  1. I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, FBS CFB is all just a business now -- for the schools, coaches, and kids. You try to make the best decision available. I'm glad he still had a chair at Fresno State, though, when the music stopped playing.
  2. Remember who we play in our first game next year? To be honest, not until you asked me. Hmmm...
  3. People rise to new levels of responsibility all the time, but there's a lot more to being a HC than calling the plays on Saturdays. Absolutely. I think that one of the reasons Bellotti and Kelly did it so successfully is that they were already in the Oregon program. Already knowing the program, staff, boosters, internal politics, etc, makes a huge difference.
  4. Thank you for saving me the time of having to come up with what you just wrote! Spot on.
  5. I don't know about that. I'm pretty sure Mullens checks out my comments before making any moves or decisions.
  6. Sounds a bit like what we said that last couple times around. Please tell me that we have better management running the show than this.
  7. I know it's just a rumor right now regarding Lanning, but seriously? Can't this program get a guy who has previously been a successful D1 coach somewhere with a winning record? And this time, I'd really like to find a head coach whose first play called is not a time out. I'm just sayin'. C'mon man!
  8. Taggart & Cristobal And overall losing records. If we actually go with another guy with no previous head coaching experience, it would really show that we're not as great a program as most Ducks think we are.
  9. I will always be grateful for the four years he gave us. But Chip's time has passed.
  10. "Was Mullens prepared for this?" I think Mullens might still be waiting for that 'heads-up' call from the non-existent Miami AD.
  11. YES. Absolutely. His name was so far off of my radar that he never remotely crossed my mind. He'd be my #1 pick... by a mile.
  12. Newbie here and I wanted to apologize for already unintentionally violating the rules. In regard to attracting a coach to Oregon, I made comment regarding some of the severe social (aka. political) issues going on in Oregon. While I believe the comments were relevant and factual, until later, I did not realize they were in violation of policy. I appreciate and understand why you have the policy and will do better going forward. I'm certainly enjoying what you have created here. Thank you.
  13. For once in my lifetime, I’d just like to see Oregon hire a coach who: 1) Has actually been a D1 level head coach. 2) Has a winning D1 record. It’s been 70 years since we hired a head coach who met these criteria (Don Read was 20-19 at Portland State… as in, Portland State). At this point in our program’s history, isn’t Oregon worthy of at least this much? I’m now on the Kiffin wagon. I’d even take him for just four years. The guy has had a winning record at every college he’s been to. I think it's time to "show Lane the money" and let the recruiting begin.
  14. I mean no disrespect, but FBS College Football is no longer "Your Father's Oldsmobile" -- and really hasn't been for at least a couple decades. I personally don't like what money has done to it, but I have no control over that. Athletes and their Mommies and Daddies really should wake up and smell the coffee. Almost without exception, head-coaches will tell them exactly they want/need to hear. Friends... FBS College Football is a massive, multi-billion-dollar business and now operates accordingly. That's the beginning, middle and end of the story.
  15. $8 million, plus around another 50% to cover MC's income tax on that. $12 million-ish... just to cover MC's buyout alone. Ouch.
  16. "I don't think that even back then Santa Clara was considered D1 level" I was wrong about this. Santa Clara was considered the equivalent of a D1 level program back then.
  17. Sheesh... I was just a bit outside on that one. I was off a year on my first game... I was at that 1974 66-0 loss. Unfortunately, I missed our 1973 58-0 win. That must have been wonderful.
  18. "Casanova beat Bear Bryant's Kentucky in the 1950 Orange Bowl, they were a top program under Cas" Great catch, and I stand corrected. Santa Clara was considered the equivalent of a D1 program during that period. Cas was definitely well respected and he had an overall winning record during his 16 years at Oregon. And as I mentioned previously, prior to Oregon, his head coaching experience was 4 years at Santa Clara, and 1 year at Pitt.
  19. It's sometimes easy for us to get "blinded by the light." Okay... I know that's just bad and I'll stop now. I definitely took that a bridge too far.
  20. Excellent comments. However, I respectfully disagree regarding your Chris Peterson assessment while he was HC at UW. If I look at the bigger picture, in the 10 years prior to his arrival at UW, their program had a horrific 57-76 / 43% winning record, and not a single BCS bowl (and who can forget those wonderful Husky seasons during this period of 1-10, 2-9, and 0-12... not that I'm bitter or anything 😉 ). Under Peterson's tenure, from 2014-2019, they were 55-26 / 68% winning record, won 2 PAC12 Championships, and went to 2 BCS bowl games (albeit, losing both games). To me it appears Peterson stopped the bleeding and, based upon where the Husky program had been the previous 10 years, was quite successful.
  21. MC is going to get that new stadium right about at the same time pigs fly out of a very unlikely place 😉
  22. Yikes... great point. But given the incredible lack of resources (read: "Money") our program had back then, I'm not sure anyone was going to be very successful coaching at Oregon.
