  1. I think great teaching can be summed up with Lannings, 'so what, now what?, or my favorites 'that is a terrible idea, what time?' Our previous staff seemed to be of the ilk of saying never do that, and never deviate from a very set amount of proven ideas. I am off to go do something most people would think is a terrible idea, or maybe say, grow up, nope! I take Friday afternoons off to do something crazy, and try and stay young.
  2. With all due respect, the guy had the #1 draft pick on one side and the #13 pick on the other who took on two guys. Those guys are gone, and we have their coach! We also lose our best defensive player, but he didn't play all the time and another of our extremely talented player saw extremely limited time. I just think there are many question marks for both teams defenses, and that is what makes it even more exciting. I like our defense, but can give great respect to Jalen Carter! We do have a couple guys at 6' 3" and over 300lbs on our D-line too getting 1% better each day!
  3. Brilliant move, love it as it brings us back to our roots. Once again we are doing what a coach has been dreaming about doing without reverence to what has been done, or what others think we should do. Much like the hurry up offense, I hope this pisses off a few programs. Maybe Saban will even chime in and say it isn't fair. Brings me to my favorite quote from Saban, which hasn't aged too well, because hurry up has led us to where we are. "I just think there's got to be some sense of fairness in terms of asking is this what we want football to be?"
  4. Great stuff Alex, but when you put Slick and Mario on the list of coaches who put the foundation on Oregon, I have to comment. Brooks, Bellotti and Chip Kelly put the foundation in, built the walls and put the roof on this program. Slick and Mario just saw what was here and got some excellent student athletes to realize what an awesome program the others had built. We are still waiting for somebody to actually build on what was created. What was built was an exciting, innovative program we are again seeing at least appreciated with some of the great players, coaches and Phil Knight attending practices. We will know if no half measures are being used once the scoreboard lights up like it use too. We will also see a team execute with passion and intelligence, which will again extend to the sideline. Lastly I think it is time to stop kicking Anthony Brown. The young man was a warrior for the Oregon Program. He was being led by somebody who was more like the Japanese in the Battle of Midway. A foreign general who was ill prepared to win. We got rid of our Yamamoto and we shouldn't blame those who bravely fought for our program. I do agree by the time Utah shows up the program should be up and running like a champ. Until then and through that game we should continue to believe in what Lanning is working to create, actually build on, The Oregon Program, and all it stands for.
  5. Probably a young man who we have for 3 years to play football before goes pro. If he is that good, play him for 3 years. Agreee, it also doesn't hurt showing you talented kids they can play early if they put in the work at Oregon.
  6. Are they playing man to man, or zone defense? Wait, what position are these guys playing? Brilliant move by our maestro!
  7. And the day after, we will all begin to know, just what has been all wrapped up under the tree!
  8. Caleb Williams will probably be the best qb on the field, but it will hard to show it when he is laying on his back, and then on the sideline.
  9. Yes Cota was part of the Gang Green defense, but the facts are we lost in the 1995 Rose Bowl. We didn't win the 1994 Rose Bowl. It was a massive moment for the program to finally get back to the Rose Bowl. The Gang Green defense outdid the much vaunted desert swarm from Arizona, who made the cover of SI. We came up short against Penn State, but it was a moment where the program turned the corner. The 1994 season, and the 1995 Rose Bowl may rank up there as one of the most important times in Oregon Football history.
  10. I like it, tip of the iceberg, or tip of the sword of offensive weapons we will see skewer the opposing defenses this year. It is definitely time to put down the.sledgehammer as an offensive weapon. I look forward to our offense taking flight again.
  11. I am one of the biggest fans, supporters and defenders of Rich Brooks. What he was able to do, with what he had was phenomenal, end of story. It is with great respect I compare Brooks to Whittingham, not a perfect comparison, but they are comparable. Utah should be and I am sure the vast majority are very proud of what Whittingham has done, much like at Oregon with Brooks.
  12. Great article, and an even better subject to write on. The only question, is head coach of a D1 program his dream job? Does he have dreams of coaching in the NFL? If he becomes extremely successful at Oregon the next challenge may rise up. I doubt it would be at another college, but will the next level challenge ever make Coach Lanning wonder? For now we have an amazing coach, and one we need to remember lost to Alabama in the SEC championship game. We also need to remember he came back and shut down Alabama when it counted. The game next Saturday is important, but someday when it really matters he knows how to rise up and win. That is what I will keep my eyes on!
  13. A good defensive coach has been our Kryptonite, especially under our no o era. We now have a good defensive coach, and I think a new chapter has begun. I can't wait to start reading the first chapter. I have the book preordered and I have a guaranteed arrival date of next Saturday. I am sure I will be reading that first chapter over and over for years to come. I predict it will become a best seller!
  14. Yes, and was cut by the seagulls before he was cut the the 49ers.
  15. I agree with Charles, I wish Lanning all the luck in the world, and if he is successful the pro game would seem the next challenge. I am not sure who would want to get behind the shadow Saban will have at Alabama. As far as Whittingham he is a great coach, right up there with Brooks. The Oregon program took a lot of steps after Brooks to get where we are. I don't see Utah making those leaps.
  16. Sorry if the guy getting his tooth pulled looked like Mario, not intentional.
  17. For now I can only look forward to being called delusional after we win a national championship, but I can guarantee I will be. I do admit to being delusional, and now it is only our preseason.
  18. I think Devon may be a poster boy for what can go wrong with the star rating system. A kid who is told he is so talented, is prone to these kind of mistakes. He went to sc instead of Oregon, first mistake. He then leaves Oregon a year early instead of learning his craft another year, second mistake. I just hope he has learned it takes hard work to be successful no matter how skilled you are. I was fortunate to have very little skill at anything, and learned everything took hard work :)!
  19. And the crazy path of former 5* receiver Devon Williams continues its zig zag course. He was let go by the Ravens, but with that much talent, if he stays with it he just might make a roster and spend some time in the NFL. Way to go Anthony Brown, what a warrior!
  20. He took off too soon 'after' the gun went off, what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A travesty, but Devon is moving on and he is going to be extremely successful. The same can be said for the Oregon Football Program if they renew QBU, along with using the track speed which helped make it all possible.
  21. Just the same, a beautiful story which hopefully has pages of compelling reading going forward. Congrats to Kelly Kay, all the strength and luck going forward!
  22. And we use to be the school which used track speed to stretch the field. I love hearing we figured out who the fastest TE was. It is now time to create matchup nightmares based on our speed, again.
  23. Oregon made qb's look better than they were, in the past. Our recent past we made qb's look worse than they were. One has to look at Joey Harrington, selected third overall and floundered in the NFL. I suppose the Lions had a part in his demise, but he didn't turn into an elite NFL qb after his storied college career. Anthony Brown is our recent history, as you stated. A guy who doesn't get drafted, because he looked so terrible at Oregon, is lighting it up in Baltimore. We wanted him benched, turns out because the coaches made him look so lousy. Qb's look good because they have confidence they can win it all. Masoli came to the program with just that attitude, and skill level. I have a feeling others have come with the same attitude, but it has been destroyed, not developed. Hopefully this staff can help our two young guys recover some of their mojo. If not it will be a tough year and then onto Moore. Right now it is qb recovery time, with Nix and the others. Can Dilly rehab both the abilities and confidence of these three qb's who have floundered?
  24. I suppose we could ask who is the all-time great without just looking at who leads in statistic totals. Marcus crushes all the boxes, but just about every qb on that list I would love to see lined up behind center in two weeks. I look forward to seeing another added to that list. Agree DAT is an all-time great, who would you put ahead of him in space with the ball in his hands? Also agree Bobby Moore should be all-time in a couple of positions. I still remember being down on the field collecting chin straps and seeing those guys up close. Bobby Moore, and Dan Fouts where, well, legendary Ducks! I think I was about 3' tall at the time.
  25. I am pretty sure spellcheck changed Greenwood to Greenwood, see! I have a love, hate relationship with spellcheck, mostly hate.
