  1. And it's mind boggling that the Pac-12 could not match the linear broadcast TV dollars and exposure of the Big XII, after they rejected the original offer from ESPN. Something doesn't smell right...
  2. TT looked really good on that drive. Made good decisions and put the ball on the money. Hope that it has clicked for the young man because he has the talent. Needs to learn to slide though...
  3. Is Troy Franklin the best wide receiver to ever play at Oregon?
  4. Oregon's offense picked up right where it left off last season but I want to see how the o-line performs against an evenly matched d-line. While Oregon's defense settled down after the first series, there have been some defensive breakdowns that they'll need to clean up. Like what I saw from Jordan Burch. Hope he can be a real difference maker on D and be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.
  5. I have much respect for Whittingham and the Utah program. I’m sure that they’ll do very well in the Big XII and perhaps our paths will cross in the college football playoffs.
  6. Obviously, Cowherd has never played organized sport and is not a COMPETITOR.
  7. And this is why the B1G will not catch up with the SEC on the football field but at least the presidents can turn up their collective noses and talk about academics and success of Olympic sports. If the SEC adds Clemson and FSU, then the new SEC has won 9 of the past 10 college football national championships. Ohio State is the only outlier.
  8. If the B1G wants to compete with the SEC on the football field, then they should add the strongest football programs. Clemson and FSU have both gone toe-to-toe with the best in the SEC and won national championships. Forget athletic snobbery. Look where it got Stanford and Cal, and by extension the soon to be extinct PAC-12.
  9. What is Fox’s latest game slot? Do they have any weekday games? Seems like ESPN is the one with the crazy times (e.g., 10pm ET, Thursday night).
  10. Yes, it’s too bad that the LA schools bolted for more money, leaving the rest of the Pacific schools hanging. Hope Chip had those conversations with UCLA’s AD during that decision period…
  11. The NFL has a salary cap and splits TV, merchandise and licensing revenues equally. What you are describing is more like MLB. One model creates an unequal playing field for those in the largest cities, while the other promotes parity. If I were in charge of the NCAA, I know which model I would prefer.
  12. Agreed. As of right now, we also have Baylor and Oklahoma State. I'm assuming that this is part of the recruiting pitch...
  13. I don't understand why the ACC would agree to add Stanford and/or Cal without additional TV dollars for the existing schools, given the additional travel costs. The schools that are opposed to expansion want out of the conference.
  14. Even as a fan of a rival team, you hate to see these season ending injuries to these young men. I want to beat the Huskies on the field, best on best (no excuses). I hope that both players are able to fully recover and come back stronger next year.
  15. Unlike Joey's poster, neither of the Bo Nix billboards mention the Heisman. This is about promoting your players and program, and will show future recruits what Oregon is willing to do to for them. Perhaps this was part of Oregon's pitch to Bo for him to come back for his final year? The purpose of advertising is to draw attention to your brand and/or product. Given people are talking about the billboards are proof that they are effective.
  16. Ohio State recruits with the best in all of college football (e.g., Alabama, Georgia) and it's going to be challenging for Oregon to catch them, until we win a National Championship (or two), IMHO. Since the B1G is a coast to coast conference, I expect our recruiting pipelines to improve in the mid-west and northeast. Lanning and company have done a really good job recruiting Texas. I wonder if we'll need to schedule some home-and-home series with some of the Texas schools to keep that pipeline going. That said, Southern California will always be crucial to Oregon's success, and it's great that we ruined USC's recruiting pitch by joining the B1G. Fight on!
  17. Apple overplayed their hand and ended up with nothing. In negotiations, you always try to figure out what the other side wants or at least what they are willing to settle for. If I’m Oregon (or Washington) there is no way that I agree to a 100% streaming option, at this point in time, with no linear TV coverage. National exposure is still too important (e.g., for recruiting - the lifeblood of a college program). One or both programs might have been willing to entertain Apple’s offer, if there was a linear component (or if Apple or Amazon was offering Saudi level money…) The PAC-12 commissioner should have known this too and shame on him for not coming to the schools with options. He and the consultant he hired were terrible and put the final nail in the PAC-12 coffin.
  18. The University of Oregon leadership has a fiduciary responsibility to the University of Oregon. Joining the B1G was a no brainier, given the instability of the Pac-12 conference, media deal with no linear exposure and the future of college athletics featuring 2 super-conferences. It's sad that a 100+ year old conference came to an end but it is a result of years of poor leadership and decisions. The move to the B1G ensures years/decades of continued financial independence for the University of Oregon athletic department, national exposure/relevance and access to the college football playoffs. The future media payout and exposure will enable Oregon to continue to compete at the highest levels of college athletics.
  19. Cristobal and staff chased recruiting stars, instead of doing the hard work of evaluating talent. We all know that the previous staff was not good at player development or in-game coaching, and dodged a bullet when Mario bolted for Miami. I'm optimistic that the current staff is not only signing 4/5 star players but are also signing some 3 star players who they believe have some upside. Time will tell if they can develop the talent that they sign. As Charles mentioned, the transfer portal has changed the game and the recruiting services need to figure out how to incorporate transfer players into the team's overall recruiting ratings (not that Lanning and staff cares).
  20. Oregon won the final Pac-10 football title and the first ever Pac-12 football title, so winning the final Pac-12 football title has a nice symmetry about it...
  21. If loyalty is so important to Scott Barnes, then why isn't he still the AD at Utah State? I'm sure that money and prestige had nothing to do with his decision to leave for Pitt and then Oregon State...
  22. Michigan basketball is finally going to have to come to Eugene, Oregon. LOL.
