I picked Tennessee over Bama by at least 10 points 3 days ago.
USC lights up Utah in Utah. 38-21
Both are great results for our Ducks!
-
Great read.
I am afraid though , the PAC will not be the same without those teams. I am trying balance a positive outlook with reality. But them leaving feels like a death blow to the PAC.

I will keep reminding peeps that GA lost to AL 41-24 and then beat AL barely a month later for the 2022 natty.
If ever there was a real reason to give a team a mulligan is when that team is playing its first game w a brand new coaching staff and QB against the reigning champs.
tOSU lost to Northwestern the first game of the season and won the Natty later against the Ducks.
I will argue that a 12-1 OR team doing a rematch against GA would be a MUST-SEE tv.
Mark my words… a 12-1 Duck team is in the CFP .
Alabama list both their best receivers and key defensive players before they played Georgia.

Oregon must win out.
USC must win out until we play them. Including beating Notre Dame
Alabama must lose one game before losing to Georgia.
That gives us a chance.
If all that happens, and Clemson loses a game. we’re in for sure
To be honest UCLA has easiest path to playoffs I think. They beat us they will go undefeated

There's one pretty big difference: did Oregon's AD help block Pac-12 expansion? On the "leaving" part, I agree with you. I even get it about lying to the commish, because it's not like you can make secret backroom deals in the light of day. But what SC did is akin to burning down someone else's business and then claiming their insurance money.
My head says it's better for the Ducks if SC wins, but that's only if SC and Oregon both make the championship game. Too many ifs and unknowns...not to mention I still think the Ducks are good enough to win the Pac-12 and then lose by 30 to an SEC team. We're just not there yet, IMHO.
Therefore, go Utah!
Agreed. If USC beats Utah and We beat UCLA we will be both in PAC 12 title game I think.
So let your love for the Ducks flow, and root for USC. If we lose go back to hating the trash from USC.

2nd para: Looking like it but will only know for sure at the end of the season.
3rd para: I can't pull for USC (tho it might help the Ducks), I think the game is closer than a spanking (tho I'd love it!) and all the southern teams we face are teams to beat (but I know what you
My love for the Ducks appears to be stronger than your hate for USC! Women are better at love as everyone knows, so nothing personal.
Though I think they lose, we need $C to win Mic.

I’m watching USC vs Utah
Utah wins 31-24
Bama vs Tennessee.
Tennessee wins by 10. Regardless of who starts at QB for Bama

I am not saying UCLA isn't a good team under Chip Kelly. But, so far out of the 6 games UCLA played only had one road game at Colorado.
Their win against Washington which seems to be not as strong as people thought they were. Washington's win they had against MSU wasn't that great of a win, MSU is 2-4. Washington loses to ASU.
Utah is missing their best TE playmaker due to injury. Coach KW key offensive prowess is contingent on a two set TE. Again this injury hurts them. Utah also lost key defensive players they had from last year's team.
That win against S. Alabama at home for UCLA was ugly. I feel UCLA has not really been tested, not like Oregon. Oregon's offense is clicking on all cylinders. Oregon's defense is improving each and every game. They have been battle tested on the road and they are getting stronger. We get UCLA at a sell out raucous crowd in Autzen.
This year's stats so far for Bo Nix behind one of the best front lines in the country with the best record in preventive sacks to the QB:
70.4% Comp/1,524 Yards/8.2 YPA/12 TDs/3 INTs (2 of those INTs was against Georgia in the 1st game)
40 Carries/331 Yards/8.3 YPC/8 TDs
I do like our chances at home.
Who have we beaten? BYU can’t win a game, WSU has zero defense, and Arizona is one of the worst teams in the PAC.
I hear what you are saying but UCLA just curb stomped Utah for 3 quarters then hit cruise control.
We haven’t beaten A legit top 30 team yet.
I am seriously worried about this one.

I noticed many consider UCLA to have the best QB and running back in the conference.
I believe the two best QB’s and RB’s will be on the field in Eugene a week from now.
Oregon will have its O-line tested this game.
UCLA will have to deal with crowd noise, and Oregon team speed. UCLA has not been tested on the road, nor seen the speed we have.
Oregon has the talent. UCLA has experience. Their QB is in his 12th season at UCLA.
This one is going to be fun. It will say much more about Lanning, and his staff, than the Georgia game did.

But….It is UCLA that is easily the best California team. USC is rated so highly because Norte Dame needs a big win to get to a big six late in season. IMO
UCLA is the best team outside of Georgia we will face this season. Just as fast as us but with much more experience.
I want USC to win but I think Utah spanks them, proving that UCLA is the southern team to beat.

As much as I hate to admit it, the conference will never be the same without the LA schools, both economically (media market) and in terms of tradition. USC (football) and UCLA (basketball) are the only true conference bluebloods. While the collapse of the Pac-12 would sadden me, my loyalties are to Oregon first, so the question to me is what's best for the Ducks? There's no doubt in my mind that we can be nationally competitive in a newly restructured Pac-? within a newly expanded CFP. That said, how do we stay close enough in the massive money grab to avoid fading into obscurity?
Let's face it, the Pac-12 is not in a postion of strength. Our expansion options are limited and ultimately controlled by the ivory tower academics. Are we destined to become a boutique academic and olympic sport conference?
As for the B1G, I think eventually the invite comes. My heart says stay but me head says go.
I would go too because I think the PAC may fold

The biggest problem with being in the B1G is that the state with the abundance of high school talent is Ohio and Ohio State "owns" it recruiting-wise. That being the case, they will continue to dominate the B1G. A 12-team playoff field means that Oregon in the PAC-whatever will reach the playoffs more often but...3 out of every 4 seasons seems to be excessive to me.
Who’s going to compete with Oregon? Washington? If we keep getting ten times more talent, then we should dominate the pac

My concern is about the Big 12. I think it will be easier for them to poach Utah, Colorado, and both Arizona schools, then for us to get a few of them.
Those four Pac schools are geographically suitable for Big 12.
I keep waiting to hear that talk.

Hi Debbie. I like adding San Diego State and what if we tried poaching some of the Big 12 schools that make sense from a media standpoint in Texas.
Can the PAC change their stance with BYU? Also, there is talk of a "loose alliance" with the ACC. Is that still a possibility because I think that
could improve money for both conferences.
It just seems like the PAC-12 sits back and watches everyone else do their thing first and we play catch-up. I just don't know if a conference of 10 members
is easily going to survive in the long run. I'd like to see some creativity from the Pac-12 to improve this situation.
Texas is extremely rich in dollars and tradition. That would be a fish worth poaching.

Welcome, Byron. I enjoyed reading your article and look for more from you. Every time I read about adding new conference members, I find George K saying a new media deal needs to get done first. I don't understand why that is the case. Wouldn't it make more sense to add members, then negotiate? It seems to me your value would be higher with the right members added.
Who would we add to make a media company find us more valuable?

Wouldn't U$C making the championship game make recruiting the LA area more difficult for Oregon? Lincoln Riley would sell they accomplished a top two finish in his first year and they "only need a couple more players" etc.
U$C will always be a bigger threat to OBD than Utah. I look at the long term rather than a single year.
Agreed but we lose do much after this season.
I feel like next year is a major rebuild. -
U$C needs to win this. If so we will have three teams ranked in top 10 or 11 by next Monday. And Florida beat them already.
USC needs to win to keep Oregon in the playoff hunt.
I want to see us in playoffs more than I hate USC.

I believe 2 teams from both the SEC and BIG will be in playoffs. Then the PAC-12 champs, Big 12 champs, ACC champs, and 1 at large
Oregon would be in playoffs 3 out of ever 4 seasons if we stay put.
If there is a PAC 12 in the future- 1

After that 60 yard catch, yeah, a simple bow down and he was done.
I really liked the thumb's-up gesture Troy Franklin gave to Bo (I assume) immediately after rising from that 1st down catch over the middle. It was the opposite (imo) of a gesture of self-congratulation. It was like he was signaling to Nix "nice throw! We're moving the chains".
Ok good point. I just think we may be in a for a dog fight against Chips boys, and I do not want to lose because of a dumb penalty

I am too, debbie, very surprised at this. Although I have to say it seems to have greatly subsided in the last game. I hope it remains subdued when they're back in Autzen.
Ok well that’s true. I just don’t want to lose by 3 because we got a dumb emotionally based penalty.

"If he's not unleashed"? Do you think he's been operating on one to this point?
Yes I do. He has the personality of a Brett Favre, or a Johnny Manziel.
Lanning has done well to get him to play under his scheme. I like that as do most.
But it is NOT who he is. He is a gun slinger at heart.
Alabama and Georgia like their QB’s to be 150 to 200 yard per game, musts he free, field generals.
They have the luxury of monster middle linebackers, and shutdown corners!
Not to mention 400 pound running backs that run 4.4 40’s.
We don’t have that at this very moment. So I think Bo needs 350 plus through the air, and close to 100 on the ground against UCLA.
I have been saying watch out for UCLA in here for over a month. Very experienced position players, and they absolutely man handled Utah’s line.
So yes I think Bo has been leashed like a typical SEC QB, who isn’t coached by leach.
Im not sure that will result in a win in two weeks. We have the speed in our receivers. Bo has the arm he’s just a half second to slow to throw it for our receivers to run under it.
UCLA does not have Kirby Smart coached 5 star defensive backs. Attack!!!
Now be nice in your rebuttals. As you always are

What surprises you so far, or what are your surprises? I'm interested to see what others share as there are lots of great opinions on this board.
Is it an underachieving position group or player?
Is it player or position group that is over preforming your expectations?
Is it a coach?
The team as a whole or an area of the team that has shown improvement?
I'm going to steal from a discussion I had with Charles after the Georgia game?
I’m happy with Bo. Although if he’s not unleashed against UCLA we may lose.
I think our Inside linebacker play has taken a step back.
I am also surprised at the taunting I see under coach Lanning, that Kirby Smart would never allow.

The Nightmare scenario for the committee I have been looking at is Tennessee beating Bama, but losing to Georgia. Georgia making the SEC Championship undefeated, and Bama winning the West and beating Georgia in the SEC title game, plus Ole Miss only having lost to Bama.
We could see:Four 1 Loss SEC teams
Three 1 Loss B1G teams
Two 1 Loss Big12 teams
Two 1 Loss PAC12 teams
Two 1 Loss ACC teams
Good Lordy! I guess that is possible. Do you think an undefeated PAC 12 team jumps a 1 loss Bama?

Even with that scenario SC will still need to win the Pac-12 Championship game, meaning a 2nd win (possibly) against one of those three teams or maybe another. The Pac championship is also on the road (Las Vegas) for both teams.
No I’m saying UCLA is going to best usc.

You are forgetting UCLA. They have already curb stomped Washington and Utah.
They play us Saturday, and USC at home.
The rest of their schedule is easy street.
We may not have a chance, due to the Georgia game, but USC and especially UCLA are very much alive in the playoff race
