  1. Texas, Oregon, or Alabama? How the BCS rankings would order the top 1-loss teams An interesting debate has stirred up in the world of college football over the last 24 hours that has accompanied the release of the latest College Football Playoff rankings. That debate questions which one-loss team in the nation should be ranked the highest: the Oregon Ducks, the Texas Longhorns, or the Alabama Crimson Tide. All have fair arguments. Neither Texas nor Alabama has looked better than the Ducks over the past month; neither Oregon nor Alabama has a better win than Texas this year (vs. No. 8 Alabama); neither Oregon nor Texas have a better loss than Alabama this year (vs. No. 7 Texas). This is where you get the “eye test” supporters clashing with the “strength of record” supporters, and it leaves us with a lot of people yelling at each other... Texas, Oregon, or Alabama? 2. How Dan Lanning manages 'behind-closed-doors' content in cinematic recap videos Oregon has been inventive for quite some time, but a new wrinkle to the next generation of promoting the program has been in place this season. The cinematic videos titled “Oregon vs. Them” show some game highlights, inspirational speeches to the team and a glimpse into the weekly preparation for the upcoming game. They’ve become popular among the fanbase on YouTube. The video that came out that highlighted the 35-6 win at Utah, has about 43,000 views, while the Week 4 video vs. Colorado got over 23.2 million views on social media. While that exposure is great for the program, from a coach’s standpoint, you also have to be careful about what you are willing to share from behind closed doors. This is a balance that head coach Dan Lanning has had to strike up during the season, weighing what he does and does not want to be included in the recaps... 3. Snap Count Takeaways: Major notes from Oregon's usage report vs. California It’s always a good thing when you can get deep into the conference schedule and still find games where depth players get a chance to see the field. While those opportunities are usually limited to the non-conference slate and a select few games during the season, the Oregon Ducks have found a way to take the starters out of 4th quarters in numerous contests this season. That was the case on Saturday against the California Golden Bears in a 63-19 victory. While Bo Nix and the starters spent the first three quarters building a massive lead, the final quarter allowed for a litany of underclassmen to see the field and get some valuable experience. Here’s a look at the snapcounts from Saturday’s game, and some takeaways that we got from them... 6. ‘Nole body better? No. 4 FSU has shortest CFP odds Florida State remained No. 4 in the second College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night, but oddsmakers see the Seminoles with the easiest path to the final four. The top eight teams remained unchanged from the initial CFP rankings released last week, including Florida State being fourth behind Ohio State, Georgia and Michigan. However, the Seminoles have already clinched a spot in the ACC championship game. Their likely opponent is No. 11 Louisville, which has remaining regular-season games against Virginia, Miami and Kentucky. Florida State has -320 odds to reach the CFP at DraftKings, where Georgia is -240 and Michigan is -160. Interestingly, Ohio State is +110 behind even No. 6 Oregon (-110), with the Buckeyes staring at a Nov. 25 road showdown against the Wolverines to close the regular season. 7. Ducks make final cut for 2025 five-star QB Bryce Underwood Underwood is currently ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2025 class and the No. 4 overall player in the Top 247. In the 247 Sports Composite, Underwood's rankings improve, as he currently sits as the No. 2 player overall in the 2025 class and No. 1 quarterback. The Ducks were joined by Colorado, Penn State, Florida State, LSU, Alabama, and Michigan. Oregon offered Underwood this past July. So far, the Belleville, Michigan, native has played in 10 games for Belleville High School and thrown for 2,051 yards, completing 67.5-percent of his passes for 26 touchdowns and one interception. Underwood has sparingly run the ball this season, with only 85 yards on 16 carries and four touchdowns. In 2022, Underwood was named the MaxPreps National Sophomore Player of the Year and the MaxPreps Michigan Player of the Year. Here's 247 Sports' Allen Trieu's scouting report on the talented quarterback: "Ahead of his years physically and looks like he could be a senior or college player already. Has a strong arm with the ability to make throws to any part of the field. Throws a good deep ball and can use touch to give his receivers a chance to go make plays on the ball. Did an exceptional job of taking care of the ball as a freshman with 39 touchdowns to just four interceptions. Got rid of the ball quickly and was decisive with the ball for the most part. 10. Lanning on USC QB Caleb Williams: 'He’s a tough one to prepare for' For defensive-minded head coach Dan Lanning, Williams presents multiple difficulties in game planning for a player of his caliber. "Fortunately for us, we've played a lot of good quarterbacks this year. But Caleb is certainly a hard one to prepare for — one, because of his ability as an athlete. He can run. He's got great speed. He's really strong in the lower body, he's a hard guy to get to the ground," said Lanning on Monday night. "But again, the prep is every day. It's the drill work we do — you have to do some particular drills throughout the week to really prep you for the difference in play for him and how he plays. Like I said, holding the ball for long periods of time, and being able to keep his eyes downfield to create explosive plays, that's one of the things that probably makes him most unique. Then the fact that you really can't outrun his arm. It doesn't matter how far the receivers are down the field, he's always got the ability to throw it and does a great job of that. So he's a tough one to prepare for." 12. Sources: NCAA revealed Michigan findings to Big Ten; conference mulling Jim Harbaugh suspension On Monday morning, the University of Michigan football program welcomed a visitor: former pro wrestler Ric Flair, an eccentric personality known for his colorful wardrobe and entertaining bouts in the ring. It’s a fitting start to a week that could evolve, in both Ann Arbor and Chicago, into an unprecedented showdown between a school and its own conference. The NCAA has revealed its latest findings in the Michigan sign-stealing investigation to the Big Ten, and the conference continues to consider a multi-game suspension of head coach Jim Harbaugh as the school gears up for legal action, sources tell Yahoo Sports. The NCAA’s findings do not connect the in-person scouting and recording of opponents’ sidelines to Harbaugh, sources say, an absence of evidence essential to a potential lawsuit from the school and coach against the league. Over the weekend, the school was given a period of several days in which to mount a response to the conference before penalties, if any, are levied, sources with knowledge of the discussions say. A resolution around the issue is expected by the end of this week and as soon as Wednesday... 14. Roger Saleapaga Locks in Oregon Official Visit as Commitment Nears One of Oregon's top targets will be back in Eugene this weekend. 2024 Orem (Ut.) tight end/wide receiver Roger Saleapaga will take his official visit to Oregon on November 11 when the Ducks face off against the USC Trojans, he told Ducks Digest. The upcoming trip will be his second to Oregon this fall, as he was also in Eugene when the Ducks played Colorado. "That trip was fun," he said. "Colorado offered me too, but it was fun to see Oregon win and put some numbers up on the board. I'm an offensive player so I love seeing that happen." Saleapaga has been a frequent visitor in Eugene and his admiration for the program only continues to grow as Dan Lanning tries to take the Ducks back to the top of the Pac-12. "I always loved Oregon. I was there I think five times now," the Utah product said. "I always love going back to Eugene. Oregon's still so me. Still high up there on my board. I love the coaches. What Coach (Dan) Lanning is building up there I really love." To see more details, click here.
  15. How the Oregon Ducks performed in Week 9 of the NFL Week 9 was a busy week for the Oregon Ducks in the NFL. Former Ducks’ safety, Jevon Holland, kicked things off early Sunday morning with the Dolphins’ matchup against the Chiefs in Germany. DeForest Buckner and the Colts’ defense handled Carolina. And, the week was capped off with Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers taking down the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. The NFL is now halfway through its season and several Ducks’ have their teams in playoff contention. Holland and the Dolphins lead their division, Deommodore Lenoir, Arik Armstead, and the 49ers are 3rd in the NFC, and Justin Herbert’s Chargers are one game back from a Wild Card spot in the AFC. 18. Sione Laulea Reflects on Oregon Commitment, Recruiting Process The Ducks recently added one of the best junior college prospects to their 2024 recruiting class. Last month Oregon secured a commitment from College of San Mateo (Calif.) cornerback Sione Laulea III, who pledged to the Ducks over the likes of USC, Miami and others. I had the chance to speak with the 6-foot-4, 190-pound defensive back to go inside his decision to commit to Oregon. "Everything just seemed to fit right," he said of his commitment to the Ducks. "Culture and my trust within the coaching staff. Development, they have a good scale of development going on with players they're funneling to the next level. They're obviously performing well." Laulea was able to see the staff's strong track record of development, particularly with Christian Gonzalez being selected by the New England Patriots in the first round in the 2023 NFL Draft. 19. Where Oregon's offense ranks nationally in key stats following win over California So that’s what Bo Nix looks like when you take the leash off, huh? It’s not like we didn’t know that already, but it was good to see once again on Saturday as Nix led the Oregon Ducks to a 63-point outburst behind six touchdowns from the quarterback, boosting his Heisman Trophy odds higher than they already were. There wasn’t much to correct for the Ducks on the offense, at least from a fan’s perspective, as they scored on every redzone trip they had and went 10-for-14 on third downs, the best rate under Dan Lanning in Oregon. Unsurprisingly, the performance boosted them up in the national standings when it comes to some key statistics. Take a look at where they now stand.. 20. 'It's gonna be huge;' Oregon prepares for big-time recruiting weekend with impressive visitor list Over the past decade or so, the Oregon Ducks have expanded their recruiting footprint to span across the nation. No longer do they just focus on the top players out west, but rather they take aim at the best players from the North East, to the deep South, to the talent-rich lands of Texas, and everywhere in between. Despite all of that, on of the most fertile grounds for Oregon over the years has been Southern California, where they’ve gone toe to toe with the USC Trojans in attempts to land some of the best players in the nation, quite successfully, I might add. That’s what makes this coming weekend a little bit different. While every big game offers an opportunity for coaches to recruit and promote their program, the first Oregon vs. USC game since 2020 offers a bit of an elevated stage. It will be played at night, it will have high stakes, and it will be a picturesque environment inside Autzen Stadium. “It’s gonna be huge,” Lanning said of the opportunity on Monday night. “It’s huge for the atmosphere that our fans create, it’s huge for the way that our team performs. Recruiting in these scenarios, you don’t always get to spend as much time with the recruits as you want because you’re spending time preparing for the game, but that will be a big, big piece of this weekend.” Already, some high-profile prospects are letting it be known on social media that they are headed to Eugene for the weekend, and as the week goes on, we will continue to see more visitors join the RSVP list. As of now, here is an updated look at who is expected to take a visit to Oregon to watch the Ducks take on the Trojans... 21. Where Oregon's defense ranks nationally in key statistics after win over California The number on the scoreboard may have read higher than Oregon’s defense usually has allowed this season, but when you consider the fact that one of California’s touchdowns came as a fumble returned for six, then it’s easy to see how dominant the Ducks’ defense was once again on Saturday. The final score was 63-19, and it truthfully wasn’t even that close. Tosh Lupoi’s unit did a great job of slowing down the Golden Bears’ rushing attack, and getting off of the field as much as they could, giving the ball back to Bo Nix and the elite offense. Unsurprisingly, the performance allowed Oregon to move up in the national rankings when it comes to some key statistics. Here’s where they now stand after Week 10... 23. Lanning provides thoughts on preparing for USC's defense following change at DC For Oregon, the team that leads the Pac-12 in total offense per game (539.8 yards per game), their preparation, according to head coach Dan Lanning, remains simple. "I think there'll be a lot of similarities to some of the stuff that they already do," said Lanning. "I think that that group will probably have some new wrinkles that we potentially haven't seen. But it all comes back to what football is all about: tackling, blocking, breaking tackles, and making catches. So all those things are going to hold true. And we have to play to our identity. I hope when people watch this team, especially, you know, really on both sides of the ball, you see an identity, and our identity has to hold true regardless of what scheme we see against us."...
