Oregon vs. Stanford: No. 9 Ducks close as nearly 30-point favorites on the road It may sound strange, but these are the days that I long for the good old days of the Oregon Ducks vs. Stanford Cardinal rivalry games. While they provided many tough moments for the Ducks, including three upsets when Oregon was ranked inside the top 5, they also gave us one of the most thrilling and heated rivalries we’ve seen in the entire Pac-12 Conference this century. Those days are behind us, though. As we’ve combed through the numerous stories about Oregon and Stanford, and how this is the last time we will get this matchup for the foreseeable future, it brought about a sense of melancholy. While memories of those days still stand strong, they’ve been moved aside for the current era where any point spread smaller than three touchdowns in favor of the Ducks is a surprise. That’s the case this week when No. 9 Oregon goes down to the Farm to face a Stanford team that ranks last in our Pac-12 Power Rankings. The Ducks opened as heavy 27.5-point favorites, and they closed at that number as well. Here are the latest lines and things you need to know about the game... LOOK: Stanford to wear special alternate uniforms on Saturday vs. Oregon The Oregon Ducks aren’t the only team playing with uniform combinations this weekend. While the Ducks announced on Wednesday that they would be wearing a green and white uniform combination this weekend against the Stanford Cardinal, it was the home team who came out on Friday and unveiled the fact that will not be wearing their traditional uniforms for the showdown with the Ducks. Instead, Stanford will be wearing their alternate black uniforms, with black helmets, a black jersey, and black pants. Stanford to wear special alternate uniforms on Saturday vs. Oregon DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Stanford looks to be going with the alternates on Saturday vs. Oregon. This is going to be a good-looking uniform matchup.

5 THINGS TO WATCH: STANFORD The No. 9 Oregon football team goes on the road in conference play for the first time this season Saturday, when the Ducks face Stanford at 3:30 p.m. Oregon is off to a 4-0 start, including a win last week over then-No. 19 Colorado in Autzen Stadium to open Pac-12 play. The teams each have a win over Hawai'i, but Stanford is on a three-game losing streak since that win in the Cardinal's season opener, including conference losses to USC and last week to Arizona. Stanford leads the all-time series between the two, 50-35-1. The Cardinal are 30-15-1 when hosting the Ducks, including an overtime win the last time the two met at Stanford Stadium, in 2021. Some storylines to watch come kickoff... 5 Things To Watch: Stanford - University of Oregon Athletics GODUCKS.COM The Ducks will be on the road to face the Cardinal on Saturday (3:30 p.m., Pac-12 Network).

Five-Star DL Aydin Breland locks in commitment date Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive lineman Aydin Breland has locked in his commitment date and will announce on October 14. "I'm still thinking it over, I haven't made a final decision yet," Breland said moments ago. "It's a tough call because I like all three schools but I'm confident I'll be ready by the 14th. "There's really nothing special about that date to be honest. It's no ones birthday or anything, I just liked that date, it was convenient and I felt like the time was right for me to go ahead and commit and lock this in." Earlier this month, Breland cut his list of schools to a final three consisting of Georgia, Miami and Oregon. He took multiple visits to each program and officially visited all three in June as well. He took a final unofficial visit to Athens two weeks ago... 7 major questions for Ducks in Week 5 rivalry game vs. Stanford If the Oregon Ducks can take care of business in the first half on Saturday, then they might get the added benefit of an extended bye week before the biggest game of their young season. Dan Lanning and his team will go down to Palo Alto and take on the Stanford Cardinal in what is likely to be the final game in this great rivalry that has formed over the past two decades. While the Ducks and Cardinal have had some incredible matchups over the years, this isn’t expected to be one of them. Currently, Oregon is ranked No. 9 in the nation, while Stanford is considered among the worst teams in all of college football. Of course, that didn’t stop Stanford from pulling off the upset over No. 3 Oregon in an overtime thriller back in 2021. You get a sense that things will be different under Lanning and his staff, though, with the knowledge that the team can get an extra bit of rest before Washington prep begins during the Ducks’ bye in Week 6. With all of that being said, Oregon still needs to take care of business, and it needs to answer a few outstanding questions about the team and personnel. Here are our biggest questions going into the weekend... SEC, Big 10 programs building elite 2024 recruiting classes in the trenches Winning at the line of scrimmage is paramount at any level of football, but especially when it comes to playing and recruiting at the highest levels of college football. If you needed any more proof of that, look at what Georgia has done in the past two years by dominating at the point of attack en route to consecutive national championships. The SEC has staked its claim to the country’s elite big men in recent years, but there’s plenty of physical football going on in the Big Ten. And that isn’t changing any time soon. The 2024 recruiting class isn’t as deep along the offensive line as previous years, but there’s a wealth of talent on the defensive side of the ball — especially at the DL and EDGE positions. Nearly all of the country’s top interior players are off the board by late September, so let’s take a look at what programs have built the biggest and best classes in the trenches with blue-chips at the OT, IOL, DL and EDGE spots. College football recruiting: Breaking down top OL/DL classes WWW.ON3.COM A handful of programs are at the top of college football recruiting when it comes to adding elite prospects in the trenches.

The presidents at the University of Oregon and Oregon State will give public testimony Thursday in the Oregon State Capitol about the impact of the downfall of the Pac-12 Conference. The agenda and list of invited speakers includes the presidents and athletic directors of both schools. Also among the guests are a couple of deans, an analyst, a student-athlete, and a professor of economics from West Virginia University. The hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. There’s bound to be finger pointing and questions. There may be some public scolding, too. The financial impact of Oregon’s departure to the Big Ten is staggering to OSU. Oregon may present a compelling case, too. But I’m told by involved sources that nobody thinks a “Calimony” tax for the Ducks is likely. Still, what are lawmakers up to? Public posturing? Just listening? Or preparing to act? Canzano: Oregon lawmakers will hear from Beavers and Ducks WWW.JOHNCANZANO.COM Presidents, ADs are invited to Thursday meeting.

NEW LOGO CAPTURES BREADTH OF BEOREGON'S SPIRIT
Pennsylvania Duck posted a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
THE UO ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT'S CAMPAIGN SUPPORTING INCLUSIVITY IN SPORT HAS FRESH NEW IMAGERY. The goal was daunting – reconceive the logo for the UO athletic department's BEOREGON campaign to better reflect the movement's spirit of diversity and inclusion across a broad spectrum of race, gender, sexual identity and beyond. The result is stunning – a new mark building upon the "Soaring Duck" logo, with a remarkable colorway that recognizes the differing planks in the foundation of Oregon's student-athlete population. In the spirit of the U.S. national motto E pluribus unum – "out of many, one" – the new BEOREGON logo encapsulates the varied backgrounds of Ducks athletes who unite together to compete under the same banner. First launched in 2016, BEOREGON encouraged UO student-athletes and those who cheer for them to embrace their authentic selves. The initial colorway utilized a rainbow of tones intended to reflect the various shades used by Oregon teams in their array of uniforms over the years. But, said UO tennis player Uxia Martinez Moral, a member of the UO student-athlete advisory committee's BEOREGON subcommittee, "I think there was a little bit of confusion with the past logo, that BEOREGON basically symbolized 'Pride' and the LGBTQ community. And that's obviously part of it – but it's not all of it." The process of reconsidering the BEOREGON logo began in 2020, with Zoom calls that included several current student-athletes at that time. The project was led by Van Horne Brands, directed by former Nike creative director Todd Van Horne and his son, Quinn, senior designer for the firm. On Sunday, three years of development culminated in the unveiling of the new BEOREGON logo during the athletic department's annual "Opening Ceremony" for student-athletes, prior to the start of fall classes at the university this week. For most of them, it was the first chance to see the way so many elements of BEOREGON's spirit had coalesced in the new logo. Prediction: Oregon Ducks to Land Elite Defensive Back The Ducks should be viewed as the frontrunners for one of the nation's best. Oregon's defense looks like it's finally growing into its own under head coach Dan Lanning and defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi. After slowing down an explosive Colorado offense to a screeching halt in week 4, multiple players look like they're on the brink of breakout seasons. The win over the Buffs generated some solid recruiting momentum, as 2026 5-star defensive lineman Tony Cumberland announced his commitment to Oregon shortly after the game. With 22 verbal commitments in the Ducks' 2024 recruiting class, remaining spots are likely at a premium and I think this coaching staff is on the verge of adding another big-time talent. Today I'm predicting 2024 College of San Mateo cornerback Sione Laulea III to commit to the Oregon Ducks. To read more about Sione Laulea III and this prediction, click here.

Oregon football: Bitter rivalry may be ending for Ducks in big road test Oregon and Stanford. Two teams that, at least for me and probably many other Oregon football fans, have had one of the biggest rivalries over the last eleven years. The Cardinal have won six of those games against Oregon, both on the Farm and also inside Autzen Stadium. With the Pac-12 Conference down to two schools and Stanford and California headed to the ACC next season, this important and historic rivalry is coming to an end this weekend. This matchup is among the first of the dominoes to fall as the Pac-12 football season gets going. Both teams have seen each other on the schedule for the better part of over 120 years with their first meeting going back to 1900. Injury Report: Pair of new Ducks could make Oregon debuts vs. Stanford Considering Oregon is preparing to play its fifth game of the season, the injury list has been quite small, but it increased after last week’s 42-6 win over Colorado. Fortunately, the injuries are still few and the Ducks should be able to overcome them, especially since they’re playing Stanford and a bye week is coming. Oregon needs to come out of Palo Alto with not only a win, but with a smaller injury list. The Ducks will have two weeks to heal up some and prepare with a huge matchup with Washington. The injury list is still very manageable for the Ducks and they’ll have their little web toes crossed it remains that way Sunday morning. Here’s the list of banged-up Ducks heading into the game with the Cardinal.
