National Championship Game Discussion Thread
OhioDuck replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Problem is the laser like passing game of Washington seldom made an appearance. If Penix played that way against Oregon we'd have beaten them worse than this, both times. He missed wide open throws all game with little pressure. That wasn't Michigan doing it. -

This is ridiculous, Michigan has spooked the mutts twice as much as Oregon did, with half as much pressure. He was throwing dimes all over the place against us and now he can't hit the broad side of a barn. -

Chincy offensive holding call again UW, considering some of the holding Mich ahs gotten away with. -

they started the half dominating, but didn't finish the half dominating. Pups found a way to get off the field and get the ball to the offense. Michigan can't cover the Washington receivers. If Penix can get them the ball now, this is a contest. I think UW is going to win this. -

We got a ball game going now. UW getting some stops now and that ugly blue team up north can't cover the doggie receivers without penalties. -

How do you not call that? How? -

there are some penalties you have to call. That hold was too obvious and it sprang the guy for a 15 yard gain. -

Come on doggies, if you need 5 yards run a five yard rout. -
Again observing from the heartland, B1G Country, Buckeye Nation. Lots of okay pass defense teams look really good against not so okay passing teams. The B1G was filled with not so okay passing teams this year. Name one top flight passing offense in the B1G... I'll wait... still waiting... OSU, good receiver and inconsistent QB, Penn St. potentially good QB (live arm) but never really put it together (see their play calling)... Wisconsin was play action, had to run first... MSU train wreck... and Minn. and Neb. ugly, just ugly. PAC defenses are not rated as high, well because 2/3 of the starting QBs in the PAC will be in the NFL soon. The worst passing offenses in the PAC were at least in the middle of the B1G, maybe higher. PAC offenses were also way more innovative. Bottom line is PAC was better all around than the B1G this year. It wasn't really that close either. Washington, with a few close calls, ran the table in the PAC, Michigan, with a few close calls, ran the table in the B1G. Advantage Dogs.

Lanning Will Need to be B1G in Year 3
OhioDuck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oregon with DG at QB will be as good an offense as there is in the B1G. Gabriel will take care of the passing game, contribute to the running game (don't get hurt please) and Oregon already has a good running game. I expect UW to take a little step back, they lose the best pure passer in college ball and maybe the best wide receiver. There is no one out there to come right in and replace those guys. We'll see what Riley comes up with at SC and Chip Kelley at UCLA, but chances are the two best offenses in the B1G will be West Coast teams. Defensively if Lanning keeps building this defense the way he is Oregon will be competitive with the top D's in the B1G too. With a top QB coming in, the Ducks have an excellent chance of playing for the conference championship. Just getting to that game will probably mean a playoff birth. -
Agreed, everyone is saying, UW hasn't faced a team like Michigan this year. Well turn that around, I live in B1G Slow and Ugly territory here and Michigan hasn't faced a team like UW either. OSU had one great receiver and a few good ones and an adequate QB. That was maybe the best passing offense in the B1G. Washington goes 3 great receivers, a really good tight end and, in my opinion anyway, the best passer in college football. Michigan hasn't come close to facing that this year. If Penix gets any time to throw at all (and he will at least some of the time) we'll see if Michigan's pass coverage is really that good. And remember this game is not like the semifinals, they only have one week to prepare. I think advantage pooches on that one. Michigan's advantage may be in their running game. If I was Washington, I'd load the box and try to make Michigan be a passing team. I think UW has the DBs to cover Michigan's receivers. Where they'll get caught in the passing game is if Michigan gets the run going and then goes play action. That's their game. I'm going out on a limb here, but Mongrels by 10-12.

Liberty and Duck Dynasty Trolls Oregon

I'm seeing a simple video with Puddles standing over Willie Robertson, webbed foot on his neck, with one of Willie's duck calls in his mouth, extended wing pointing at the score board. Quack! -
Stein Whines: Complaints About the Offense?
OhioDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm pretty satisfied. Some of the trick plays were iffy if the game had still been competitive, but it wasn't. They were having fun! It was fun to watch. My only complaint, a small one, is too much nickel and diming, at times. A flair pass here, shovel pass there... sometimes it seemed the effort was being made to get Bo the completion percentage record at the expense of explosive, exciting, plays. I can understand that, send the guy off right, he's meant a lot to Oregon football these last two years. Put him in the record books! But not always the most exciting football to watch. Let's see what next year brings. BTW, I thought Novosad looked pretty good in his brief stint. Made some good throws, looked like he belonged. -

Have to say a word about Tahj Boyd. He went to Oscar Smith High in Chesapeake, VA, where I went. It was not only tough on Liberty when he died in the off season, but for many Oscar smith players and fans too. By all account he was a really good kid and missed greatly. That's said, Go Ducks! -

An Oregon National Championship: 'I STILL BELIEVE,' Do You?
OhioDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Absolutely! 4 points away from the playoffs, 8 points away from an undefeated regular season and PAC 12 title. Who is the playoffs this year is Oregon not capable of beating on any given day? Next year?
