  3. LB Hill on Jestin Jacobs' eventual return from injury: 'I'm excited for the world to see what he has to offer' Through four games of the 2023 season, Oregon's additions through the transfer portal have impacted every win. Against Colorado, it was Jordan Burch, Evan Williams, and Khyree Jackson showcasing their talents on the defensive side, combining for 12 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and three PBU's. In a road win over Texas Tech, Tysheem Johnson, Williams, and Jackson combined for 16 tackles, one sack, and an interception. Every game, the Ducks' offseason additions have impacted a game heavily on the defensive side of the ball. 4. Ducks become heavy favorites to land top-uncommitted RB in 2024 class It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster when it comes to the recruiting predictions for 4-star running back Jason Brown, the No. 2 rated player from the state of Washington. Originially, the Washington product was favored to pick the hometown Washington Huskies, but earlier this summer, some predictions came in for Brown — a 4-star player rated as the No. 113 overall prospect in the 2024 class, and the No. 6 overall RB — to land with the Michigan State Spartans. However, after taking a visit to Oregon over the weekend for their demolition of the Colorado Buffaloes, Brown is now being predicted to land with Dan Lanning and the Ducks. On Wednesday, a pair of Crystal Ball predictions came in from 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong and Brandon Huffman for Brown to land in Eugene. There is not yet any word on when Brown will make his commitment, but things are looking good for the Ducks at the moment. Currently, Oregon has the No. 12 recruiting class in 2024, with 3-star RB Da’Jaun Riggs being the only other player at that position in this class. 8. Sione Laulea III, Nation's No. 1 JUCO Prospect, Sets Commitment Date 2024 College of San Mateo (Calif.) cornerback Sione Lauleaa III has set a commitment date. The nation's No. 1 junior college prospect will announce his college commitment on October 8 at 5:00 pm PT, according to story posted on his instagram page. He'll choose from a final three of the Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans and the Miami Hurricanes. Laulea is rated a four-star (0.9000) recruit by the 247Sports Composite Juco. The same system ranks him the No. 1 player nationally, the No. 1 cornerback and the No. 1 recruit in California. Listed at 6'4", 185 pounds, his unique blend of size, speed and agility is part of what helped him garner 18 reported scholarship offers. In the months leading up to his college commitment he took official visits to Oregon, USC, Penn State, Miami and Utah. Oregon wasn't considered much of a contender in his recruitment until he took his final official visit to Eugene in June, and the Ducks, led by defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi and cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin, showed him that he has a home in Eugene and can be developed into an NFL cornerback. "But as soon as I got to put my own two feet on the campus, I got to see the true development and true love behind the coaching staff," Laulea told Ducks Digest of the trip. "Coach Tosh Lupoi, he was well-invested in in my time being there. He almost didn't leave my side. Which meant a lot to me." Further aiding Oregon's chances in this recruitment is the development of cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who was selected by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. In the short few weeks since the NFL season began, Gonzalez has put the league on notice, grabbing his first interception and registering his first NFL sack. But Martin's trail of strong cornerback development doesn't stop there, as Oregon cornerbacks Khyree Jackson and Jahlil Florence have been instrumental in the Ducks' defense showing so much promise in 2023. 9. Oregon Quarterback Bo Nix Emerges As Heisman Trophy Candidate, NFL Draft Prospect So far this year, the Ducks are showing they’re more than just a hype-filled program. They are 4-0 and ranked ninth in the Associated Press poll following last Saturday’s 42-6 victory over Colorado, a previously undefeated team that had been the talk of college football thanks to flamboyant coach Deion Sanders. Nix ranks second in Division 1 with a 79.4% completion percentage and 12th with a 180.5 passing efficiency rating. He has thrown for 1,169 yards with 11 touchdowns and one interceptions... 12. 5 Cardinal the Ducks need to watch out for on Saturday This game would probably take a different tone if Stanford hadn’t lost to Sacramento State. The Cardinal are 1-3 with their only win coming at Hawaii, but they should be 2-2. That loss to the Hornets sticks out like a sore thumb, however. Stanford has gone through two quarterbacks, which is never a good sign. When you play two quarterbacks, it means you don’t have any quarterbacks and the lack of offensive production shows it. The defense is playing better and had its best game just this past week against Arizona, but the Cardinal still went down 21-20 at home. Even with the “rebuild,” Stanford has some players Oregon can’t ignore and could hurt the Ducks if they have a letdown. But after the Colorado game, it’s doubtful Dan Lanning will allow that to occur. Here are five Cardinal that might have an impact on Saturday’s contest down on The Farm... 5 Cardinal the Ducks need to watch out for on Saturday DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Stanford has had more than its share of problems this season, but there are five Cardinal that stand out and Oregon needs to watch...
  13. We knew that going into the Oregon Ducks’ Week 4 matchup against the Colorado Buffaloes, we were finally going to get some answers about Dan Lanning’s defense in Year 2. While the Ducks’ D had looked solid through three games, a matchup with the Buffaloes would bring the No. 2 scoring offense, the No. 15 passing offense, and the No. 23 total offense to Eugene. Oregon stood up incredibly well to the test, holding Colorado without any points until there were less than 3 minutes on the clock in the fourth quarter, and the Ducks were also able to rack up 7 sacks in the game. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to say that the Ducks’ defensive rankings went up after that performance. Here’s where Oregon now ranks nationally in some key defensive statistics... 14. Oregon vs. Stanford: 'Tale of the Tape' for No. 9 Ducks vs. Cardinal With as many tough games as the Oregon Ducks will face on their schedule this season, there will be no shortage of weeks where it is easy for Dan Lanning to motivate his team and have them ready for the weekend. This isn’t one of those weeks. After the marquee matchup against the Colorado Buffaloes drew all of the college football world’s attention to Eugene, this week’s game against the Stanford Cardinal — a team ranked at the bottom of our Pac-12 Power Rankings — is going to have quite a different feel. “This is a bring-your-own juice game,” Lanning said on Monday. “It’s gonna be a different atmosphere. But if you step on the grass and it means something to you, you’re gonna step on there and try to perform to a certain level because you have pride you know in the game.” Every week leading up to a game, we dive into the numbers for each team, and certain stats for players, trying to see if we can get an idea of which side has the ultimate edge. 16. Oregon DL Target Jericho Johnson Picks up New Recruiting Prediction On Tuesday, it looks like the Ducks are gaining ground with one of their top uncommitted targets in the 2024 recruiting class. Fairfield (Calif.) Armijo defensive lineman Jericho Johnson has been predicted to commit to the Oregon Ducks by Justin Hopkins of On3's ScoopDuck.com. Johnson was on campus over the weekend for an unofficial visit and saw Oregon blow the doors off of Colorado en route to a 42-6 win. 18. Patience paying off for Duck pass rusher Jordan Burch Oregon defensive end Jordan Burch opens up about his first 2.0 sack performance of his collegiate career. Dan Lanning believes his defense learned a valuable lesson in Saturday's 42-6 rout of Colorado. Establishing a potent pass rush doesn't require bringing the house. In Lanning's eyes it was the success the team had without extra rushers that the team can build off of in future weeks. "I think we learned a little bit about ourselves. There’s value in patience," he said on Saturday. "We were able to apply pressure. We were able to be disruptive to the quarterback but it wasn’t like we were out there blitzing seven every down." The majority of Oregon's seven sacks came from three or four man pressures. Those plays were pretty simple. With the defensive backs keeping Buffalo receivers from coming free, the down linemen were able to beat their men and tee off on Shedeur Sanders. South Carolina transfer Jordan Burch was especially disruptive on those plays. He recorded a career-best 2.0 sacks against the Buffaloes. The junior now has 3.0 sacks over the past two games...
