The former Western Kentucky running back confirmed on social media Friday afternoon that he will return for a third year with the Ducks in 2024. Whittington was a fixture in the backfield in 2022, but an injury suffered early in the 2023 campaign sidelined him for the remainder of the season. With Bucky Irving heading to the NFL Draft, Whittington figures to have a featured role within the offense next fall. I'll be honest... Whittington isn't going to be a featured back at Oregon. Bucky didn't even get featured back carries this season. And James is going to be hard to deny carries and Harris is a big boddied bruiser. Give him some designed runs up the middle and pitches to the outside but shift him all over the field to create match up issues for the defense. We should also consider using him as the kickoff and punt returner as that could increase his draft stock.
