The NIL situation has become disconcerting when it comes to recruiting. We lost JC to Tennessee and might possibly lose Overton to TAMU? Who knows how much USC is willing to pay out for this same very purpose, to beat out the competition.
I feel like the NIL has brought sad days to college football. Colleges losing out with top recruits because they can't compete financially with other institutions who can. Oregon might not be able to bring in these recruits because of this, even though we have great facilities and what it has to offer for recruits as student athletes as one of the perks. But it seems now whoever is the highest bidder takes the prize.
I feel like NIL money shadowing over a school who spent a lot of money for certain players, what is this going to do to a team as a whole? Not just football but basketball, baseball, track and field as well as other non-profiting sports?
I know this has been a conversation for awhile, but it's frustrating seeing this happening that could possibly destroy college sports as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I believe players should be compensated above a full scholarship ride, but NIL should be harnessed with check and balances so there isn't this free for all that is going on.
Sorry, I guess I am ranting. I hope I am wrong about this whole situation and rules will eventually be put in place, but so far it does not look good.

I wasn't agreeing to what he was saying as well, but wanted others take on this just in case if I was missing something. I think the PAC12 should have expanded pulling in the Big 12 schools when they had the chance. That would have been a better deal instead of this Alliance.

You all might have already read this article by Jon Wilner on why he believes the Alliance has accomplished its mission. Read this from another blog sight. Wanted to share just in case you haven't.
Blast it all you want, but the Alliance has already accomplished its mission

Arizona under Rich Rod would regularly run more plays than Oregon... but Oregon's offense was more efficient and more explosive. In the only stat that matters... Oregon had more wins. 80 plays per game doesn't mean those are efficient plays, just lots of plays run.
I think that is the right ingredient..."Oregon's offense was more efficient and more explosive." I feel under MC we weren't really either of these in most games along with a stout defense.

This would be a great addition. Hope coaches can make Oregon his landing spot!

No direct knowledge, but could it be that we eliminated the Utes from a potential playoff invite in a previous Pac12 championship game?
That is what I was thinking as well.

Hi Charles,
You are correct, you stand by your conviction. It's because of those convictions helped kept this site safe, insightful, engaging and successful!
Love reading all the contributions everyone has presented to this site. Without those convictions this sight would not be what it is today.
Thanks Charles

My guess says James to Oregon, Broadingham to FLA, Iuli to Miami, Miller to GA.
So glad to get Jahlil! He is a baller.
Agree, so glad we got Jahill. Hoping coach L can pull off more surprises with the other 4.

Will other conferences follow?
One mistake the PAC12 made was not to expand to more teams when they had the opportunity. Let's hope this will not be mistake number 2. PAC12 needs to follow BIG10 in this. Two fold:
1. Eliminate Divisions
2. Cut down number of conference games from 9 to 8.

Rivals predicts Oregon will land both 247Sports five star offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. and consensus four-star offensive/defensive lineman Dave Luli. Link to story below by Andrew Nemec. Though, like Nemec says "In other words, Rivals’ predictions are a good sign for Oregon, but those commitments are far from locks."

Great News!! So glad he is returning.

This is so confusing to me as to "What in the World is he Thinking?" Wish he made this decision before Benson decided to leave. Maybe Benson would have stayed.
I can not figure out why so many players think transfer portal is such a great idea? Here's hoping maybe coach L can pull a great running back from the portal (maybe the two running backs from Stanford?).
-
Really sadden over Benson leaving . I think do to injuries he never was able to get a good footing in showing what he can do. I agree with Dye that Benson was going to be one of Oregon's best RBs.
Sorry to see that so many players think the transfer portal is going to give them greener pastures. Sadden to see so many might get lost in the portal and never find a landing spot. The grass is not always greener on the other side.
Let's hope coach L is able to get great players needed through the portal and recruits by the Feb. time period.
Looking forward to the new coaching staff bringing bright future for Oregon. Go Ducks!!

Thank you Charles,
I agree with you and others on this matter. Thank you for this open letter to Coach Lanning.
Coach Lanning,
You will find that Duck fans are fanatical and loyal. All we ask is to be open and honest with us. We know all things take time to implement your plans. We stand behind you in fan support to see your plans to come into fruition.
We love your DEFENSE at Georgia! It was fun to see what Georgia's defense did in dismantling Michigan's offense. As Charles mentioned, please bring the high octane offense back to Oregon!
Best wishes to you and the Georgia Bull Dogs in the NC game against Alabama this year!
We are excited to see what you and staff are able to do on the recruiting trail/transfer portal, but importantly on the Xs and Os, game management and player development.
Welcome aboard Coach Lanning. Go Ducks!

Hi David,
Thank you for the article. I agree, need to move on.
I guess to me the saddest part of this was not having enough time for the new coaching staff to come onboard to help secure most of the incoming recruiting class. Here's hoping for a favorable turn around before the Feb. deadline.
Looking forward to a bright future with the new coaching staff and the potential they will bring to the table in all facets of the football program. Hopefully making Oregon a powerhouse not only in the PAC12, but future NC potential.
Again, here's to the new coaching staff, players and a fanatical fanbase that will make a winning combination toward future endeavors!
Thanks all! This forum/site has been and will always be such a great blessing!! This is due to the many members giving their time, effort, intelligence and for the love of the game with a safe environment that makes this place FIRST CLASS!!
GO DUCKS!! and HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!

Hopefully will see the one we hope to see which is at QB position sometime in the game. There is an audio pod you can listen to as well.

Here is the thread on the questions and answers from McClendon and Stoops:
It seems McClendon is playing down the amount of missing players.

As a final note, no matter what happened, even if cristobal stayed oregon was guaranteed to have a number of transfers. currently speaking has 86 scholarshipped players(the limit is 85 but partially extended due to covid). when you calculate seniors, current transfers, and nfl draftee's. Oregon maybe has 10-12 scholarships open... we currently have 12 players commited.
I guess what was alarming is seeing some using the transfer portal and seeing the recruits pulling away. Such bad timing MC leaving having no time to hold on to the recruits before signing day. Plus we are losing so many of the coaches that could have helped kept this recruiting class together. Frustrating.
Will need one heck of a coaching staff that can recruit like MC did, but better Xs and Os with good game management. According to what Canzano it seems Rob has a wider group of donors involved in the next hiring. Here is the article:

Maybe what we should have done was create a respectful petition for all Oregon fans to put their name on with a list of coaches we think they should consider. Maybe this is unrealistic to even produce.

Judging from what I’m reading it’s between Wilcox, Chip, or Sitake. Everybody else is just rumors.
Not happy with those selection. What is going on in the minds of those in charge finding a coach? This can't be happening that they would settle on these three. This is not the way to go. Talk about aiming too low. If this is what Mullens and the like are thinking, it's time to get a new AD.
-
We are losing recruits as well as players thru the transfer portal. He is wasting time interviewing Sitake, Wilcox and asking permission to interview Kelly. Seriously! As far as I am concern these are not the coaches to go after. This can't be the best Oregon can do attracting coaches.

Thanks Mike for a great article. Does anyone know if the spring game will be televised? I live on the East coast.
