  1. The only concern with staying in the Pac-10, as others have pointed out, is the discrepancy in revenue, which will be roughly $30M a year.  When revenue sharing starts with the players, things will fall off quickly for schools not in the BIG or SEC and the gap will continue to widen.

What good is it making the BCS/playoff, if you just get run off the field every time like Notre Dame?

I want Oregon to stay in the Pac-10, but the conference has to come up with a creative plan to close that revenue gap, or the entire conference is toast IMO.

  2. I read somewhere a while back that the Pac-10 conference was going to allow USC and UCLA to remain in conference in several west coast sports.  There was a group of 4 or 5 sports and one was beach volleyball (I don't remember the others).  When I read that, I was completely shocked and I hope it is not true.

IMHO We lost last year due to critical and devastating injuries especially on defense.

We had to play multiple walk-ons and freshman. Our LB, WR, RB, TE, S lost some of their best players for the season. Our OL never started the same line up the whole season.

The stress of seeing this occur took away a promising season for the players and coaches starting from the Stanford game on.

When the fans booed in the Cal game it was basically over. After watching TT this year do you feel the same about the coaching staff not putting him in the game. I do not.

You can't and won't beat the best teams in  situations like that no matter who the coaches are.

Interestingly enough, Miami is having those same injury issues right now.  I wonder if the strength and conditioning / practice routine under the previous staff had an impact on the number of injuries or if it is just a coincidence.

  4. Just how good is the offense right now?  The most telling stat to me is that the Ducks have scored TDs on 7 straight possessions in 2 games already this season.  That is just flat out insane.

I wonder when was the last time that happened prior to this year?  Not sure how to look that up, but I am guessing that it is a pretty rare occurrence.  My gut says that Chip's teams probably did it a few times.

From the sound of what I have heard is that Lanning realized that they tried to teach too much of the defense. And players weren't comfortable with the scheme for Georgia.

So they have had to scale back and reteach a lot of it. It isn't too surprising that it may take a couple years for the defense to fully grasp the defense.

100% for sure!  You could see during the Georgia game that they were confused, even before the snap.  Guys were thinking and not playing free.  They were out of position and late to react, which resulted in a bunch of missed tackles and big plays by Georgia.

IMO it is getting a little bit better each week, but they are not there yet.  This week will be a HUGE test with Arizona's receivers.

  6. I’ll guess 5 years.  He will end up recruiting well enough to win 8 to 10 games a year in the ACC.  It is not like there is much competition outside of Clemson and 1-2 other schools that get hot or are set up for a good year, like an FSU, NCSU, UNC or maybe Wake.

Once fans realize that his conservative style won’t win them playoff games, he will eventually get replaced.

  7. IMO I don’t see any team making it through conference play undefeated.

USC is a paper tiger.  They are living off turnovers and their OL is a sieve.  When they meet upper teams in the conference with a decent defense and that take care of the ball, they will drop games.

Oregon has issues in the secondary, with penalties, and with redzone execution.  Those will catch up to them at least one time.

Utah has a talent gap.  Improved coaching at USC, UW, and Oregon will make it more difficult for them to win against the teams at the top of the conference stacked with talent.

UCLA is looking good and DTR is playing extremely well. They are well rounded on offense and defense, while not elite.  However, their schedule is a nightmare and I don’t see how they run the table.  They still have Cal who is playing better, Oregon, USC, and Utah plus the championship game.
