  3. Dan Lanning’s Ducks are following a familiar blueprint, but they’re building something completely different in Eugene. Whenever a coach leaves a job to take over a new program, there are bits and pieces that he borrows. Maybe a coordinator here or a support staffer there. Perhaps he borrows practice blueprints and various organizational strategies. But how to affect players and get the best out of them is something that can be far more difficult to grasp. You can recruit at the approximate level of the best teams in the sport, but can you get them to actually perform? It’s the great mystery of team sports, especially with a bunch of 18- to 22-year-olds. There’s a list a mile long of coaches hired off a coaching tree who aren’t able to replicate the success of their former bosses. You don’t have to think long to arrive at your favorite failed knockoff version of Nick Saban, who is himself a product of the Bill Belichick tree, which has produced similarly spoiled fruit. Whenever any coach is hired from a tree, fans focus on how close the on-field product develops in the Saban mold. But some of Saban’s most important work has been around the mental aspect of the game. The same can be said of Kirby Smart, and now Oregon coach Dan Lanning, who worked for both of them along the way to Eugene. In Athens, Lanning met Drew Brannon and Cory Shaffer of AMPLOS, a performance psychology firm that has worked with Clemson and Georgia, among various other corporate clients. The word is Latin for growth and development, and it’s the growth mindset preached that is a key foundation of how the Ducks have built success. This is an interesing article that helps you understand Lanning's coaching style. To access the details in the article, click here.

  8. 5 Washington Huskies Oregon needs to watch for on Saturday In all honesty, we could have gone with a dozen of players for this 5 opponents article featuring the Washington Huskies. But we had to keep it down with the obvious for the No. 6 team in the nation and a team that will present Oregon’s biggest challenge of the season. Unlike USC, the Huskies are very good on both sides of the ball. They also have a coaching staff that knows what it is doing, which is a far cry from the previous leadership under Jimmy Lake. Washington is a bonafide national championship contender and for the first time in the series history, both teams come into the game ranked in the Top 10 in both the AP and Coaches poll. Fortunately, Oregon has a team that is very capable of going on the road and defeating a club such as this. But the Ducks will have to pay a little extra attention to these five Dawgs in Oregon to avoid the first loss of the season... 5 Washington Huskies Oregon needs to watch for on Saturday DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM 5 Washington Huskies Oregon needs to watch for on Saturday

  13. The 10 stupidest decisions college football coaches have made in 2023 We’re all experts. There’s no way we would have handed off instead of taking a knee, or given up a game-winning TD with 10 men on the field, or given up a TD with 13 players on the field, or gone for it on 4th-and-32 with 3 timeouts left. Or … well, you get the point. Leave those boneheaded decisions to the men who are paid millions to know more about football than anybody else. Halfway through the 2023 season, we’ve already seen myriad examples of unthinkably bad coaching decisions. For brevity’s sake, we narrowed this to the worst 10...thus far... 16. Prediction: Oregon Poised to Land 5-Star Recruit The Ducks are surging for Elijah Rushing after he recently reopened his recruitment. It’s was an eventful weekend for Oregon on the recruiting trail. After landing a commitment from College of San Mateo (Calif.) cornerback Sione Laulea III on Sunday, the Ducks look like they’re trending for another elite recruit in the 2024 class. Today I’m logging a prediction for 2024 Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic edge rusher Elijah Rushing to commit to the Oregon Ducks. Confidence level: 6/10 To access article, click here.

  18. 3 Reasons Why Oregon Will Defeat Washington This Weekend This week, the #8 Oregon Ducks take on the #7 Washington Huskies in the biggest Pac-12 game of the season. Both defenses will be tested as the top two offenses in the nation face off. Washington is the top-ranked offense in the nation, while Oregon has the #2 ranked offense. Given that both teams are undefeated, somebody’s O will have to go by the end of this game. Washington’s wins have come against Boise State, Tulsa, Michigan State and Arizona. On the other hand, Oregon has won most of its first five games in dominant fashion. The Ducks defeated Portland State Vikings by a score of 81-7. Then, they followed that up with a 45-point victory over Hawaii. Their last two wins were both 42-6 victories over the Colorado Buffaloes and Stanford Cardinals. Despite the Washington Huskies having the higher seed, I believe the Oregon Ducks are the better football team. Thus, the Oregon Ducks will defeat the Washington Huskies on Saturday. Here are three reasons why this will occur... 3 Reasons Why Oregon Will Defeat Washington This Weekend OREGONSPORTSNEWS.COM This week, the #8 Oregon Ducks take on the #7 Washington Huskies in the biggest Pac-12 game of the season. 20. How former Ducks performed in Week 5 of the NFL In 2023, there are 32 NFL players on either an NFL active roster or practice squad, that went to school at the University of Oregon. While many of them don’t make much of an impact on gameday, that high total is a testament to Oregon’s ability to develop talent. There are still plenty of players that do play a gameday role for their respective teams. Some like Justin Herbert are stars for their teams, while some players like Troy Hill play smaller roles. But here, I’ll check in with each of the Ducks that played in Week 5. Below is a check-in with each of the NFL Ducks...
