We do not have a report on the Michigan State NT, Harmon, but the visit did go well. The coaches are treading carefully at WR, as they do not have answers from Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden about returning next year. A transfer could possibly drive one or both off, so that position might not be resolved until after the bowl season. There is smoke about another big DT who knows Oregon well, that might be playing his bowl game, and then going into the portal before the January 2nd cutoff for entering the portal. (They can sign after that date as long as they have already gone into the portal by the Jan. 2nd date) In fact, a whole new group of portal prospects will become available after bowl season, so know that the transfer recruiting season will stretch out a bit. Texas A&M DL Walter Nolen Intel: The top overall player in the transfer portal, Walter Nolen spent this past weekend at Ole Miss. With two years of eligibility remaining and the ability to play immediately, the Rebels are viewed as the team to beat for the 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive lineman. A Mississippi native, Nolen spent his junior year of high school in Memphis before playing in Knoxville as a senior. Playing at Ole Miss would mean being closer to family, too. Would be a big pickup for Lane Kiffin and Pete Golding, edging out Oregon. UCLA QB Dante Moore Intel: The UCLA transfer was on the West Coast this weekend, making his official visit to Oregon. While Michigan has been in the mix, the Ducks appear to be the team to beat. With college football now in the dead period until January, it’s significant that he took his only visit to Eugene. Oregon offers everything he’s looking for – an opportunity to develop and learn and play on the national stage. The familiarity with Dan Lanning and the staff makes a difference, too. A source said the trip went “very well.” Oklahoma OL Cayden Green Intel: The Oklahoma offensive tackle is viewed as one of the top available players at his position in the portal. He spent this weekend making visits to Oregon and Mizzou. The Ducks and Tigers are the two clear-cut favorites, multiple sources tell On3. Both visits went well and we should have more clarity on which way Green is leaning in the days ahead. Kansas State S Kobe Savage Intel: Kobe Savage headed to the West Coast this past weekend, visiting Washington and Oregon. The Ducks have this one wrapped up, though. He is a hard hitting safety, who makes plays in open space, and has good ball skills. Oregon’s safeties have been mediocre in pass coverage the past few years. I didn’t get a good sense for Kobe’s coverage abilities in the below highlight video but he looks plenty fast and athletic to be a good coverage safety. Some sites are saying Nolen is a heavy Ole Miss lean because of CTH. EDIT- some sights are saying Savage to Oregon is a 'done deal' and he is just waiting to formally announce. I believe that he would be a "plug and play" in Athens, and Georgia has put five first-round defensive linemen in the NFL in the past three years. Prized defensive end Walter Nolen, who has spent the last two seasons at Texas A&M, tells On3 that he has widdled down his choices to Oregon and Ole Miss for the school he plans to play for next. For the past two years, Nolen has been one of the top defensive ends in the SEC and the country and when he announced he would be entering the transfer portal, schools basically lined up for his services. After landing the commitment from one of the best safeties in the Big 12 Conference this past season, the Ducks have taken a big step in that direction. Kansas State senior safety Kobe Savage has announced he will transfer to Oregon for his final year of college football. Savage was on campus this weekend for an official visit after entering the transfer portal earlier this month. At Oregon, Savage will have one final year of eligibility to use. He is expected to compete for the starting spot vacated by Evan Williams following the Fiesta Bowl. Savage is considered to be a safety similar to Evan Williams in that he's really good against stopping the run, a ball-hawk safety who's not afraid to hit a receiver, comes across the middle and has the size and the strength to cover bigger tight ends. Pennsylvania Duck Moderator No. 19 Share Posted December 27, 2023 Michigan State DL Derrick Harmon removes name from transfer portal The Oregon Ducks missed out on a top defensive tackle prospect this week, with former Michigan State DL Derrick Harmon announcing that he would be removing his name from the transfer portal and returning to East Lansing. Harmon was one of the top transfer targets for the Ducks, especially after former Texas A&M DL Walter Nolen announced his transfer to Ole Miss last week. In three years at Michigan State, Harmon played in 25 games and totaled 71 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. Harmon will now rejoin the Spartans under a new coaching staff, with former Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith at the helm. This is a big time win for Smith early on in his tenure. Going forward, we can expect the Ducks to stay aggressive at the DL position in the portal, but they may decide to wait until the spring window to make further additions... Is anyone surprised? Earlier this month, former Texas A&M wide receiver Evan Stewart announced that he would be leaving the Aggies and entering the portal, looking for a new team. Since then, teams from around the nation have been working to jockey for position and recuit the former 5-star athlete who has had a solid career down in College Station. At the moment, Stewart is rated as the No. 1 available player in the transfer portal. He is the second overall rated player, behind former teammate Walter Nolen, who announced his transfer to Ole Miss last week. Standing at 6-foot-0, 175 pounds, Stewart was rated as the No. 6 overall player in the 2021 class, and the No. 1 WR in the nation. According to 247sports’ own Matt Zenitz, former Texas A&M Aggie wideout Evan Stewart is set to take a visit to Eugene this weekend. Convincing Stewart to come to Oregon would be huge news for Dan Lanning and the Ducks. He was once the No. 1 receiving prospect when he was in high school before signing with the Aggies as a part of their No. 1 class back in 2021. In his first two seasons, Stewart hasn’t disappointed, but his stats dropped a bit in his sophomore year. Stewart wasn’t the only player in College Station to have a down year in 2023, however. The six-foot, 170-pounder has a total of 91 catches for 1,163 yards and six touchdowns. In 2023, he just had 38 catches for 514 yards and four scores in eight games. If Stewart did come to Oregon, he would fit right in with the likes of Tez Johnson, Traeson Holden, Gary Bryant, Jr., Jurrion Dickey and more weapons for new quarterback Dillon Gabriel to choose from. Pennsylvania Duck Moderator No. 24 Share Posted January 4 Updated transfer portal needs for Oregon as Ducks continue to build out 2024 roster The transfer portal has been bountiful for the Oregon Ducks in 2024 so far, with Dan Lanning and his team adding some elite playmakers at key positions across the roster over the last few weeks since the portal opened in early December. From Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore, to Kobe Savage and Jay Harris, the Ducks have added some potential massive difference-makers to the roster, but they will continue to look to improve their personnel over the next couple of weeks and months, with more players entering the portal every day. There have also been a few people who have left Eugene via the portal, such as S Cole Martin, RB Dante Dowdell, and QB Ty Thompson, which have led to potential positions of need that will be addressed. Now that we’ve gotten a moment to breath after the bowl game, it felt like a good time to update the areas on the roster where the Ducks may continue to add players this offseason... Ole Miss sophomore running back Quinshon Judkins, who's coming off his second-consecutive stellar season with the Rebels, is planning to enter the transfer portal would instantly become one of this cycle's highest-rated players. Judkins rises to the top of the priority list for several schools to watch in search of a difference-making RB1 in 2024, including a few early College Football Playoff frontrunners. Judkins rushed for 106 yards and caught a touchdown during the Rebels' 38-25 win over Penn State in the Peach Bowl and finished with 1,158 yards this fall, a year after gashing SEC defenses for 1,567 yards and 16 scores as a true freshman. Programs with expansive NIL arms will be in the mix for Judkins, who stars at a premium position. Judkins did not speak on his future plans for 2024 prior to the Peach Bowl last week and instead kept his focus on finishing what he started with the Rebels during a historic campaign. Given the hype surrounding the Rebels and what they have returning from an 11-win team, this move is a bit surprising.
