The New Overlords of College Football
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
As much as I hated the NCAA, the end of the NCAA isn't the answer. Much like getting rid of a bad employer, the next one can be just as destructive and seems to be. Having no one really in charge, and everyone going after the almighty dollar isn't the rejoinder. I look for cannibalism to be the direction until somehow the truly elite decide to agree to some form of oversight. I look for this type of mentality to destroy the Rutgers, types of the Big 10, and then once the musical chairs is over, a much nicer term than cannibalism, there becomes a commissioner of the super conferences. Right now I have no idea how the unconstrained market will play out, but it will studied by many for years to come. What happens when a controlled market goes unbridled seems to have nothing to compare it too. I can't think of a comparable situation in recent history. Maybe Genghis Khan and the Mongolian Empire would be a comparable time with the SEC and the BIG 10 being Genghis driven by the TV contracts? Agree the NFL model probably won't be the answer. Maybe how European soccer leagues are run, you have to win to stay in the super conferences? Within the super conferences only the truly elite will stay in the league, and the lower tiers will rotate in and out. Bottomline there will have to be different oversight, as the NCAA seems unable to provide what is needed. Emmert may have been a bigger buffoon than Lavish Larry, if that is possible. -
The New Overlords of College Football
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What we see in the NFL is the worlds greatest capitalists who realize unfettered capitalism would be complete chaos. What we have in college football is unfettered capitalism and David spelled it out extremely well. The NCAA is dead, they have little or no control of college football. What we need is a ruling body, or a commissioner of the new college football. Somebody needs to create rules and have an iron fist or this is going to get ugly. The owners of the NFL know what happening in college football isn't sustainable. They would never tolerate what is going on now. -
Much like Annie stated so well, we can't control what other programs do or what other conferences do, nor what the tv contracts come out with. What we can control is putting the best team on the field with the most compelling story out there. If this happens the general public will want to see the Ducks play and the money will follow. Let's not freak out with what others are doing, just revel in how well our Ducks are being run and put together. All the other stuff will follow, and we won't have to worry about all this noise. That has been the Oregon way for a while, others tend to follow us, let's keep it that way. So all I know is these headlines really mean nothing, nothing to see here. What matters is what happens this fall and the falls going forward. The rest will take care of itself, so lets continue to discuss what matters our Ducks and football!

Charles is a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, but is a testament to who Charles is, that air is rarefied air in this day and age. Charles is a throwback to a better time, a time where integrity and decency mattered more. We may call him FishDuck, but really he is just all that is a good about being a Duck. Great article, and Happy Birthday Charles!

I would be intrigued to see Oregon go it alone. If the very smart people associated with Oregon can put something together where Oregon builds their brand, and brings in bank then that would be the shrewdest move. Also one seldom does well when you are reacting, and panicking. Let's let the dust settle on this one a bit before we run off all half cocked. We are in about the 3rd inning of this whole new era of college football. The spoiled children and ucla just stole second and are standing on second base thinking they are all that and a bad of chips. They might be stuck on second for a while.

George Kliavkoff--Completely Blindsided?
Haywarduck replied to Desert Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
George, so far. Maybe there is a deal down in that hole he has us in, but I am not too sure about that. -
George Kliavkoff--Completely Blindsided?
Haywarduck replied to Desert Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Like I said in another post sc and ucla are just acting as their reputations would indicate they would. George doesn't have a reputation, but the one forming isn't a good one. He was fooled once, time to get it going, or be the fool. Time for George to start earning his keep, or he won't have a home. -
Pac 12 on Life Support and Larry Scott Put it There
Haywarduck replied to Tandaian's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We are also seeing in programs what we are seeing with our student athletes, a liberal use of the transfer portal. I look for more transfers to happen with the programs which are highly desirable. Oregon, fortunately, is in the group of highly desirables, unlike many of our Pac-12 mates. Too bad sc and ucla decided to go it alone. I suppose the school known as the university of spoiled children, and another school known for it's players getting handicap parking passes, thinking only of oneself comes naturally. I want Oregon to lay the wood on these guys even more now! -
MariØ put on the camp where the kid broke his leg. If he didn't show up at the hospital, now there would have been a story. The idea he went to the hospital where a recruit broke his tibia is the minimum he should have done. This is just a made for news piece which should be expected by the media in south beach. If this wasn't made into a feel good story by the media, and MariØ hadn't gone to the hospital, that would have been interesting. Nothing to see here, but in todays world this kind of thing makes headlines.

We are looking good, and should have no worries, the beavs on the other hand, ouch! In the new, it's all about the money college football world the Ducks will be just fine. We aren't Notre Dame, but we have a compelling fanbase, and will be add to any conferences bottomline, that is all that matters, right now. We also have a savvy marketing department which will make the right move, unlike the conference leadership. Which Pac-12 school has the biggest fanbase when it comes to football? WWW.YAHOO.COM With potential conference realignment ahead of us, size of fanbases may come into play to determine who goes where. Who has the most fans in the Pac-12?

We're All Thinking about Football Right Now
Haywarduck replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm not thinking about this at all. I feel like Jerry in this episode. Everything was fine and all of the sudden I come home and..... Please take all this out of here! -
Great stuff, I was taught luck was opportunity and preparedness meeting at the same intersection, same time. One must be ready, prepared and moving in the right direction. Sitting around will get you run over. I am afraid that is what has happened to George. The Pac-12 just got run over, not prepared, and not moving in the right direction. Much like the dawgs, all you are left with is excuses.

More Confusing Bits of News...but There is HOPE
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
All this is just background noise to me. The Ducks are going to play football this fall, the leaves on the trees are getting ready for the inevitable. It isn't like the football team is going to begin playing soccer in Europe! I really don't care much about this mess, figure it out and let me know. -
Pretty sure this is a video from this year, but it probably could have been a few years back too.

Time for George to earn his keep. The conference and his job are up in smoke if this really gets lit and smoke become fire.

Dallas Cowboys Select LB Noah Sewell 1st Round In Mock Draft
Haywarduck replied to Smith72's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I half expect the next article to go on to predict he will be on the NFL all rookie team, and get third place in the NFL rookie of the year voting. I think we just have to admit it is time for August, maybe even September, not just July coming tomorrow. Some of these preseason, pre next season predictions are almost comical.- 1 reply

Oregon Recruit: 5-Star QB Dante Moore Puts on a Show
Haywarduck replied to Tandaian's topic in Our Beloved Ducks

Agree, MariØ is still picking fruits he was after for a while. I imagine he will have plenty of talent to pay attention to down in Florida over the next few years. No doubt MariØ will continue to impress. It will be interesting to see how the program does around year 4-5, IMHO.

How Many 5-Stars is Lanning After?
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Sark and MariØ are stellar recruiters with questionable coaching records. Sark has been handed elite programs all his life. Lanning is a stellar recruiter, who just might pull off the coaching trick. Just imagine an elite recruiter who can actually coach, the magic formula. Go Ducks! -
Remember how highly the dawgs were ranked, and perceived last preseason? They then went out and lost to Montana at home to start the season. Let's let them win a few things which really don't matter. The recruiting battle, before anyone has signed, that is fine. Preseason ranking before any games have been played, almost comical. They will hang their hats on these few metrics and complain about how unfair college football is. We will focus on the bigger picture and solve the problems ahead of us. In the end the dawgs will continue to be who they are, and we will continue to become who we are destined to be.

Will Oregon’s Offense Instantly Improve Under Dillingham?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I don't really need it to improve, that was the problem with what MariØ was selling. We just need our offense to return. We may have metrics which we will use to judge if the Oregon offense is better under Dilly, I won't be following any of them. What I say is, using one of the great phrases ever produced, we will know it when we see it. I also think we saw it in the spring game, so I can comfortably answer the question yes, if what we saw in the spring game continues. -
Two Potential Pac-12 Trap Games For the Ducks
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I am a bit concerned about the game in corn valley at the end of the season. Smith is building the most under appreciated program in the Pac-12, and a game against the Ducks might be where Smith puts his name out there as the level of coach he is. If there is a rivalry game out there which hasn't gotten the attention it deserves, it is the, well, I don't know what to call it, but it is a dangerous game, and may become the rivalry game with two programs with a huge history. I might add by the end of the season the big variable, injuries may rear it's ugly head. If there is one big factor which can swing games it is one team with a head of steam, and another with the injury bug. I hope this isn't the case, but it is a scenario we may want to be cognizant about.
