  1. Here's an idea: lets give him a chance....lets see how the players react. After all, all great head coaches were at one time coordinators and after the silliness about say Wilcox or for good grief a one year Bellotti deal how about we see what he has to offer.....If Lanning's the guy lets back him up....hell, he might be great.
  2. Lanning's probably the closest thing to Brandon Staley out there.....so there's that.
  3. Mario showed you could bring top flight talent to Eugene in large numbers and he left the roster stacked.....Chip on the other hand can coach. Love him or hate him he can coach. Based on what we're hearing at this point I'd gladly take Chip, encourage him to get some recruiting type coordinators and let's see where we're at in three years.....cause if the incoming coach plays three yards and a cloud of dust grandpa's style offense Autzen will be a wasteland....and he'll lose. Today's kids want wide open make the defense defend the entire field style offense.....they want to throw it all over the field and coaches that do that will attract those type of players.......and it's fun to watch.
  4. I read that Rhule dumped Brady because Brady wanted to pass more and Rhule wanted to run more.....I'll take Brady.
  5. "According to Canzano, Oregon just asked for permission to interview Justin Wilcox" Would rather have Chip....Wilcox seems like a nice guy but all he brings is being an Oregon guy....in this day and age that's not near enough.....Wilcox and Campbell, who's offense looks more boring than MC, shouldn't be considered. Should either be hired it will be complete surrender - to mediocrity....and the decommits will explode.
  6. Shambles?...the roster is basically stacked. And young....if I recall about half the roster are freshmen and another quarter sophs....wasn't Oregon the youngest power 5 team in the country?....get a high flying coach and they'll stay. If they can hold the current roster and keep half the incoming class they'll be good to go assuming they can get a top notch coach. And I don't get the Chip bashing. The guy can coach and if he wants to come back why not? He'd probably be here for years and his lack of recruiting chops can be salvaged by a coaching staff of guys who can recruit......and one thing about Kelly he'll run a wide open entertaining offense.....Kiffin, Kelly, Aranda or the Alabama OC all should work.
  7. Fentress defended the Anthony Brown mess.....and Wilcox will bring mediocrity to the team. If you're gonna be a big-boy program you gotta get a big-boy coach. MC recruited all over the country and that has to be the standard.....there's no reason to settle for less unless. This will come as a shock to some on this site but being a big Oregon Duck fan and being a big "state of Oregon fan" aren't the same thing.....left years ago and never regretted it....there are better places....much better places. That said I hope the Ducks find a coach that can elevate the program and move it forward.
  8. "Decommits and portal activity about to explode" Maybe.....maybe not. This is a young talented group....if they're smart they'll wait to see who's hired. They may like what they see and based on the way they played - everything from effort to body language - it's possible a substantial portion of the team may not have been on board with MC's offense, in particular the AB decision.....they need to see what's next. They can transfer anytime.
  9. Aranda, Fickell or Chip....Peterson's been a Dawg which automatically disqualifies him and Matt Campbell's offense looks like MC's....no, no, no to these two.
  10. MC's a good guy.....and he was good for the kids. And now he gets huge money to go back home and be with family while coaching at his alma amter? No rational person can blame him for this and we should wish him the best as he showed us proof positive that big time recruits will come to Oregon in large numbers. None of this Wilcox or Helfrich or Homer type stuff that Oregonians are prone to (sorry but they are)...coaches will always leave eventually but MC left this program stacked with good players and now they need to go after an aggressive young coach who runs an up-tempo wide open preferably pro style offense and entice the current players and commits to stay. Yes easier said then done but is it? Think Luke Fickell would listen?...Or the Carolina Panthers just fired OC?....Oregon's got a lot to offer so go big and go fast and good luck. PS...can't prove it but I suspect MC may have lost the locker room with the AB decision. If we can see his deficiencies certainly the players can....and this "the young guys aren't ready" garbage is just that - garbage. No freshman is ready ...reminds me of the Chargers coach Anthony Lynn saying last year Herbert was a "back-up for a reason".
  11. MC will go to Miami.....and he should. Oregon needs to get back to playing Oregon football cause this is just ridiculous. Let all the coaches walk and do what USC did - get a top end coach, one who would have never given AB the time of day. What a dumpster fire this has become.
  12. Take it to the bank.....if MC insists on this 1960's brand of football - sorry Charles, it's boring, unimaginative and the kids at the 7 on 7 camps ain't gonna sit on the bench at Oregon yawning while Lincoln's throwing the ball all over the field - he's gonna be a distant second in recruiting. In fact I'll say it right up front: if MC doesn't bring in an OC who runs a 21st century offense that's pass oriented MC will be gone in a couple of years (he may be gone by choice in the next week).....I like MC and want him to succeed but kids want to play a certain style of ball and they'll go where that style is played.....we'll see.
  13. A lot of conjecture going on so I'll add mine: MC plays Brown because MC wants to run the ball between the tackles 65% of the time and Brown's obvious limitations let him justify it....for all MC's strengths he doesn't do down the field aerial football. If he doesn't change he'll lose the locker room....and his skill players. If I'm Thompson and Butterfield and some of those young 4 star receivers for that matter the first thing I'm doing when the season's over is marching into MC's office and asking him one question point blank: "Next year are you going to bag this RPO garbage and the constant running between the tackles and instill a pro-style spread the field and throw the ball down the field offense with a 60-40 pass to run ratio yes or no?"....if the answer's no I'm immediately in the transfer portal. Don't be surprised if something along these lines happens....these guys aren't here to sit on the bench and watch inferior talented game managers run ground and pound. They have NFL aspirations and if transferring furthers those aspirations they'll do it.....and they should. Jon Joseph above got it right - Ohio State played their freshman, he wasn't ready because no freshman is, and now he's playing great and next year they'll have a stacked roster like Oregon (if things hold) and an experienced QB unlike Oregon....this team will finish with 3 losses and little to show because MC doesn't do 21st century offense.....problem is the recruits do....being stubborn when you're right is to be commended....being stubborn when you're wrong has consequences and I suspect the Mycah Pittman defection is a canary in the coal mine kind of thing...we'll see.
