  1. I think the admin needs to be aware of the potential culture fits moving forward. The Oregon job has a ton to offer, but it is 100 miles to the nearest major city which isn't ideal for everyone. Have got to find someone that not only wants to coach the ducks, but wants to raise their family/live in Eugene.
  2. I am curious what personnel control he had. Was it him or mario that was so resistant to trying out another option under center?
  3. There is a powerful draw to both locations, for different reasons, and both locations have a solid financial deal on the table for him from the sounds of it. Will be a couple days with a lot of refreshes happening on the respective information sources for both fan bases.
  4. Perhaps, but Radakovich is also a Miami Alum, so perhaps it was just him liking the opportunity to go back to his alma mater and not a coastal focus.
  5. I believe that extension recently was auto triggered based on win total from a contract clause, if that is what you are referring to. I think it is something to the effect of when 9 wins is reached it automatically extends it one year, or something to that effect. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
  6. Definitely agree, however I am trying not to ignore that things like this can be in motion for some time, waiting for the right moment, and well hidden if done correctly (see USC). And while these are facts today, it doesn't guarantee they will still hold true Saturday morning, as they change with a pen stroke.
  7. There is a ceiling in the form of Alabama and Georgia in the SEC at the moment, with other potential giants that are currently sleeping in the form of Florida and LSU. There is the building challenge of TAMU and future bumps in the road of Texas and Oklahoma. He could go 6-6 next year there and that doesn't even mean his team is bad. I am not saying anyone should be running scared from a job at ole miss necessarily, but I think if you are the right coach and can get the right support going, getting to the CFP is going to be easier basically anywhere else at the moment. If reaching the CFP is goal 1, I think it is arguable that it is more likely to happen at an ACC or PAC school.
  8. Thank you for sharing! I agree very much with the reasons he has to be content, and that a contract correction to reflect the current market should be underway if that part is accurate. That said, and this isn't exclusive to this situation, I think it should never be a stunning turn of events for someone to take an opportunity to return to their original community and coach at their alma mater. That draw is real for a lot of people regardless of the profession. I would however be stunned if he took a job anywhere but Miami, personally.
  9. While you may be absolutely correct I think you are omitting a few not insignificant possible draws for MC. These are some key differences, excluding money and facilities: He may want to be closer to his other family members as well (and wife's family) He may have always wanted to lead his college alma mater considering his experience as a student athlete there. He may want to be in a community with more people that share his culture/heritage (Cuban-American) He may want his kids to go to the same prestigious private high school he did (Columbus) He may prefer a large city over a small city He may prefer having the most fertile recruiting ground a drive away as opposed to a flight away. While it would be tough to lose what I consider a really strong fit for the Oregon job, I could see leaving for these reasons assuming the money was reasonably comparable. I certainly won't think of him as a traitor or less of a contributor for the turnaround under his watch.
  10. 4 million is all of the sudden a small salary when you are talking about a coach that is capable of winning a power 5 conference annually with recruiting prowess and a decent coordinator up to this point. I can understand not wanting to pay him over ten like some of these new contracts, but he should probably be at around at least 8/year unless the decision makers think they can find someone who will win more games for less. The market has decided what a high end coach is worth, it was a wild jump, but the jump happened and any school that values their staff needs to be prepared to be competitive or lose the coach. It would be foolish to expect someone to leave millions of dollars per year on the table, and I wouldn't fault them if they chose not to do so.
  11. I agree. I think the last three seasons records at Akron are 0-12, 1-5, and 2-10. If he can get them to bowl eligibility and show his system be effective over the next 2-3 seasons he will all of the sudden be a name on some short lists for a power five job looking to make a change.
  12. Inviting and livable is subjective. Not everyone prefers a small college city feel.
  13. They won’t, never have (the orange bowl was not on campus) and never will. There isn’t space and Coral Gables wouldn’t allow it if there was. It is a small private school, students wouldn’t fill it up on campus because there aren’t many students. Attendance issues have everything to do with team performance and competition for attention in the city of Miami. It isn’t a college town, you have to earn money and time with the on-field product on a Saturday when your attendance isn’t alumni driven and you aren’t the only show in town, or the region for that matter.
  14. I can appreciate what you are saying here completely. But who is the test of loyalty really to if the other party is your home town, your family, your community, and your alma mater? I think if removed from the situation, the perspective on this could be that it isn’t a slight on UO.
  15. Miami is not without billionaires in their booster ranks. And there has never been a time like now that a desire to change course has been shared amongst the president, a large contingent of the BOT, and the alumni/boosters. It has not been a matter of having money, it has been a matter of willingness to spend it. Mario is not unhappy in Eugene, but in order to stay it should be expected that he will have a significantly better contract. He will be the number one candidate at Miami when the AD is in place, and they are not going to assume he will take a pay cut relative to his value to come home.
