I agree with everything you say. I just wonder after adding these 4 Pac 12 schools if it would make sense to hold until any possibility of adding some ACC ones when the SEC and ACC pull some away. It would be interesting to see a poll of current Big 12 schools but I would be if the questions were asked, "Which Pac 12 team would you be most excited about adding" the answer would be Oregon. Oregon has done a great job building it's brand and the Nike relationship is incredible. We could ensure every team in the new conference has Nike contracts. : ) I read something about how Apple had considered buying Disney in the past who owns ESPN. Maybe moves like this will be made that open more doors. If we end up in a new conference like this I think we have to be much more creative with media and corporate contracts. The Big 12 announced a new commissioner the day before the announcement that UCLA and USC were leaving. Interesting timing. He has alot of big time experience with sports contracts including the largest one in North America (if I remember correctly) with NASCAR. He is also said to be incredibly well connected in the media world. We'll see. Man I would love to have the Ducks in our conference!!

Brett Yormark is a great get for the conference as commissioner!  You need someone like him who has this kind of experience and creativeness to broker a new media rights deal that can get the conference the most money as possible for the universities.  I am looking forward for your conference to be very successful and vital in light of what is happening.

You will also have the Denver market (ranked 17) with Colorado and Salt Lake City (as you mentioned) with Utah as well with BYU.  Great rivalry between Utah and BYU!  Not sure what is happening with Washington (great rivalry with our Ducks) or with Stanford and CAL.  Stanford and CAL of course in the Bay area which ranks 6.

At this moment we are all in the dark as far as where our Beloved Ducks will land.  We are trusting Oregon will make the right decision moving forward.

My worry is we are all assuming status quo or improved playoff situation. It could go the other way, too. They may have sec and B1G have guaranteed spots (or two) but make ACC, pac 10 and big 12 have to fight for the other 2 with any cincinatis as second tier citizens. If they have all the money, they are going to make the rules in a revised playoff

I know I posted this on a different thread on here, but worth reading from Dan Wetzel at Yahoo Sports.  The way things are trending and what is happening in conference realignment, He stated the other conference could be relegated to group of 5 status when it comes to the playoffs.  Whether he is right or not, it's concerning.

Maybe a PAC/Big12 combo, it all depends where Oregon and Washington lands, could change what he is saying.  I have to say it would be great if the ACC/PAC/Big12 could combine with the best schools in each conference would make a third super conference with clout.  But, to make that happen would be very difficult to accomplish if at all.

Just like that the Pac-12 and ACC moved closer to the AAC and Mountain West than the Big Ten and SEC. And they can't blame anybody but themselves.

  3. Ideally if you could somehow combine PAC/Big12/ACC (38 universities plus ND) into one mega conference.  Sacrifices would have to be made as to which universities would be allowed in this newly formed super conference.  With the right universities and media markets spanning across a lot of regions could bring in a great media revenue contract.

If you kept all, you would need $1.95 billion in order for each university to receive 50 million.  If you kept 22 schools you would need $1.1 billion.

Not sure how logistically you would schedule 39 universities (if ND stayed where they are).  That would need to be figured out in splitting into pods.

It could be a very exciting and competitive conference, not only in Football and basketball, but all other sports.  But the reality is it would be very difficult, maybe impossible, for three conferences to come to an agreement to make it happen.

I am sure the ACC understands they could be next in jeopardy.

By the sound of some of the stuff I've read at various sources it does sound like Knight is involved with Oregon right now.

I also trust Mullens here. I think he has a better idea of what is going on than any of us know.

I agree.  As fans we are conflicted in what we think is the best move for Oregon in the long run.  Glad Phil Knight is involved!

He will do all he can to keep the Pac-12 alive, and that means he has a responsibility to the conference to do whatever it takes to keep Oregon and Washington in the conference.  I sure hope Oregon is getting good advice...because I don't think a university president knows squat about this

Let's hope Oregon got Phil Knight involved to advise them through this process. He's not one to crack under pressure.  At this point this is a business transaction and what's best for Oregon moving forward.

Thing is about adding school such as Boise State or Nevada, if the conference presidents still have influence as to what schools join, they want schools that academically (program wise, admissions wise) are in the same realm as PAC schools. Maybe those schools are, but I'm not sure.

UNLV has attain tier 1 research status.  They might fit better than Nevada.

  7. This is most likely why Oregon has not come out with any statement.  Maybe they are quietly waiting if they are excepted into the BIG.  I could be wrong, but Oregon is looking at all options and the big one is if they will be invited to the BIG.

I am conflicted about the whole thing, but like or not realty is super conferences are starting to happen.  If all possible Oregon can't be on the outside looking in.

  8. Canzano says per multiple sources, Folt assured her fellow Pac-12 chancellors and presents and even Kliavkoff that USC was committed to the conference---until it wasn't.

I agree, Phil Knight could help.  He loves Oregon and the state of Oregon.

Sense of urgency arises in Pac-12.

You lost me at 200,000 Duck market. Only 6 other teams have more fans. #1 in the Pac. There is Duck swag from sea to shining sea. Fan or not, Facts!

If the Ducks were SEC? A ton of SEC recruits would love to play in Eugene IN the SEC. Eugene would be loaded with Dudes.

I agree.  Oregon does have Portland which is number 21 media market.  Oregon also has a national brand with the 7th largest (5.54) fan base nationally as well as one of the top facilities in the country.

But evidently, according to Canzano, what Oregon and Washington has to offer is not enough.  He said he is not convinced either university brings enough value to make splitting the FOX television revenue with two additional partners to the BIG, a no-brainer.

If true, the offer from the Big 12 would be the best option to join?  That would bring the Big 12 to 16 teams.  Can this get a huge media deal and a super conference status to bring clout to the table?  This means CAL, Stanford, OSU, WSU, Utah and Colorado would be left out?

I hope the powers there be at Oregon (hoping Phil Knight is helping in this decision making on a business point of view) makes the right decision.

Any word on a public statement from the Ducks?

According to Pete Martini of the Salem Statesman Journal, Oregon has not made a public statement yet. Though that was as of yesterday, I still have not seen any statement yet come out.

I think it's wise they've stayed silent on this issue and have not made a rash public statement.  It's important they get this right.

He said  "the Ducks has built a national brand.  I don't think they'll want to be further involved in a severely damaged PAC12"

I wonder what kind of advice Phil Knight has given to the Oregon Administration in this matter?

  11. As much as I am sick about this whole disaster going on, Oregon needs to do what's best for Oregon.  Hoping the powers there be at Oregon along with Mr. Knight makes the correct path to take.

I think if Oregon gets an invite to join the BIG 10, take it.  Not sure if the PAC 12 really has anything to offer Oregon to stay put.  At this moment it seems trying ink out a new media deal will not be there.

The Ducks with the Fuskies would be the next pair plucked away. ACC must be sweating (foot)balls, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, they'll be next to move.... we're almost there, two power conferences then everybody else.

Where would Oregon go if not the BIG10?  It seems the BIG10 would be the way to go?

Maybe USC, UCLA, us and Wasington would be enticing for the BIG10 to take all  four schools?
