps. He has the talent to be very good, a pretty good move going to Auburn. Poppa-C Productions does a nice job of putting together those clips. Thanks for sharing! -
Justin Flowe: Oregon’s Next All-American Linebacker
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I know I want to see him play another season in college without injury. Wouldn't that be amazing to have both Sewell and Flowe back for a 4th year, I can dream can't I! That would be NIL money well spent. -
Miami Fans Should Be Beware of Cristobal and Their Prized QB
Haywarduck replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This was what I always wondered about with AB. The guy had the heart of a lion, and his statistics went down under the qb killer. Now the questions are how high will Robby Ashford rise at Auburn? Also is Ty, and Butters much better than they were assumed as AB's back-ups? Finally can a qb at Miami actually put up some stats, and improve under the coach who can stifle a rifle, suffocate a star, and strangle every angle a qb has at success. Mopes and Slurpes, are you paying attention? -
Justin Flowe: Oregon’s Next All-American Linebacker
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I just think we should be aware of a few things this season. Records 206 Most Tackles in a season 1969 22 Most Tackles in a game 1983 13 Most Sacks in a season 1993/2008 With Flowe and Sewell we may be setting a few new records. I will also say after next years draft they may be calling us LBU! -
College Football's 10 Most-Hated Teams of All Time
Haywarduck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I will always be grateful to Mario for beating the nuts in the shoe, always! That was almost a 'the pick' moment. Seeing JTT on the tosu sideline, at home, losing to the Ducks was a sweet moment. I look forward to beating the spoiled children for much the same reason. When kids sign on to the trojan dream, and thumb their nose to the Oregon culture I kind of love to see them lose. This season I would love to see somebody's brother lose to the Ducks! I know it is a character flaw of mine, but I own it! -
Supposedly if he slows down. The kid has a motor like no other, but that can be played by an offense if they know he is overly reactive. I think he may be our sack leader. In high school he just caused havoc.

Like I predicted earlier Justin Flowe is going to blow up on defense this year. Great article talking about the talent he is showing this fall in camp. Oregon's Justin Flowe grows national buzz after two injury-plagued seasons 247SPORTS.COM ...

Beware Kicking the Dawg: DeBoer Bites Back
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Also the streaks are DeBoer, 0-1, the dawgs 0-3, and I look for those streaks to continue and grow against Oregon. -
Jurrion Dickey: MaxPreps Preseason All-American
Haywarduck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The long drought in the wide receiver department is finally coming to an end. We actually seem to have a flood of talent at wide receiver now, not a bad problem. I remember back when we signed Cam Colvin, still our highest rated wide receiver recruit all-time, but he just didn't work out to be our great receiver. I look forward to Oregon to finally developing a NFL receiver pipeline. This is something we have never had, but will change our program if it happens. Jurrion could just be the next great one as we seem to be flush at the position now. -
Beware Kicking the Dawg: DeBoer Bites Back
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Agree DeBoer is a very good coach. I will say Oregon has a way of creating great coaches, and the dawg program has the exact opposite effect. DeBoer will have to break the streak of coaches either struggling at the mistake on the lake or just quitting. I don't wish ill will on anyone, but the program up north, I look forward to continued struggles. -
Great stuff, and something I saw Bo do as he finished the play and as he came to the line of scrimmage. If Ty and Butters can better develop this type of leadership between the snaps they too may become leaders of the Ducks. The leadership doesn't just happen in the huddle is what Dilly is speaking too. A qb has to see the defense, but also know how each player should line up, and the dynamics each matchup is creating. One can call it ownership, but it is also extreme leadership. Every player should know the qb is in control and has high expectations. When a play is called the qb becomes the maestro, he sees every player, and knows how it should go while providing strong leadership. Some have skills and others also bring the vision and leadership needed. I look forward to seeing who has these traits which can come to fruition under Dilly.

Lanning’s Defense: Setting the Bar
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
There are players who change the game, I think we will see Flowe as one of those players. The D-line will effect the game, but the speed and power of Flowe is going to be something to watch. I still remember the highlight of Flowe taking down Noah, who was play RB, in the Poly game when they were coming out of high school. We haven't seen what Justin can do yet, and when we do it is going to be a moment. I predict some DAT type moments on defense for Mr. Flowe, highlights we will remember! -

Oregon’s Two-Quarterback Solution
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I do think there is developing and then there is letting somebody who is ready to compete, the opportunity to show it. Do we have a Tom Brady who needs to show what he can do on the field or just another highly rated high school product who doesn't have what it takes at the college level. I don't think we know from the development and filter the previous leadership provided. I look forward to putting a different eye and development system to work on the two guys who have been sitting, mainly on the bench until now. Again if both back-ups are ready to compete at the college level give them both time to shine, they deserve it.
