Sounds very encouraging coming from a player unscripted. I'm not as down on MC as many here, but I can't ignore those letdown games (especially Utah twice) where the team just didn't look prepared or motivated. That falls on the coach and I just have to wonder if burn-out didn't play a role. To make hard work fun is what makes motivators on the field or on the job great.
That said, it's spring and we're still in the honeymoon period. We'll see how morale holds up come November.

Newspapers and print media in general are a dying breed, can't blame journalists for exploring other options. It's got to be tough for traditional journalists, anyone with an internet connection can gain a following.
I never cared much for Canzano, but I have to admit he's mellowed with age and he is well-connected. He was spot on about Larry Scott and probably played a role in his ouster.
Nemec and recruiting in general don't interest me too much except near signing day(s). So what if 2024 4* so and so puts Oregon in his top 10. Yawn.

DGU and Dr. Pepper is an example of a bad deal. One would expect the marketplace to react after a number of bad NIL deals are made. But this is college football with fanatics with ridiculous money; fanatics not concerned with a traditional ROI approach. I expect to see no market correction.
This is the key, barring any unlikely regulatory fixes. Nothing against these young men, but I'm still hoping a few multi-million dollar flops actually do cause a "market correction". That said, the skeptic in me agrees and we have a real fiasco on our hands.

As all of us who've lost loved ones know, you can't make up the time you didn't spend with them. I'm glad Mario had the chance to say goodbye to her.

One of my first teenage acts of rebellion back in the 70s. Dad was a hardcore Beaver fan, in fact took me to my first college football game, Civil War at Parker Stadium.

Versus Stanford Oct. 2, 2010:
Great family memory for me, my brother and I fished the Willy for steelhead that morning hooking up four and landing two, one right underneath the Autzen footbridge.
Down 21-3 in the second quarter, we finally get a TD, then Chip goes for the onside kick--GAME ON!!!
And who could forgot LMJ's soul-crushing run in the fourth to add the exclamation point.

Winner goes to the Rose Bowl. Masoli trucks OSU safety on 4th down to seal the win at Autzen stadium. Crowd was going crazy that night.
This game sent the two programs in two different directions.
Yeah I'm with you, one of my best memories in Autzen watching the final seconds tick down knowing we're going to the Rose Bowl.

Disappointing to say the least, but hardly unexpected.
These clowns should run for congress, they'd fit right in.

What about LaMike and Blount? I used to love watching the D get worn out chasing LMJ, then get bulldozed by Blount.
I also loved JStew and JJ, they always seemed to complement each other.
That said it's hard to make an argument against LMJ and Barner.
Damn we had some great duos!

Coaching staff (current one still has to show what they can do, on paper they look fantastic)
Weather - depends on your taste
Ocean - Oregon in no contest
Mountains - Utah wins
Rich man - yep Oregon rich guy is richer
Now I must admit that there are times, due to forum rules, I have held my tongue regarding some to the Utah commentary but over all I think it this a good place to hang out and I feel welcome.
Maybe some know, some don't, pre Utah joining the PAC, Oregon was my favorite Power 5 team.
Much respect for the team Whittingham put together this year. This was the team MC wanted but couldn't deliver.
Now as far as mountains-
Wasatch and Uintas are gorgeous, no argument there. But have you seen the Cascades from Mt Hood all the way to Crater Lake? Or Steens Mountain or the Wallowas? I'll give Utah a push at best.
What Utah has hands down is the best red-rock desert in the world. From Canyonlands to Capital Reef to Bryce to Zion, one post-card view after another.
I wouldn't mind retiring there.

Gattis won the Broyles Award award as the top assistant coach in CFB in 2021. The Michigan DC who has also left Ann Arbor and was not far behind in the voting. I think Harbaugh wore these guys out?
But if Gattis had problems with the peripatetic Harbaugh, wait until he gets a load of Mario's, 'my way or the highway?' I agree with Charles, this is baffling. If you told me Gattis was off to the Miami Dolphins, OK. But the Canes? The money being thrown Gattis' way has to be $erious. And seriously, losing both coordinators speaks poorly for Harbaugh, very poorly.
Funny when I saw the headline I assumed it was the Dolphins job he was taking. Seems like a lateral move at best considering he was on the short list for some head coaching jobs as well. Gotta hand it MC on this one.

OK no lack of effort, but can they close the deal? I guess we'll see starting Monday.

Can't say I blame him, best of luck in the NFL. Considering his injury past, I don't see how another year of wear and tear would improve his draft stock.
Holy cow this is going to be completely different team next year. For better or worse, Lanning's stamp will be on this team from the get-go.

I won't begrudge the life choices of a young man in his twenties. He gave every ounce while he was here, I wish him well (except of course if he plays the Ducks).

Interesting manifesto, Jon. Don't see how this ever happens, especially since the "Alliance" doesn't really seem to agree on anything at this point.
Gotta say though, limiting the transfer portal window is a no-brainer. It's only a matter of time before a playoff team that loses a star player to injury (or transfer for that matter) just buys one from another contender. Mid-season transfers with immediate eligibility combined with new NIL "rules" absolutely have the potential to destroy the sport.

OK seriously, Greg Sankey as the co-chair of the "transformation committee" with Julie Cromer, AD at Ohio??? Yeah I'm sure she can keep him reined in (heavy sarcasm).
As if the SEC doesn't already have enough power, WTH!

I don't begrudge MC taking the Miami job, sure the timing was horrible but breakups are never pretty. I was sorry to see him go, but I was still very concerned about the lack of performance in the Utah games. To paraphrase Mike Bellotti, the games you remember are played in November. Those performances led me to believe his schtick was no longer resonating with the team.
Here's hoping Lanning and staff can make the Ducks fun and exciting again, while actually achieving that physicality Mario was always crowing about.

Neither party has much in the way of options, so they're probably a good fit.

Non-conference prediction 2-1, but could go 1-2.
Conference 8-1, but could go 7-2 or even 6-3. Don't see us going 9-0, since it hasn't happened yet in the P12 and we have new staff/systems to learn.
We should win the north regardless, it's just a train-wreck. P12 championship against Utah or USC (most likely in my book) a toss-up.
I put over/under on wins at 9 not counting the P12 championship.

In a word, yes. Totally neutered and when they weren't enforcement was entirely inconsistent.
College football is a mess at least partially because the NCAA clung to power way too long even though the NIL writing was on the wall.
What do You Want More, a Win Over Georgia or Utah?

We could play Utah in conference AND the P12 Championship, so I would rather beat Utah twice and lose a close one to Georgia in that scenario.
If we're not in the P12 Championship I'd say Georgia for sure. We'll get plenty of shots at Utah down the road.
