OBD Prediction Contest vs. Illinois: Join Us!

Oregon 38-17 1 TO 4 Sacks 305 yds passing Lanning calls off the dogs before 'Shout'. One TD given up by the 2s in the 4th as Illinois leaves the starters in. -
Doesn't bug me much as ANewman, JoeyH and JKent are objective 'homers' and smack Fentress down when he goes off the rails. It's ok to emphasize the negative when it's got some fact basis and is done for entertainment value. All of them were appropriately skeptical about OBD's chances against tOSU, not just Fentress. As former players (ex. Fentress) they all have good insights. It's not like the Cowherds of the world that never played a lick and are blue blood jock sniffers.

The Alabama fan base, closely followed by Paul Fineman's and Kalen DeBoer's brain pans. And yeah, Illinois is a little like Utah but without the tough as nails attitude and likeable coach.

Like Josh Pate said during his review of the U$C loss to Maryland, "And they blew up the Pac-12 for this?" -
Oregon's 2024 Offense Statistics Update - Concerning or Building?
EastBayDuckDad replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Those of us that watched those high flying blur offenses in the Chip era may be inclined to find fault with the rushing yards or lack of point totals in this year's product. That 2010 team that went 12-0 and came a couple of botched calls on the Cliff Harris pick and Dyer's 'his knee was down' from winning a NC also didn't have the trenches talent that Auburn did. Ditto the 2014 MM team that wiped the Rose Bowl turf with Famous Jameis and the Flawed State Seminoles, then ran into Ezekiel Elliott and the Joey Bosa led D-line of the Bucknuts. Great offenses, good but less than great defenses. The 2024 iteration of OBD has the defense that can compete with anyone. So, yeah, it would be nice to have the insane offensive numbers of 2010, 2014 and 2023. Fact is the Ducks don't need to be that team. Oregon has plenty of firepower with DG at the helm and Stein calling the plays but it's the DL sculpted defense that will carry the team deep into the playoffs. -
Oregon Ducks Football: No.1 Slot DESERVED?
EastBayDuckDad replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If you planned for a 1500 meter race and your strategy was to lead at 500 meters, then it does mean something. If for no other reason than you are the one in charge of your own destiny and the pack has to catch you. -
I will forever treasure the befuddled expressions Bielema had in the 2012 Rose Bowl when DAT pulled a Usain Bolt on the Whisky defense, Michael Clay pounced on that fumble while Chip got more air than Bielema ever could and Russell Wilson intentionally grounded the game into the history books. Looking forward to more befuddlement with him dressed in orange and blue.

IMHO: #1 OBD #2 Penn St #3 Georgia #4 THEosu #5. Miami or Texas Really doesn't matter the ranking. I'd be willing to flip #2 and #3. The Ducks have the big target on their backs now. Oregon, PSU, Indiana(!), THEosu and I suppose Illinois are all in the mix for the B1G championship game. Time to take Illinois out of the equation.

I don't know if they ever get a call on the Ref Central Batphone, but they sure reconsidered in a hurry. -

Holy guacamole, they reversed it! That call was abysmal and for once the zebras did the right thing. -
Very enlightening to watch the Illinois-Michigan today. I'm glad Oregon plays Illinois here and Michigan there. I'm more impressed with former's offense and less with the latter's defense than I was two weeks ago. That said: The Wolverine offense is truly one dimensional. In spite of years in college, their QB is bad throwing out of the pocket and the Michigan O-line has let the Illini D-line pressure him way too much. The Ducks should be able to get a couple of scores up, harass Tuttle and not allow them to control the clock with a plodding ground and pound, 100,000+ Big House fans notwithstanding. The Ducks will have the advantage over Illinois in talent and should be able to control the LOS and challenge their secondary over the top. I would anticipate a hangover from what looks like a win today as the Illini haven't beaten UM since 2009. Plus the 2000+ mile trip to Eugene. Go Ducks!

Largely true. The fact that TFerg went from first symptoms to surgery in what sounds like 24 hours would make both a perforation and an open procedure highly unlikely. While maybe not outpatient, if uncomplicated, he would be discharged in under 24 hours. The 3-4 incisions are small (5-10mm) and heal quickly. He should be back at practice, non-contact in 7-10 days, missing the Illinois game. He'll be close by the Michigan game, but probably not yet 100%. I would think that barring any problems, he might play against Maryland and would almost certainly be ready for Wisconsin. No fun, but it beats the hell out of an ACL or high ankle sprain.

GameDay Thread versus Purdue: Join Us!
EastBayDuckDad replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The absence of TFerg would be a major concern against an Ohio State, but I'm optimistic Herbert and Sadiq will take up the slack tonight particularly in the run game. There will likely be fewer 13 and 'heavy' alignments. Hoping to see some of Saleapaga. Hopefully TFerg has a minor injury or has a non-football related illness. -

Oregon 39-16 2 TO 4 Sacks 299 pass yds Ducks don't need style points so it'll be 'tote the rock' again and again with a couple over the top throws resulting in a modest score. James gets 150 yds of over 225 yds on the ground. Pundits will remind us that tOSU is really the better team. -
