Oregon Nears the Top of Transfer Portal Rankings after Latest Addition
The Oregon Ducks’ excellence in the transfer portal has continued into the end of January, with Dan Lanning and the Ducks most recently adding Jabbar Muhammad, a former Washington cornerback. After Muhammad’s transfer, Oregon climbed near the top of the 247 Sports’ transfer portal rankings. Also, after the addition of Muhammad, Oregon retained its spot at No. 5 in the overall rankings of the 2024 recruiting class. Muhammad is a blue-chip transfer, but he certainly isn’t the only big portal pickup Lanning has made this offseason. Early in December, the Ducks received commitments from star quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore, and they’ve also added elite players such as Evan Stewart and Jamaree Caldwell. Since classes have begun at most universities, movement in the transfer portal is winding down, so these rankings won’t change much until the portal reopens in the spring. Below, I’ve listed what are likely the final transfer portal rankings of the winter transfer window. UO and City of Eugene Sign Land swap Agreement Paving Way for new Football Indoor Practice Facility
More than two years since plans for Oregon’s new indoor football practice facility were announced, there is finally a formal timeline for its construction. The city of Eugene and University of Oregon negotiated for nearly a year and a half over a land swap that will facilitate UO rerouting Leo Harris Parkway in order to accommodate the new indoor football practice facility. That agreement was signed on Dec. 21, according to documents received by The Oregonian/OregonLive in response to a public records request. The land swap calls for the university to trade 8.15 acres south of the Willamette River to the city for 5.55 acres of land across from the UO athletics complex, improvements to neighboring Alton Baker Park and parking areas along Leo Harris Parkway. The university will receive Privately Engineered Public Improvement (PEPI) permits from the city for various aspects of construction and rerouting of Leo Harris Parkway in the interim and once that work is complete, then the deeds will be exchanged at closing, which is to be no later than Sept. 30, 2025, according to the agreement. While there is no start date listed for the construction of the new indoor facility, the agreement states construction of all university facilities is to be completed by Dec. 31, 2029. “The project is progressing as we had hoped,” a UO athletics spokesperson said. That will change this weekend, though, as some of those prospects take a trip to Eugene to check out the Oregon campus and visit the Ducks for their Junior Day this weekend. The list of visitors expected in Eugene is headlined by 5-star safety Faheem Delane, the No. 1 safety in the 2025 class. Ducks pick up prediction to land No. 4 TE in 2025 class The Oregon Ducks coaching staff has been out on the recruiting trail over the past couple of weeks making stops to see highly-rated prospects across the country. While that was happening, though, they got a prediction to land one of the top players at his position in the 2025 class. On Wednesday, On3’s Chad Simmons logged a projection for 4-star tight end DaSaahn Brame to end up with the Ducks. Brame is rated by 247Sports as the No. 95 player in the 2025 class, and the No. 4 tight end available. Standing at 6-foot-6, 235 pounds, Brame is a massive body at the TE position, and he would offer elite upside as a pass-catcher. Way-too-early record predictions for every Big Ten team in 2024 Based on the continued fluidity of rosters in the world of college football thanks to the churn of the transfer portal and the coaching carousel, it is still far too early to get a perfect read on who will be contending for a national championship at the end of the first inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024. It’s not too early to speculate, though. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve offered our top-25 rankings predictions for 2024, as well as forecasting which 12 teams will make it into the CFP, and what the first expanded rankings of the Big Ten will look like for the Oregon Ducks. We wanted to take a second to expand a little bit on that last one. In 2024, the Big Ten is expected to be a premier conference, with several national title contenders at the top like Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, and Penn State. While we’ve predicted what the power rankings should look like in the conference going into the season, we wanted to now take it a step further and flesh out the final records for each and every team. What are the toughest games, and which ones should be the easiest wins? Who will ultimately be bowl-eligible when all is said and done? Those are questions that we want to answer.
