  1. Another read at this great article. Strap yourselves in, this is going to be a really rough ride. Mr. FishDuck, your contract with us is unbreakable. We won't survive this without you.
  2. Yes. You said it even more succinctly earlier when you talked about everyone looking out for their own self interests. You said that we all do it, but it is the way a person actually does it that matters.
  3. Arrrgghh! I can't erase it. I will always carry in my twisted mind an image of Scott Frost sitting in the stands stuffing his face with nachos. When he should have been coaching our struggling offense to just put up a measly 3 points in the second half.
  4. Thank you Mike Ostrom and Mike Whitmire for this great article. What a way to finish it with the "Firecrackers", a much welcomed touch of hilarity!
  5. If MC is "playing" Oregon and Phil Knight then I hope he leaves tomorrow. However, when I read Canzano's article I don't see an absolute confirmation that the contract was indeed actually "pulled": "Athletic department officials at Oregon and Cristobal’s representatives would not confirm that detail. It may be a matter of semantics (did he turn it down or was it pulled when he didn’t sign it?) Knight isn’t speaking, either." In fact, Canzano later goes on to say that MC could still be considering both offers, making it sound like the Oregon offer is still on the table: "It may be entirely possible that Oregon’s coach is agonizing over two contract offers -- similar dollars and years but in different zip codes." But Canzano is absolutely right about this being a "Soap Opera" and it has gone on too long and I am now at the Rhett Butler stage at the end of Gone With The Wind with this whole ugly mess: Scarlett: "Oh Rhett, but what will I do? Where will I go?" Rhett: "FRANKLY MY DEAR, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN."
  6. Thank you for all the kind remarks regarding my post on MC to all my fellow Duck buddies. While I am not a native Oregonian, I have had the privilege and honor of having good friends who are. And you have all made me a better man. If this from Mat Kearney sends chills down my spine based upon the incredible time I lived in beautiful Oregon, what must it do to you? You True Men and Women of Oregon! Go Ducks!
  7. Although I am a proud Duck Alum, I am not an Oregonian, so I won’t be able to feel the same magnitude intense passion that my fellow Duck fans who are Oregonians do. In the early 60’s I had my first Café Cubano while living in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida, and attending a year of high school there. Years later I lived for a short time in Key West with my Cuban-American girlfriend. On October 27 this year of FishDuck I posted: “Thing is, I really believe MC would take Miami if the price is right. I doubt that there is no way a second-generation Cuban-American who won two NCs in his own home town would turn down going home to his roots and his family.” Later, unfortunately for the Cristobal family, his mother in Miami has become very ill. Videos, and screenshots of him today appear to show a man whose soul is tortured. Some will consider him a traitor, and be pissed off at him. Some will think it’s only about the Benjamins. Not me. IMHO, going home is what is right for him, and for his family. I am disappointed to lose such a strong recruiter, and a man who helped restore this program to national prominence. Sure, the offense never really worked, and that was his failing. However, he put his heart and soul into Oregon while he was there; and he did it with integrity, moral exactitude, and was all about living every day the right way. Oregon is not his home. His home is where his family lives, and where he grew up to be such an incredible man. I wish him Godspeed. And I look forward to our Ducks growing even more awesome.
  8. OBD FishDuck Oregon Sports Community be like Zen...
  9. Thanks to 30Duck, earlier today we saw the tweet about MC's visit with recruit Cyrus Moss. In a SI article that includes the tweet, there are some very interesting remarks about the visit. "Talked about what’s going on. Really just caught up from there. Kind of just talked with Cristobal a little bit just to get a little bit of confidence on remaining with the squad. That was really good and I felt good leaving that. It was a great visit." Cristobal's coaching future was the main focus of Friday night's postgame press conference, and I asked Moss what he was told about the head coach's future. The Vegas product also mentioned how a lot has been inferred by the media about the coaching carousel, which can cloud what's really going on across the country. "Just basically that I can definitely have confidence that coach [Cristobal] is going to be super loyal to the Oregon program. I can have confidence that Coach Cristobal is standing strong by the Oregon program," he said. "Miami still has tons of work to do in that regard so he’s not close to any decision with them or moving anywhere. He seems like he’s pretty set.” https://www.si.com/college/oregon/recruiting/cyrus-moss-recaps-in-home-visit-with-mario-cristobal-and-staff
  10. “ I hope Cristobal wants to continue to be a winner at Oregon, and make a lot of money, but not stupid money.”
  11. Is going into a "Subscription" site a helpful way to support the site without destroying completely the amazing participation success this site is having?
  12. Jon, you are always the voice of reason, and with a much more comprehensive understanding of the issues than I will ever be. I understand that what I am proposing is a sign of how crazy I am.
  13. And it's that aspect of the "game", that the older I became, the less interesting Pro football is for me. From a rabid, beer swilling fan of the Saints at the Superdome in the 80's-90's while living in New Orleans, I now can literally NOT watch any Pro football. (Maybe because I had to stop drinking?) As CFB trends more deeply into the "professional enterprise", (maybe when recruiting includes competing for "salaries"?)….I will no longer follow even OBD. I can't believe I said that.
  14. Maybe the "it's hard to beat the same team twice in the same season" idea isn't so hard? I like it that In his press conference MC mentioned that one of Utah's characteristics is that they play with a "violence". That is terrific motivation. These poor folks' ceiling is dreaming just to get to a Rose Bowl. Let's keep'em dreaming. How tough, really, is beating the same team twice in the same season? https://www.deseret.com/2021/11/30/22807846/utah-utes-oregon-ducks-and-how-tough-beating-same-team-twice-in-the-same-season-pac-12-title-game
  15. The sad thing to me is that I agree with everyone's point of view in this discussion. We are damned if we do, and damned if we don't. The whole "business" is all out of control. Then there's the "Dead Money" phenomenon that is even crazier. (And here I always thought that was just the title of my favorite Fallout New Vegas DLC). It's insane when the President of a University has to tell an agent who told him not to talk the Coach, but to only go through the agent, that "Listen, this person works for me. I don't have to go through you." Sometimes I think that we Greybeards have seen too much. It all stinks. FBS schools spent over $533.6 million in dead money over 10+ years https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32552130/schools-spent-5336-million-dead-money
  16. What with the amounts being paid to Kelly, Tucker, and Riley, it's my humble opinion that Oregon needs to immediately restructure Cristobal's contract upwards to at least 9 million a year. I know. Sounds crazy. But not to me.
  17. ...."first of all the jets are a lot faster than that.." ...."It's all good Man."
