  1. The big difference is that Boucher could sneak out to the wing and drain treys, a match up nightmare for opposing defenses. Still lament the what could have been had Boucher been healthy for that Final Four run.
  2. I'm in this camp. One can be critical of the how his departure came down, and of MC's limitations as a player developer and field general coach, but he stabilized the Oregon program when it was reeling from the Taggart departure and made us a national force again in recruiting and reputation. The job he took was at his alma mater where he won a national championship, in his home state, in a Cuban-American community that he was raised in and where his ailing mother lives along with his extended family. For heavens sake, wish the guy well. And be thankful that we appear to have found a new coach that can be everything Cristobal was and probably more.
  3. Kinda interesting to see the CFB media Lincoln Riley lovefest start to lose some traction. Still think the Williams kid goes to the U of Spoiled Children, but I agree it's a case of s*** or get off the pot on his decision at this point for the rest of us.
  4. Yeah, maybe commit, sign, earn a starting position and then feel the love at Autzen in the fall. Though it could be to see how much Duck fans support their teams. That folks can do.
  5. This young man seems to be pretty athletic at his size (6-6, 300#+), his picture shows very little 'bad' weight on him and his weight room numbers are really good. Kapa'a is a pretty small place on Kauai and I bet he didn't get the kind of national attention he would have in SoCal. Stepping into Oregon's strong Poly culture is his home away from home. Under the radar, indeed.
  6. I kinda like 'em for first effort. Totally Eugene, too. "You know, you can't uncut it"
  7. Never had one but I hear they use the leftovers as bait and bottom weights for ice fishing. Walleye pike go nuts for 'em.
  8. No reason we can't recruit outstanding DLs. We have in the past with Ngata and Olshansky and more recently DeFo B and Arik A (and even Mondeaux, a Portland 3* who is carving himself out a nice spot with the Steelers). Dorlus and Taimani look to be good start
  9. Nice to see after the "B" grade given to the DL hire by Dennis Dodd at CBS Sports.
  10. Still waiting to see Sedona Prince become the high impact player she can be, though the midrange shot is starting to fall and she seems more active at the post and on the boards. The real exciting development is the play of Pinto and Kyei, and that Rogers is finding her groove. If Paopao and Sabally stay healthy this is going to be a fun team to watch and an Elite 8 level team.
  11. I couldn't agree more with Jon. The pro playoffs this weekend had several plays that would have been targeting in CFB, particularly with Pac12 refs (Stanfurd game, grrrr). Only rarely did you even get a call. Targeting should be reserved for when a player launches themselves with the crown of the helmet. Everything else should be either incidental contact, or a 15yd personal foul penalty and no ejection. Too many games have pivoted on this rule to not have a revision.
  12. All the best for Verdell going forward. He has the skill set to land with an NFL team if he can show well at pro days and hopefully, the combine. Then stay healthy. Now Oregon needs to get a RB or two via the portal or a late HS commit. Broussard would seen to be a good fit for starters
  13. And here we go with another round of Ducks running back roulette. This kid was a big part of that good Colorado offense in 2020
  14. Bennett is returning to UGA for a final year. He's really not NFL material but he sure runs their offense well, so that makes sense. Can't see them getting Williams, then benching the kid that helped them win the NC and is a true underdog hero. JT Daniels is just looking for greener pastures.
  15. Absolutely throwing shade at KG. It could have been "quit bit**'n about the calls, coach". Who knows, but I find it a little tough to believe that Graves would throw that kind of verbiage at an opponent's woman coach while coaching his own players, particularly women like Sedona Prince who are outspoken on the sexism issues in college sports.
  16. Is there a defensive player at any level, high school to the pros, that doesn't love to pin their ears back and go after it with stunts, blitzes and misdirection? Oregon’s current roster (Sewell, Flowe, Bassa Dorlus, Popo, et all) seems very well suited to the defense that Coach Lanning seems to be bringing here. Thanks to Eric Boles for laying out the probable Xs and Os of that defense.
  17. Not a football movie, but a great football scene: MASH The 4077th vs 325th Evac game The original "Big Ben" Davidson in a bit part. Fred Williamson as Oliver Wendell "Spearchucker" Jones, a pro ringer neurosurgeon with the 4077th coaching Donald Sutherland, Elliot Gould and Tom Skerritt and running all over the 325th defense. It had it all, trick plays, trash talking ("you're f'n head's coming right off!") and smoking weed on the sidelines. Totally un-PC by today's standard, but as funny as it got to a kid of the 60's
  18. I don't have the same ESPN college stats for Joe Burrow, but he languished at tOSU bthen transferred to LSU and had a ~132 qb rating the year before he led them to a National Championship with a 212 rating. Not yet saying Nix is the next Burrow, but the kid was a 5☆ and sometimes it's the right system, fit and people that believe in you
  19. Bit of a head scratcher this one. Staying in the draft till the last second, sure, but going elsewhere for a final season? I can't imagine that the new offensive scheme under Dillingham wouldn't use Dye's skill set. Maybe it is a problem with the new RB coach.
  20. We all knew this was coming. My guess is that KT will walk those original comments back. Too many ex-Bama players in NFL locker rooms for him not to.
  21. Just because there are obstacles to overcome doesn't mean that you are being oppressed. Nearly every individual that attains success failed multiple times during that process. Winners and true leaders know what it's like to lose and learn to not repeat those mistakes.
  22. I love me some KT, but all he did with this little faux pas was invite some 340lb All-Pro former Alabama OT to pancake him, then stand over him and say, "Welcome to the League, Einstein"
  23. Back in the Chip Kelly Era I don't recall seeing Nick Alioti much on ESPN except a brief shot or two in the coaches box. Everything was about Chip's go-go uptempo offense. The story and theater in the Alabama-Georgia match up was Saban and Kirby, master vs former pupil. I didn't see it as Lanning becoming suddenly invisible because he was going to leave SEC country on a flight to Eugene the next morning. DL going to coach Oregon was mentioned a few times.
  24. That 4th down laser beam JH threw to Williams in the middle of the end zone, running to his left to escape another Raider DL who had beaten their block was a superhuman thing of beauty. Too many other well targeted drops by LAC receivers didn't help.
  25. I'm going to take the contrarian view that Staley is a good coach, just needs more time as a game general. Collinsworth showed a schematic last night of Staley's success rate on 4th down attempts that supported being aggressive. He just needs to use it less like a gunslinger and more like sniper. And yes, JH makes Staley look better than he is now, but I say give this another year.
