  1. Riley's track record says he seldom has a really good defense even when he has the players. His teams score a ton of points, if their opponent only scores 3/4 of a ton of points they win and they're happy! They're O line is also questionable as flintstone said, but Williams can make an awful offensive line irrelevant, he's most effect when you flush him out of the pocket and he's running for his life. The trick is to keep him there while getting enough pressure to bother him. Bottom line for me is if you can keep their offense from going totally crazy and your offense is at least competent you have a chance to win. Warning, Riley has won a lot of games with a not so good defense.
  2. I'm not sure about now, but SFA had a huge infusion of money that allowed to recruit a lot of good players, but I'm not sure how good their coaching is. I've been to their basketball games, excellent coaching there, but I'm not sure about football. So, I'm not sure if MVB is getting good coaching. On another subject, someone mentioned SFA playing Mater Dei. Mater Dei got trounced Friday night by Carlsbad and most of the game wasn't as close as the 48-14 final score. Hasn't Oregon been recruiting some players from Mater Dei (or is that another Mater Dei). No one on that team looked like someone I would want.
  3. There is no playing Georgia in Atlanta the first game of a new coach this year. The two losses after that were by a total of 7 points. The offense may be better than last year, if the line is anywhere near as good as last year (the talent is there, maybe not the chemistry). So, if the defense is a little better, 7 points better, this team could be undefeated. Burch (and Matayo) improve the line. I believe the linebackers will be better (playing Lanning's system) than last year. The DB probably will be better. Not saying this team will be undefeated, and there are no question marks, but it's not far fetched to say they can be very, very good.
  4. Yeah, I was excited about the players MC was bringing in at first. On paper these were great classes. Then the results just didn't match the level of talent coming. I've come to realize he was recruiting great players for someone else's system or maybe he just didn't know what to do with great players. Lanning's tendency to recruit to the system, maybe even leading him here and there to recruit a lesser rated player who fits better, I believe will serve Oregon football well. It is what Oregon has always done well. Now we get both the players that fit and the highly rated players (often in the same person). That will make for exciting football.
  5. With all the questions around the PAC, and any (if there actually was) questions about Lanning, I would have understood if some players had decommitted. That there wasn't mass exodus, or even a small one is a credit to the staff. Joining the B1G will help, but maybe not right away. I think the future holds consistent top 5 recruiting years. Now that things are more settled, there may be a flip or two.
  6. Yeah, had a friend from Levelland, TX (just west of Lubbock) many years ago. She said there is a reason they call it "level" land.
  7. My fear, and almost my hope, is that they are destroying the very product they are messing up for the rest of us. FOX and ESPN will sing another tune if most (or at least a significant number) of us just stop watching. Then their media markets won't mean anything.
  8. The PAC teams will definitely be a breath of fresh air in the stuffy ol' B1G. I'm very sad for what is happening to the PAC, but hopeful the Ducks will continue to be the innovative creators of exciting football they have been for decades now (well maybe minus the Mario years). Go Ducks!
  9. If Oregon goes to the B1G, along with UW, I would also like to see the B1G make a play for Utah and Stanford. This would be 6 solid west coast programs in a 20 team conference. It may even make the western division of the B1G it's best division, at least in football. From a media point of view this also adds Salt Lake City and San Francisco. Man it is hard to start looking for things that would make the B1G a better conference! I have never liked the Big Slow and Ugly Conference, even though I live in Ohio now. Bringing in the West Coast will help this conference greatly.
  10. Oregon being the reason the PAC folds is insane. Oregon is the only reason at this point the PAC has held on this long. In a few days if Arizona is indeed gone, Utah is gone, maybe ASU... Will it still be Oregon's fault? The PAC's indecisiveness over and over again when the opportunity for positive expansion was there, when markets like Houston were open for business, when the Big 12 was vulnerable to being raided by the PAC rather than the other way around is ultimately what has killed the PAC. When the LA schools left the handwriting was on the wall. It's really only been Oregon holding things together since. to blame Oregon now... No way!
  11. Ironically they may be ruining the product they are buying. If this continues, I will be watching a lot less college football on television, streaming or in any other way. The Ducks are my team, but past them? No, no more.
  12. If the Apple deal is all there is I agree with him, but Finebaum has a track record of wishing nothing but ill will to the PAC and Oregon in particular. Here's hoping that the Apple "part" of the deal is only about half of it and we know sooner rather than later. If not there may not be much of a PAC conference to make a deal with. And that would be a sad, sad day in my book, even if Oregon does fine anyway.
  13. this is one I've been hoping for, not just because I remember his dad playing for Oregon, but because I think he is going to be very, very good! Four star sophs often end up being five star seniors. I see that happening with Akili. He has all the tools needed, size, arm strength, mobility... he looks great on film already. I have little doubt he'll be one of the top two or three QBs coming out his senior year. Welcome aboard young man.
  14. Let's see what he does this year. Looks like a two sport+ guy, maybe concentrating only on football will develop him into a top talent. Just speculating. 6'5" 250, if he can run, catch and block, that could be a pretty good tight end.
  15. And Arizona is making noise like they are already gone. If that can be delayed and the media deal is indeed good enough for them and the others the B12 is trying to poach to stay, there's a chance.
  16. Problem is, if it does not come to light soon, the PAC may soon consist of 7 schools. What media outlets are going to sign on for that? I agree with Lanning Colorado wasn't a giant loss, media market or not how many people actually watched their games. If UA and ASU go? It's going to be tough to make a viable P5 conference from what is left and the schools that might be picked up. Past SDSU and SMU who is there? I've heard Boise, that's a marginally good fit. Utah State? Logan is not exactly a giant market, though their ADep seems pretty healthy. Is the Pace going to be in position to poach any teams from the Big 12 now, I doubt it. It's going the other direction. Dang, I'm usually a positive, optimistic type, but this is hard.
  17. I'm good with 50 each on Colorado, USC and UCLA. A good parting gift!
  18. Yep! Let's forget all the NIL, the conference re-alignment etc. and just get on with some football! Go Ducks!
  19. yes, this is the point I made elsewhere, Colorado is not a big loss. UA and ASU can't follow though. If so Oregon has to go B1G or Big 12, as much as I HATE that.
  20. Okay, I went on vacation for a few weeks, thinking the PAC had a pretty good media deal to be announced soon and I come back and Colorado is leaving and everyone is saying the sky is falling. Can't you folks take care of things for me for just a few weeks.LOL Seriously, a few questions. What has happened to the media deal? If Colorado is the only one to go, is it that big a loss? If no one else leaves, would Oregon be any better off in the Big 12 as the PAC? I really don't know the answers to these questions. I guess we'll all find out soon. I'm hoping the PAC survives with Oregon in it. The Big slow and ugly 10 is just that and once Texas and OK are gone the Big 12 is not all that impressive.
  21. Depth helps as the season wears on and as others have said in late game for fresh legs. Also, hoping this doesn't happen, but two twisted knees (even not series injuries) and we need every bit of that depth.
  22. I actually already have a commitment, but probably wouldn't be able to make it anyway. I'm wondering if there could be some regional meet up, maybe to watch some games together. I'm near Dayton, Ohio for at least one more season. Anyone reasonably close by?
  23. Except for 2.5 years in Portland, I haven't lived any further west than Louisville, KY. In my experience the east coast bias is big and like most bias comes from ignorance. Yes, the late starting times of games with the time difference has something to do with it, but simple regional probably has more. More exposure to west coast games might help, but the east coast also views folks out west as a little too laid back, even cooky (Bill Walton is exhibit A for some folks back here). When I think of the crazy pace of much east coast life, maybe the east coast is the wacky coast, but I digress. Sports wise the west coast is not viewed as being tough enough or serious enough. If that is to change, the best games in the PAC need to start at noon or 1pm PST. I know night games live are lots of fun, but that excitement won't translate to east coast folks yawning because it is passed our bed time. I'll stay up late to watch the Ducks, but most won't.
