    I sure hope not debbie.

I'd hate for that to occur (but it might!) because that could kill this golden goose once-and-for-all.   If players start letting their teammates get hurt intentionally the NCAA would be criminal to let it to continue.  And what could they do to stop it?  Pay everyone, I guess.  Or, out-law the NIL - and good luck with putting that genie back in the bottle.

(Yeeessh, I sound like a doomsday predictor.  Forgive me)   GO DUCKS!

Well I say pay everyone a base flat rate.

  2. Crowd noise is a huge part of the game.

My view of Lanning is still very much shelved for now.

Kirby Smart has been known for being a defensive genius for a long time now.   And that Georgia defense hasn’t missed a beat with Lanning gone.

I am grateful for that crowd noise and for being here and not at UCLA.  If we win that WiLL be the reason.  IMO

We better score first and keep the crowd rocking!

    Sadly, not.

If our CFB programs are making so much $$ off these young men, why are they still charging tuition for the rest of the campus?  If getting a scholarship to attend college virtually free isn't enough to entice and reward these young men to come play football what's that say about the value of that college education?

Good Lord!  How did it all come to this?

Give it another year and let’s see how players who are not getting money,  block for those who are?

Jealousy will begin to raise its head before this is over.

According to KPNW radio this morning SI magazine reporting that a Utah official says one college team (Alabama implied) has offered TE Dalton Kincaid a $ million buckeroos to transfer.  If you didn't see the game last Saturday evening , Kincaid had 16 catches (1 TD) in an incredible demonstration on how not to cover a TE, by USC.  It was the Rising-Dalton show for most of the 2nd Half.

A $ million to transfer!  Who says collegiate football isn't heading towards 'minor league' status for the NFL?  Except I don't remember reading about minor league ball players getting a $ million. Nick Saban might have a lot of 'splainin' to do.  If true, what should happen to Saban, if anything?  Where's this all headed?

(How much should Oregon 'demand' for Bo Nx?)

I’ve been saying it now for a while.  It’s NOT college football anymore

This is a subject we have discussed extensively in the past.  Not sure going all-out negative on him after only half a season is fair, especially when we have such a limited view of their reality.  I am not going to count him out until he gives me reason to....and we have only seen the opposite to date.

And no...the quarterback thing is not a reason.  Again...we are not in the QB room, and don't know what is there and just how good the No. 2 recruit in the United States (Donte Moore) is.

I am not trying to be argumentative, as I want to see all opinions.  But this is such a negative topic without any evidence--do you see how you might have jumped-the-gun a bit?

You know...an offense like ours will become attractive to every portal transfer QB there is out there.  We will be fine...

Justin Flowe and Lanning_Joe Jackson Jr..jpg

I wasn’t being negative on him.  Just wouldn’t blame him is all.  College football, is becoming professional football, and conferences are changing rapidly.

Thinking he may get an offer from one of the major conferences may be a negative for us, but not for a young guy like him.

I don't know hardly a friend of mine (Duck fans) that didn't wish Kelly had either stayed put at Oregon or that he would have come back when the opportunity arose.  That said, he didn't and finally (!) Oregon has another head coach that might be just as exciting and just as successful anyway and none of us (my friends nor I) want to see Lanning traded for Chip.  Not yet, anyway.

But sadly, lurking in the background is the very real likelihood that if Lanning has the measure of success we all hope for either another larger, more prestigious school (or the NFL) will swoop in and take him away just like Chip.

If/when that happens would Oregon ever seek to offer Chip the job back again and would Chip even consider it?  Impossible to know but I think probably not on both counts.

It's the one thing I dislike most about the CFB - the endless turntable of coaches (and now players too) as teams change lineups like uniform combinations.

And next year Lanning loses the offensive lineman and Bo Nix.

I have been curious to see if Lanning left this season, if he gets to PAC 12 championship game.

College  is now pro with paid players.  There is very little loyalty anymore.

I would not fault Lanning for leaving for the Big or SEC if offered this year.

we are not developing a QB for next year for some reason.  That is main reason I won’t be surprised if Lanning is leaving.

The issue isn't the Ducks defense, question is on the UCLA defense. UCLA had played some weak teams in Bowling Green, Alabama St, South Alabama and Colorado.

The last two games at home they gave up an average of 445 yards to UW and Utah - Oregon has the # 1 offense in the Pac and this is a road game for UCLA.

The Ducks have the #13 rush defense and UCLA is #16 but UCLA has played soft teams. Utah is the #34 rush offense and UCLA gave up 192 yards at home to Utah. The Ducks have the #10 rush offense with great OL - and it's a road game for UCLA.

Georgia has the #5 rush defense giving up 3.3 yards a carry and Oregon put up 4.5 yards per carry on the road. The UCLA run defense isn't the caliber of the UGA run defense and this is a road game.

The Oregon OL and run game is the best UCLA will be facing all year. UCLA has to stop the Ducks run game and if they stuff the box then the Ducks have shown they can pass over the top of you like Bo did against WAZZU.

UCLA only has one 4-star DL, Edge and LB who start on the front seven and have to face that Ducks OL. UCLA has lots of older players on its roster, but they have 24 blue-chips to Oregon's 52. (Fun fact, UCLA has four QBs who are 4-stars of those 24 blue-chips) The Ducks out talent UCLA by a wide margin and the Ducks play almost the entire two deep on defense all game long. So, the Ducks are the fresher and more talented team in the second half.

The flip side applies to the UCLA offense and defense matchup. UCLA has one 4-star OL guy, they have a bunch of older 3-star OL dudes on the OL two deep. The Ducks have much higher ranked talent on defense than UCLA has on offense. Sure, Chip has a Vet QB with lots of Vet players and is known for making that work.

But remember UCLA went out to a 14-0 lead after the first two possessions of the game last year in LA. Then the Ducks took the gave over the next two quarters and dominated outscoring them 27-3. The Ducks did have KT to take over the game last year, but they are home this year.

The Ducks with the big talent advantage and better coaching under Lanning at home win this game hands down.

I’m not sure I agree on the talent difference.

I will take 3 stars who perform over 4 and 5 stars who aren’t.  Are defensive backs and linebackers should be tearing it up in the pac 12.   Instead we were darn lucky to best WSU

The Ducks had a bye but it was still a very very interesting week. I will be honest and say the top portion of these rankings are far easier than the bottom, and to date the opposite has been true.

    12. Colorado (1-5) - Colorado won on Saturday against Cal, so why isn't Cal down here? Well Cal did a lot to lose that game. Cal had more offense and was on the whole the better team on the field except they couldn't finish. Colorado is playing with some energy with their new interim head coach Mike Sanford. Could Sanford be the next head coach at Colorado? Possibly he had Colorado playing with passion but even with all that it is clear that Colorado does not have the talent on the field just yet.

    11. Cal (3-3) - Cal showed why Oregon fans were happy that Wilcox is not at Oregon. Their defense was pretty good against Colorado but their offense and special teams couldn't score to save their lives. They left at least nine points on the field during regulation. If they scored any of those points they would have won. Instead, they have the most embarrassing defeat on their record.

10.5. Notre Dame (3-3) - Wait Notre Dame isn't in the conference... and that's absolutely true. But for Funsies they would rank here. They beat Cal but lost to Stanford. My point being... Notre Dame is bad this year and isn't that just delightful!

    10. Arizona State (2-4) - Arizona State beat Washington in their last game and that win is looking solid but Washington's defense is looking bad, more on that later. Arizona State will have a few chances to try and win a few games and it will all come down to how good this interim staff is.

    9. Stanford (2-4) - It feels odd to put Stanford here as they are the only team now that doesn't have a single conference win. Both Cal and Colorado have conference wins! But I do think Stanford will get at least two conference wins this year. They will probably beat Arizona State and Cal. Or the way things are going... they may not.

    8. Arizona (3-4) - Arizona lost to Cal but beat Colorado, so why is Arizona so far ahead of Cal? Well Arizona is improving from week to week whereas Cal is stuck in neutral, or getting worse. Arizona has a deadly offense but their defense is letting them down but they are improving.

    7. Washington (5-2) - Isn't if funny that Washington's problem this year is the complete opposite from their problems the last two years... they are all offense and no defense where last year they couldn't score if the other team was on the sideline. But this year their defense is so bad it's like the defense is just sitting on the sideline. Washington will win games where they are a shootout but lose if they actually need to play defense.

Also... Washington has continued to prove that they can't travel. It will be interesting to see how they do at Cal, Oregon and Washington State.

    6. Washington State (4-3) - What happened to Washington State they seemed unstoppable, and then they had road games. Washington State plays better at home, like pretty much everyone in this conference. Washington State hasn't proven they can win on the road, or at least win on the road in the Pac-12 and that is something they will need to do if they want to move up these rankings.

    5. Oregon State (5-2) - Oregon State has figured out their quarterback problem for now. I wouldn't say it is permanently fixed but they have a working solution for the moment. Oregon State might finally be putting together a mid season win streak. Their next game is an early November showdown at Washington. If Oregon State's defense can keep this one close then their run game will have a chance to take out the Huskies.

    4. USC (6-1) - Down go the Trojans! But they are still much better than everyone below them here but they lost to Utah so that has to count against them even if it was just by one point. In short this team has a ton of skill position power but when it comes to defense they live and die by turnovers.

    3. Utah (5-2) - Utah took down USC but lost to UCLA so this is one of those times where they fit perfectly in the rankings based on their record. This Utah team, however, is not the dominant team we saw last year. Their pass rush is not as good and their defensive backs were just too fast for USC but they did do just enough to beat USC.

    2. UCLA (6-0) - Why isn't UCLA at No. 1? Simply because they haven't had to play away from home besides one game against Colorado which shouldn't be considered much of an achievement.

    1. Oregon (5-1) - Crazy enough Oregon is one of two teams undefeated in conference play. They have their hardest games left this year at home which is a major advantage. Also Oregon has one of the best quarterbacks in the conference and certainly the best offensive line. They just need to beat out UCLA this week to hold onto this top spot and at that point they become in undisputed No.1 in the conference.

What are your thoughts on these rankings?

Like it with one exception maybe?  USC is going up by 3 touchdowns early in game when refs made a horrible roughing the passer call. They made several others all against USC. If this Game were to be played at USC they would kill Utah.

1st, I didn't watch the UCLA - Utah game so I'll take your word on that.  2nd, Oregon has let-up off the gas this season too, but with arguably lesser competition.  3rd, Even after watching Utah twice I'm still not convinced they have the offense to keep up with Oregon's.  They certainly didn't to keep up with UCLA's.

What's making this hard (and interesting) is neither UCLA or Oregon have played anyone in common so direct comparisons can't be made.  What we do know is that UCLA was able to slow down Utah and USC wasn't, while at the same time Utah was able to score points on USC where Oregon couldn't on Georgia.

Which all makes for more intrigue because how much better is Georgia than USC?  A Lot, we hope.  But even Missouri put a real scare in Georgia!

True enough.  I think USC gets destroyed by Georgia.

In fact if there were a 8 team playoff today I would have Georgia, Tennessee , Alabama, and Ole Miss in them.

I think it’s gotten that lop sided.

Not poking at you here, but over the tears I've found that using comparison as a big part of evaluating is faulty. and finding that one team was able to score on USC's D, but another team couldn't score on Georgia's, doesn't clarify anything.

Last year Michigan destroyed Ohio State.  Then remember what happens in playoffs.

    Michigan hit curb stomped.

You can only compare SEC teams to other SEC teams.  They are that much better

East coast Bias is hard to overcome. Does anyone doubt the expanded 12 team playoff will have six of the teams be from the SEC and B1G every year?

Of the 6 at large spots odds are four are SEC and B1G.

Well this season you could justify 3 or 4 sec teams.

Do you think JF has played to his expectations so far and do you think he's the feared LB'er we all heard he would be?  Every time I watch him play I'm worried he's gonna get penalized for personal fouls at the exact wrong moment and hurt the defense.  He's a bit of a loose canon in my mind.

True, but he is a canon!

And our D will have a lot to say how DTR plays. I'd like to see him get hit hard (legally) and rattled early.

DTR looked liked a prize fighter against Utah.  No goofing around, no smiling, no screwing off like usual.

He is dialed in this season.  I think we better score first.

Exactly what I'm thinking except O might need more than one turnover in this one. As I mentioned to Charles earlier this could be the mother of all shootouts unless the defenses of both are better than they've looked so far.

I think UCLA’s D has looked good.  If we spank Utah, like UCLA did,  and the game is basically  over at half, I will be happy.

Utah got 14 garbage points in the 4th after UCLA hung up their shoes.

Same with those tall WR's of Stanford's.  They had a lot of us worried yet, Oregon held up well.

One thing I think Oregon is really gonna need this game (more than any other since WSU) is a serious, consistent pass rush.  It looks to me like Lanning & Lupoi either disagree or they're dropping back to shore up the backfield instead.  I'm not smart enough to understand schemes in all their nuances but it doesn't look to me like either coach is committed to pressuring the QB consistently, only sporadically.  This is based on # of sacks.

It's been working so far.  But I'd really like to see DTR picking himself up of the turf a lot!

We haven’t played, in my opinion, the 4 best dual threat QB’s.  So it’s hard to get an honest read on our team

Are we better since Georgia?  No legitimate way to determine that yet.

UCLA is the first team we have played that has a V-8 for an engine.   They knocked Utah backwards, it wasn’t even a game.

I usually bet games, but not this coming Oregon game.  I simply have no Idea who we are yet?

You could give me Oregon and 14 points. I still wouldn’t bet.

You could give me UCLA and 14 points.  Still not betting!

If UCLA scores first it may be a long day?   To dramatic?

    • Wow 1
  15. We haven’t played a defense yet since Georgia.

    Voters know that I imagine.

Let’s see after we play Utah, UCLA, and Oregon State.

Win those with games and go to PAC 12 Championship game then maybe.

Main reasons I want to say no is simple.

USC has Williams and Georgia stomped us.

And if UCLA wins it will be there QB talked about.

Many of my questions will be answered this Saturday.

Lol ya.   It appears most have UCLA and Oregon about equal.

2 minutes into watching that game I saw a dirty kick to the head of a Ute on the ground, by a trojan. I thought to myself, there is no way I’m pulling for SC! I can’t stand them. Go Utah!!

What a scrappy win. Rising is a dude. Kincaid is a dude. That two point conversion is what football should be, playing to win.
    Helluva win, Utah.

The refs helped Utah three crucial times.  But now that USC lost I can root against them from here on out.

I think due to our loss to Georgia, UCLA is the last remaining hope for a PAC team in the playoffs.

I think UCLA  has a better defense than Oregon, Utah, and USC.  Unless Oregon proves me wrong this Saturday.

    Go Ducks.

I think Oregon has their match.

Oregon has one of the best offensive lines in the country and I honestly believe that. They held their own against Georgia... And Nix probably would have done better if he didn't roll out of the pocket so much that game in truth.

I watched a bunch of other teams have their lines get gashed by opponents defensive lines and these teams were higher ranked than Oregon.

Penn State was destroyed by Michigan. Tenn and Bama both look mortal on the offensive line side of things and we will get a better comparison when Tennessee plays Georgia.

USC's line is just good enough to give Williams time to find some incredible recievers.

But I don't think USC's defense can touch Nix.

Keep in mind Oregon's line has given up one sack this year and it was for -1 yard.

If it comes down to Oregon v USC in the championship game, it is going to be exciting.

Keep in mind too that Oregon's defense is improving at a spectacular pace as well.

Fair enough.  But on same note, who have we played?   We haven’t played a top 30 team since Georgia.  BYU stinks.
