Is it just me? Have I exceeded my lifetime free articles from OregonLive? I'm getting a subscribe for only $100.  Not going to happen.

I think they give you 3 free ones a month.  Same with Seattle Times, I wasted two on the same article about lake's comments.  One on my laptop and the other desktop so I would read the 174 negative comments.  One left for after our victory Sat.

  2. With the Ducks ahead of OSU, if both win out, hopefully the committee follows their protocols and Oregon’s H2H win trumps (small “t”) their possible strength of schedule advantage at the end of the year. Of course, a 2 L Big 10 champ eliminates the ESPN/Herbstreit bias, and a 1 L Big 12 champ would be nice also.

Of course, the Big 12 having 10 teams and the Big 10 having 12 should count for a loss regardless based upon their math skills, or lack there of.

Then, we have to see if an undefeated Cinderllannati makes it as bone thrown to the gang of 5.

So, besides having the Ducks go 12 -1 leading up to the Bowl/CFP season, do you prefer a Rose Bowl appearance or a CFP appearance?

In the past there has been debate about being ready for the CFP and whether a Rose Bowl appearance is better than “an exposure” CFP loss.

For me it is the CFP as I think that is/should be the goal every year with the Rose Bowl a consolation prize. Kinda like the Huskies hoping for the Sun Bowl each year, and settling for one of ESPN’s Gasparilla, First Responders or Armed Forces Bowls.

Plus, I think recruits want to be on CFP teams/contenders as opposed to Sun Bowl type teams (see above).

Bottom line for me is that this year I am turning off my Strawberry Alarm Clock so as to not wake-up from my Green and Yellow Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test Cocktail and a 15 - 1 record ..... #15 being the back-to-back Georgia wins to start the 2022 season!!!!

No sweat.  I like to use my pull as a 35 year season ticket holder and Oregon Sports Media Credentialed site for our OBD members when I can.  I will call them in the morning--my contacts.  I want you in the stadium to be a part of "Shout" that happens at the end of third quarter.  Every Oregon fan should experience that before they throw dirt on you...

  4. According to Scott Eklund at 247/7 sports among the list of reasons ....

    ACADEMICS

Right now this is the hot answer to give when a recruit is asked about what he's looking for in a program. Lots of kids say academics are their first priority, yet they go on to spurn top-rated academic institutions, who also have very good football programs, to sign with "football factories" whose academics aren't on par with the schools they also had committable offers from.

This is not an indictment of the prospects or the process, it is up to the coaching staffs at each school to promote their program and brand and show them why they need to sign with their school. However, some fans have a hard time understanding why kids choose schools when they have stated many times that they are looking for a school with strong academics. While it's important in the grand scheme of the decision-making process and the overall picture, being a top-rated academic institution plays a very small part in where a prospect decides to sign.

  5. Washington doesn’t consider Oregon a recruiting rival.

“I don’t think so,” Lake said. “I think that is way more pumped up than it is. Our battles are really – the schools that we go against are way more — have academic prowess, like the University of Washington; Notre Dame, Stanford, USC. We go with a lot of battles toe-to-toe all the way to the end with those schools. So I think that’s made up a lot and pumped up in your world. In our world, we battle more academically prowess teams.”

    Per Oregonian https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2021/11/jimmy-lake-washington-isnt-battling-oregon-in-recruiting-huskies-competing-with-more-academically-prowess-teams.html

Looks like he might be tempering the disappointment of 3 in a row and what, 14 out of 16?

  6. Four-star wide receiver Nicholas Anderson tripped out to Oklahoma this past weekend for a visit and ended up flipping his verbal commitment. per https://247sports.com/college/oregon/Article/Oregon-Ducks-Football-Recruiting-174345822/

Ok by me as:  1) It doesn't appear to be a position of need; 2) Wasn't due to the Duck product on the field, a brother on the other team and the other team a top program also.

  7. In the last 2½ games, we have finally seen consistency from AB.

This coincides with Moorehead missing the Stanford game and being in the booth for Cal, UCLA and CU.

And maybe he was “in the booth” for the Stanford game watching from his hospital bed.

We have to remember that Moorehead really didn’t have a year with AB in 2020 as: 1) Covid SEVERELY limited their time together; and, 2) Tyler Slough was the 1st teamer.

So now, after 5½ weeks (starting with the second half of the Cal game) Moorehead has a complete picture of what AB can and cannot not due.  The play calling has dramatically changed to mainly use AB strengths.

Ohio State was the anomaly, but that may have been due to Moorehead game planning ahead of time what he thought would work best and it just coincided with AB’s strengths.

  8. Here are the protocols from when the championship was established.  Clear as mud.  Although there is a great bullet point "Strength of schedule, head‐to‐head competition and championships won must be specifically applied as tie‐breakers between teams that look similar"

Too bad Mullens isn't still on the committee as I am not sure we have any voice now.

  9. On Tuesday when the first rankings come out, Oregon should be ahead of OSU based upon a tougher schedule so far and a H2H win.  We'll see if the committee holds true to their past saying H2H matters.  I think another OSU loss helps us tremendously as long as the Big10 champ is undefeated.

I'm not sure that the B12 will end up with a TV contract less than that of the Ducks? BYU has a nationwide following. Houston is a huge media market. Cincinnati is a decent sized market as is Orlando and UCF and Cincinnati will be bringing in additional eye balls from the eastern time zone.

I agree the Pac-12 will come nowhere close to the B1G and the SEC in the new media deal. But I believe expansion could have closed the gap more than will the Pac-12 negotiating as-is?

I also believe that with expansion the Network could have been brought to solvency and made a decent target for a buy out with the conference splitting the proceeds.

You are fine with standing pat? I get it. I hope it works out in the long run but I don't see it?

Recruiting #s for Oregon are fine. For the rest of the conference? They stink.

Mario is the best recruiter in CFB. In the long run, what happens to recruiting once Mario departs?

I reiterate, I think the conference made the easy decision to stand pat which looks good in a number of ways today. But IMO this decision will not help the conference and the Ducks in the long run.

Hoping Mario is here for the long run, 10+ years.  If so, when he is gone, we have learned that recruiting ability should be #1 on the new coaches resume.  And hopefully, as in the past, there is someone within to promote.
