  1. Fusky bringing the house that series. Stein and Bo will figure this out. Not sure why that punt wasn't roughing and 15yds.
  2. It is the start of what will hopefully be a very good day for Oregon. Let the floodgates open over Montlake.
  3. So big whoop. Last year a bunch of these 'sports entertainers' chose UCLA over Oregon. Sabs was guest picker and straightened them out. Sorry to see Corso flip, but it is what it is. Oregon needs to settle it on the field. Go Ducks
  4. Oh, why not? Oregon 43-41 (in OT on a 2pt conversion) 1 TO 2 Sacks 289 yds passing
  5. Amen Charles, amen. This game will be won or lost primarily in the trenches. To have Popo and Taki at full strength against a smaller and less experienced center will mandate frequent double teams with a guard to prevent the pocket from collapsing up the middle. And they can't rotate a center like you can a NT. He'll have fresh legs coming at him all game. Double teams will free up Rogers and Dorlus to win individual match ups and get into the backfield. Judicious use of blitzing LBs (Bassa) and safeties (Williams) through the weaker gaps will pressure Penix and any RB trying to block them. If Burch, Funa and Matayo can hold the edge and the DBs give the D-line that 2.5 sec to get to Penix, he will miss enough targets to make the difference. The loss last year was due to a poor coaching decision or two, a Nix injury and bad match ups in the secondary. The DBs issues have largely been corrected and Bo is healthy and shouldn't have to put himself in harm's way like that again. And DL is not a slow learner. Remember that Oregon would have won that game if just one of those negatives didn't occur. It's going to take a few stopped drives to swing this game in Oregon's favor but the 2023 Ducks have the talent and depth to do just that.
  6. As long as the players love the unis, that's all that matters.
  7. I'll bet Bo would be happy with a New York invitation but much happier with a hoisted NC trophy. The Heisman may not be a full fledged beauty contest, but it comes close, at least for QBs that make up the vast majority of the winners. Gaudy passing stats and big offensive production gets votes. The coaching and offensive scheme often help immensely but are not a guarantee of overall team strength and the ability to win championships. Witness Lincoln Riley's record. Fact is, it is the rare QB Heisman winner that lights it up in the NFL. Going back to 2000, an admittedly personal ranking of the nineteen winners that have been QBs: Good to Great: Carson Palmer Lamar Jackson Potentially Good to Great: Joe Burrow Good, not Great: Cam Newton Fair to Good (but too fragile): RG3 Sam Bradford Marcus Mariota (sorry to say) Fair (perhaps at best): Baker Mayfield Jameis Winston Early Bust: Bryce Young Kyler Murray Bust: Johnny Manziel Tim Tebow Troy Smith Matt Leinart Chris Weinke Never Played QB in the NFL: Jason White Eric Crouch ????: Caleb Williams
  8. As another thought, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the sidelines this weekend. If the Fuskies were smart, and if an official visit could be arranged, Rushing might be on the UW side. If he is it's not horrible news, it just gets him there. If he isn't, that's telling. If he's on the Oregon sideline that will be 'dancing in the street' news for the Ducks.
  9. Maybe a little. His teammate Wilhite is also an edge player, but a 3☆ that I don't think Oregon recruited. It's a bit more far-fetched to see them both go to UW at the same position. Wilhite is more likely to see the field if not in competition with Rushing. Maybe the Fuskies think if they take one they'll get both. That seems like a reach. Rushing was willing to turn down playing with his brother who transferred to the 'Cats from Florida and is a backup safety. So he is willing to break with the hometown crowd. I think Rushing goes where the defensive scheme is optimal and his pro potential development is greatest. Right now that is with DL and the Ducks.
  10. The confidence level of the recruiting prognosticators that he will flip to Oregon is high. Payoff for patience and persistence on the part of the Ducks. There was little doubt that family and his teammate were big parts of Rushing's initial decision to commit to the hometown Wildcats. I can't imagine that his change of heart comes without a solid option for where he will land. His father noted that they were not interested in a rebuilding program still several years from relevance. DL knows how to coach up D-line players and put them in the league. Notre Dame, Auburn and Tennessee are not likely to make any headway here. The odds of a Tucson kid defecting to Tempe, and the dumpster fire it has become, has got to be zip-to-none. The other soon to be B1G suitors, UW and UCLA may have some pull but I don't recall much noise being made by either in his initial recruitment. Perhaps another component of the high stakes game to be played this week in Seattle.
  11. The problem is that Cristobal didn't 'mentality' enough.
  12. Right now it looks like my invalid grandmother could biddie slap U$C into unconsciousness. Man they look bad and Arizona pretty decent.
  13. Man, you'd think they brought in the cream of the country in the portal. A difference maker or two, but.....meh. Oregon, for 2023, let's see... Jordan Burch Kyree Jackson Nikko Reed Evan Williams Tysheem Johnson Justin Jacobs (OK, he hasn't played yet) Tez Johnson Gary Brandt Treshon Holden Ajani Cornelius And more. Not to mention the 2022 additions.
  14. Defense wins championships. There is a reason Lincoln Riley can only sniff at it. And get upset by a Tulane. And still keep the same DC for another go around. Witness what Georgia did with a gamer but middling talented walk-on QB the last two years. Imagine a first round level QB running those UGA offenses. The domination would have been even more impressive. Yet it was the DL coached defense that was mainly responsible for hoisting that first NC trophy. The Dawgs were (arguably still are) a juggernaut because of defense. Kirby Smart's defense, yes, but DL had a lot to do with it. IMO the growth of the Duck D this year is due to Lanning instituting the formula that was so successful at Georgia. Points will be allowed against Williams and Penix led teams. Oregon's disciplined play and superior talent and coaching should be the difference maker in both contests. USC will be a serious test but hopefully the template gets established against UW first.
  15. Very unfortunate news for both the Ducks and Noah. He was a very valuable component of the RB contingent, particularly what he brought to the RPO and pass game. A successful and speedy recovery is hoped for with a return in 2024. Jordan James has already stepped up but will be called upon to do more. He appears to be ready. Limar and Dowdell now need to be coached up to be the 3-4 back. Both are capable 4☆ RBs and will have to learn the offense fast. The one that excels in practice, and most importantly, blocks well enough to help keep Nix upright gets the nod.
  16. Liberty eliminate Sun, to face Aces in superteam showdown - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM The New York Liberty earned their first trip to the WNBA Finals in 21 years with an 87-84 win... We have a bye week before the poodle paddling in Seattle so we can take a little time to watch the WNBA finals that start in a week. The Liberty beat Connecticut in the semis to advance and take on the Las Vegas Aces. Sabrina is surrounded by some incredible talent and will hopefully end the season with her first championship. Pretty amazing she is doing it in her 3rd pro year.
  17. I don't necessarily believe it was the yips. Lewis is used to FieldTurf or a variant of that, like the Hellas Matrix at Texas Tech. I have to wonder about the footing on Stanford's grass surface as it was the first time for Camden this year, and I don't believe Oregon has a natural practice field at the Mo/Hatfield-Dowlin complex. The Fusky surface is the newest AstroTurf 3D3 version so it will be much closer to what the Ducks practice on. I think he will have the control problems ironed out by then.
  18. It will be a very tough game up in Seattle. Oregon will need to be it's best self to win, focused and disciplined. As described in today's FishDuck article, the shift in priority in Oregon's secondary to playing the receivers instead of the ball has resulted in fewer picks but better overall results. Executing that priority effectively will be critical against the Pups. They have very high quality targets for Penix and limiting those targets will be the best way to control UW's explosive offense. I was impressed by how Arizona kept Penix out of the endzone and am optimistic that the Duck's superior personnel on defense can do something similar while still defending the short pass and somewhat anemic run game. Hopefully Oregon gets KJackson and Popo healthy and we get to see Jacobs play as well. With a couple of positional exceptions, on paper Oregon has better talent and depth. The Pups will have home field and confidence. It should be the best match-up in years.
  19. Well that was mo'bettah. Nice fake into the line and perfect pass to TFerg taking advantage of his size. Win the middle 8.
  20. Ok. Oregon speed on the edge. Hopefully that will be the drive that breaks loose the dam. But that first 20 minutes was sure ugly offensively. D might keep us in this.
  21. Georgia looking ho-hum against a one dimensional Auburn that lacks any pass game. They will probably pull it out against the Tigers, but it's a war of attrition and this sure doesn't look like last year's Dawgs. And, oh my, where will U$C find a defense? Can Texas hold off a flatland basketball power in Kansas that has discovered there are sporting balls that aren't round? Only the cream of the B1G looks good today so far.
  22. I was watching from the 30yd line 50 rows up, almost even with the LOS and it had me totally fooled until James jumped to the right and I saw Rogers take off to the left. Only big boys lined up three across behind the center so nothing to tip it off. Brilliant, and a spirit breaker for Colorado. As Charles pointed out, this Duck coaching staff is dialing up stuff that we embraced during the Grandes Heuvos de Chip era. Calculated and executed well.
  23. Duck Tape: Film Review of Week 4, 2023 vs Colorado WWW.ADDICTEDTOQUACK.COM Offense Oregon scored their fifth touchdown on their sixth possession just before halftime... As a nice supplement to the "Ducks vs Them" video, here is Hythloday1's Duct Tape analysis of the game. Always an informative read, IMO, with a bit of biting humor thrown in. The statistics tell the story of not only the efficiency and dominance for Oregon on both sides of the ball, but of the steady improvement of the defense. In particular the D-line and pass rush.
